DALEY'S WEEKLY COMMENTS
Things are hoppin'
After nearly three years of
negotiation and engineering
studies, the village of Lucan has
received provincial approval to
proceed immediately with a
major reconstruction of its main
street costing $564,000.
Reeve Ivan Hearn received
telegrams of approval Tuesday
morning from the Ontario
Municipal Board and the
department of transportation and
communications,
The contract has already been
awarded to Haggarty-Campbell
Construction Ltd., of Ingersoll,
removed. However, many are
elm trees and they are already
visibly dying.
The village is still waiting for
provincial approval for another
major project. This involved a
$254,000 sanitary sewage
program that will complete the
project started last year in the
built up area,
When the project is approved
and completed, it will allow the
construction of 40 homes in a new
subdivision at the end of Albert
Street, The subdivision has been
ready for two years but con-
struction has been forbidden until
sewage lines were completed.
comrades who spent a couple of
hours once a month at the general
meeting. 'How about having an
affair' with the Legion, that is, a
couple of hours on October 13,
should do the trick.
The work has already begun.
Highway 4 reconstruction from
both the village's northern and
southern boundaries has been
completed for about a year but
the section through the village
itself remains narrow and rough.
The work will change the
physical layout of the village's
Main Street. It includes curbs
and gutters, sanitary and storm
sewers, new sidewalks, street
lights, and watermains.
The province is paying for
everything except local service,
which the province will pay a
share of.
Reeve Hearn said plans call for
underground work and a tem-
porary base on the street to be
completed by about mid-
December. He said the
remainder will be completed in
the spring.
Since the reconstruction in-
volves widening to points beyond
the present sidewalks in many
cases, 165 mature trees must be
