The history of the Canada Company was given by Ernest Pym and Mrs, Pyrn gave the history of the village of Rodgerville. The roll call was answered by "An old-fashioned custom I hate to discard." The motto "There are two kinds of people; one says this is old, therefore it is good; the other says this is new, therefore it is better" was discussed by Mrs. William Dougall. Mrs. Rundle showed a display of buttons, old laces and combs. A quartet including Cynthia Gunn, Brenda Cooper, Valerie Sweet and Heather Mills ac- companied on the piano by Denise Wyatt sang several numbers. President Mrs. Garnet Hicks conducted the business when Mrs. A. Rundle, Mrs, Roylance Westcott, Mrs. Ray Cann, Mrs. Harold Patterson and Mrs. Resort hosts syrup producers Toronto, and Mr, & Mrs. Clarke Kennedy spent a few days last week touring in the north, The trees turning color were something to behold. Mr. David Garrett, United States Govern- ment representative of Mr. & Mrs. Norman Brock, town, spent a week touring through Ottawa, Montreal, Vermont State, New York and Niagara Falls. Miss Lois McDurmid, Niagara Falls spent the weekend with Mrs. Valeria Armstrong. Mr. & Mrs. Robert Hill, Pittsburg, Pa., are spending this week with her. Mr. & Mrs. Edgar Squire were entertained Sunday by their family, Mr, & Mrs. Cecil Squire of Whalen, Mrs. Gladys Chittick and Mr. & Mrs. Richard Lamont, London to a dinner at the Dominion Hotel, Zurich, on the occasion of their 54th wedding anniversary. Later the family spent the evening with their parents at their home, Main St. Hedley May were named delegates to the London Area W.I. convention held in Clinton Thursday and Friday, September 30 and October 1. Mrs. Hicks, Mrs. Charles Snell and Mrs. Lloyd Ballantyne at- tended the County Fall Rally held in Ethel, Monday October 4. Mrs. William Dougall and Mrs. Lloyd Ballantyme will attend the course, Sewing With Knits. Hostesses were Mrs. Ray Cann, Mrs, Harry Dougall, Mrs. Charles Kernick, Mrs. Ethel Selves, Mrs. Reba Clark and Mrs. Harry Strang. PERSONALS The Fireman's Ball held last Friday evening in Ye Olde Theatre was a real success. Mr, & Mrs. Horace Lake are visiting friends this week in Belleville. Rev, S, McFalls has sold his cottage on Warwick St, to Mr. Fawley of London. Mr. McFalls and sister will be moving to Egm ondville. Mrs. Arthur Webb, Mrs. Ed. Gill, Mrs. Don Hendrick, Mrs. Susie Devine, Mrs. Olive Miller and Mrs. Craig attended the London Area Women's Institute 57th convention held in Clinton last Thursday. Mr. & Mrs. Stewart Barbour, Burlington, Vermont was a guest. The banquet was served at Dashwood Community Centre Friday evening. A maple syrup menu was the main feature. The Hon. W. A. Stewart, minister of agriculture and food, was the guest speaker. He said that_ the maple syrup industry is im- portant to Ontario and is being assisted and encouraged by government to further development. Saturday morning breakfast was served at the Village Inn followed by a tour of a sugar bush. Mr. Humphreys of Ontario Food Council organized the weekend get to-gether. 4-H The 4-H girls met in the town hall last Monday evening for the second meeting. The girls picked their exhibit for Achievement Day, a "Dairy By MRS. STAN PRESZCATOR Mr, & Mrs. Leonard Wein spent a few days last week with Mr. & Mrs. Jim Edwards of Walkerton. David Glanville of Parkhill spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. & Mrs, Stan Preszcator. Barbara Preszcator and Debbie Glanville spent Saturday with Mrs. Milford Prouty of RR 1, Exeter. Their Sunday school class had a get-together.
