Bertha MacGregor, Phone 262-2025 Church organizations meet Parkhill lodge to install slate Mrs. Myrtle Taylor, Noble Grand, presided at the regular meeting of Amber Rebekah Lodge, Wednesday evening, assisted by the Vice Grand Mrs. Elizabeth Riley. Mrs. Aldeen Volland reported for the CPT Fund and Mrs. Riley reported the visiting, District Deputy President Mrs. Ruby Bell asnnounced she had invited Parkhill Lodge to install the officers of Amber Rebekah Lodge, which will take place October 6. The members of Edelweiss Rebekah Lodge, Seaforth are to be guests and arrangements were made for entertainment. Bell will be delegates to the rally in, Ethel, in October. Mrs, J. Drummond commented on the motto, "If you look back too much you soon will be headed that way," and Mrs. P. Triebner gave the history of the Brucefield Church. Mrs. H, Caldwell discussed the origin of antiques. On display The historical research and current events meeting was held at Burnbrae Farm with Mrs. H. Caldwell hostess and. Mrs. A. McGregor co-hostess, Roll call was answered by, Did you know? a current event. There was a moment silence in memory of a very valued member, the late Mrs. Wm. Kyle. Reports were given by the various committee heads, Mrs. H. Caldwell was ap: 26 at 7:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Rev. Harold Jenkins, B.A. of the parishes of Gorrie and Fordwich. McAllister, Ida Ann Blackwell, Steven Corbett and Mary Black- well. UNITED CHURCH Special Christian education service was held in Hensall United Church Sunday morning. For his subject Rev. Donald R. Beck based his thoughts from the message, "A New Generation". Thanks was expressed to Mrs, Ian McAllister who as chairman of the congregational Work and Life committee occupied the pulpit to read the lessons and explain the church's program for the coming season. Thanks also was expressed to the Zurich Girls' choir, who, under the direction of Miss Meda Surerus snd Mrs. Beatrice Hess, who provided special music. Flowers in thesanctuarywere in memory of Mrs. William Kyle and Robert Baker Sr. from their families. U.C.W. The general meeting of the U.C.W. of Hensall United Church was held in the Christian Education Building Monday. Mrs. James McAllister chaired the meeting and conducted the devotional, "Love God for No Reason at All", Prayer was given by Mrs. McAllister, Mrs. George Armstrong and Mrs. T. Sherritt. Mary Goodwin and Mrs. Carl Passmore sang a duet ac- companied by Mrs. Wm. Fuss. The Speaker for the evening was Rev. D. Beck who spoke on The Order of Service for Worship. For the business porton of the meeting Mrs. Rowe, president of the U.C.W, took charge. The treasurer, Mrs. W. Spencer, reported balances of $913.78 and. 585.43 in the accounts. Reports were given by Mrs. Lorne Hay for Friendship and Visitation; Mrs. Mark Drysdale for Flowers Committee, and Mrs. Russell Erratt for Supply and Welfare. The U.C.W. agreed to conduct a church service in the latter part of October. SUNDAY SCHOOL The Hensall United Church Sunday School started a new term with a new time set at 11:20 a.m. Mrs. Ian McAllister, chairman of the Christian Education Committee was on hand to hand out the diplomas and pins to the deserving children who had well earned them. Those receiving gold pins and diplomas for perfect attendance were: Brenda Pepper, Marilyn Pepper, Laurie Pepper. Those receiving silver pins for the most Sunday's present in their particular class were: Chris Reaburn, George Blackwell, Jo- Anne Pepper, Julie Mock, Karen Mr. & Mrs. Samual Oesch of Hensall celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary September 1. great gandchildren. The couple were honored at a dinner given by the family at Dashwood Community Centre which was followed with a social evening with music by the Country Ramblers, _ Friends and relatives attended from Detroit and Mount Clemens, U.S.A., Sarnia and surrounding areas. They received many gifts, cards, and congratulations including those from Prime Minister Trudeau, Hon. Charles MacNaughton, Premier William Davis, Hon, Robert Stanfield, and R.E. McKinley M,P, for Huron, Samual Oesch and the former Mary Bedour, Zurich, were married in London by Rev. Morris at the United Church _ Manse in September, 1921. They farmed in Stanley Township until retiring in Hensall in 1958. Their only son Russel resides on the Homestead farm. They also have three daughters Mrs. Bob (Kathleen) Bell, Clinton; Mrs. Earl (Anne) Flaxbard, Zurich; Mrs. Ray (Mae) McNall , Fergus; 24 grandchildren and four Bazaar planned for Huronview The September meeting of Huronview Home Auxiliary was Monday afternoon with a good attendance, President Mrs. W. Colclough presided and gave a vivid report of the 52nd annual convention of the Homes for the Aged which she attended in Windsor. She said the local auxiliary will have to change our ways if it is to keep up with other auxiliaries. Breaking theGap was the theme of the Convention. Mrs. Mattie McGregor, craft supervisor, reported a very busy month, and a request went out that ladies come to quilt any day they are able. The fall bazaar will be held November 10th 2 o'clock and there will also be a bake sale. Delightful readings were given by Mr-EGo‘ver of Elimville, and the Elimville ladies served tea. Hensall ladies put on a program numbet at the October meeting. Friencli fete bride-elect Susan Jinks of London, for- merly of Ilensall, bride-elect of this month, was honored at a miscellaneous shower for which Mrs. Fred Peters was hostess, September 15, attended by twenty-five friends and relatives. The home decorations were in pink and white motif. The presentation address was read by Mrs. Edgar McClinchey, and the lovely gifts presented by Gail Jinks, London, and Miss Mason, Dashwood. Dainty refreshments were served. Arranging the shower were Mrs. Edgar McClinchey, and Mrs. Cecil Cooper. The president, Mrs. W, Scrabuik, opened the meeting with the members prayer followed by devotions. Mrs. Mary Taylor read the Scripture Lesson. October 30, was the date set for bazaar and bake sale with Mrs. A. Reid and Mrs. F. Forrest as conveners. Mrs. F. Forrest read a paper on Brand Names Parade and roll call was answered by household hints. Next meeting, roll call will be a verse from the Bible having the name of a king. Mrs. A.Reid took the topic, "Learn to Say No", stating many times we must say no in training our children also in social life one must sometimes give a positive "no" if we are becoming too involved. Harvest Thanksgiving Service at St. Paul's Church is September Carmel church hosts and London synodical. Mrs. R. A. Orr's report of three days of April in Sarnia of the Hamilton-London synodical was read by Mrs. Enright. Mrs. Kerslake of Seaforth introduced the guest speaker, Miss Hazel Macdonald of Goderich, who spent three years in Africa under the Africa inland mission, and who also did educational work in the secon- dary government boarding school in Aldama, Eldoret and Nirobi, Kenya. Mrs. Orr accepted the Glad Tidings secretary office for the B remainder of 1971. Mrs. Ed Munn and Mrs. Mac Dougall gave a piano duet. They are: president, Cathy Cook; vice-president, Brian Beck; secretary, Pam Mickle; treasurer, Joe Reaburn.
