elect 4-H officers

The first meeting of Staffa
H Homemaking Club on the
project "Featuring Fruit" was
held September 9 at the home of
the assistant leader, Mrs.
Charles Douglas. Sixteen
members and two leaders recited
the 4-H pledge to open the
meeting.
Mrs. Wallace, the club leader,
told of the requirements and
objectives of this club.
She then presided for the
election of officers. They are as
follows: president, Lorraine
Laing; vice-president, Gail
Harburn; secretary-treasurer,
Nancy Allen; press reporter,
Marilyn Laing; telephone girls,
Margaret Laing and Cheryl
Riley; back cover committee,
Debbie Wallace, Janet Kinsman,
Valerie McPhail, and Pam
Wallace, and Achievement Day
committee, Julie Anne Elliott,
Bonnie McPhail, Ronni Pullman
and Cheryl Riley.
Achievement Day is to be
November 27 and the club
demonstration is to be "Family
Meals with Two Fruits a Day".
The roll call was "Give your
name, and tell why you took this
project".
Mrs. Wallace discussed
working methods and Mrs.
Douglas, with the assistance of
Valeri McPhail and Cheryl Riley,
demonstrated measuring. Mrs.
Douglas demonstrated how to
frost glasses and how to make
Grape Sparkle.

family of the late Mrs. Robert
Dodds who passed away at
Clinton, Friday. Mrs. Dodds
resided in Cromarty until
overcome with failing health
about two years ago.
Mr. T. L. Scott spent several
days last week with friends near
Orville in the Parry Sound
district.
Mrs. J. R. Jefferson and Mrs.
T. L. Scott attended a meeting of
the Willing Workers group of
Listowel Presbyterian Church on
Tuesday evening where Mrs.
Scott was Presbyterial visitor.
Allergy expert
visits Stratford
The Huron-Perth Tuberculosis
and Respiratory Disease
Association plans to do Lung
Function Tests at the Stratford
Fair.
This was announced by Mrs.
Edith Fisher, Mitchell, education
chairman of the organization at a
recent meeting in Seaforth.
Routine reports were given by
Mrs. Fisher, Rev. Garbutt Smith,
Stratford, Mrs. David Schenck,
Seaforth, Tom Leiper, Lon-
desboro and Mr. Lloyd Dodgson,
Stratford. President Ivan For-
syth, Kippen, presided.
Mr. Smith said industries in the
area were being approached
systematically regarding lung
function testing of employees and
that four surveys already had
been completed.
Mrs. Fisher reported that the
two bursary recipients would be
addressing members in the near
future and that Mrs. Schenck and
Mrs. Edith Brothers, Stratford,
who attended the International
Union Against TB meeting in
Russia, would show slides and
give a travelogue to members.
Mrs. Schenck has eight
engagements to speak to area
groups but. Mrs. Brothers un-
fortunately, is hospitalized and
unable to participate for the time
being.
Mrs. Schenck said that Dr.
Norman Epstein, Director of
Allergies, St. Joseph's Hospital,
Toronto, will address a public
meeting on Friday, September
24, in Stratford.
She added that inhalation
therapy compressor pumps are
still in great demand and that
drugs had been provided these
and other respiratory disease
sufferers.
If parents consent, children
with asthma in the counties of
Huron and Perth are to be
researched at the University of
Guelph, which has received a.
grant from the Ontario Tuber-
culosis and Respiratory Disease
Association for the project.
