Highway No, 4 from London to Lucan was again the route of a stage coach and reminiscent of the \ olden days, the coach was ambushed by a large group of masked riders on horseback. Some of the plans of Lucan's Centennial committee headed by Reeve Ivan Hearn failed to go completely according to the script. ',Hearn along with, Biddulph ReeVe and Middlesex warden Wilson Hodgins and London Mayor Herb McClure left London City Hall at 1:30 Monday af- Bob McKinley kidnapped at gunpoint the coach and transferred, to a waiting wagon. A quick switch took place At this point and all of a sudden Agriculture Minister Stewart had broken away from his bonds and was hopping very nimbly aboard a horse and heading towards Lucan with the gangsters. Reaching. Lucan, the coach stopped at the Central Hotel, probably from habit. The four horse team pulling the stage coach was driven by owner Ralph Kent of Embro, Riding as a very ineffectual guard up front with rifle in hand was London Free Press reporter George Hutcheson. Mayor Herb McClure came prepared with a holster and six shooter strapped to his waist but like Hutcheson found he was greatly outnumbered by his masked adversaries, Ladies host bridal party KJ M CONSTRUCTION tiNAUCTKI for estimates on Farm Buildings and House Framing KEN MANN 234.6401 . CREDITON ternoon and planned on picking up London township reeve Graydon McRoberts, Huron MP Bob McKinley and Ontario's Agriculture Minister Bill Stewart along the way. The plan of officials went ac- cording to schedule until the coach arrived at Elginfield. At this point the plans of the first posse also changed quickly. The riders had intended on kidnapping Stewart and holding him for ransom. But, Stewart was late in arriving. Just as the ambushers were deciding on alternate methods, in drove Bob McKinley. Before the Huron MP could get away from the steering wheel his hands were in the air and he was escorted, probably not too gently to a waiting wagon and whisked west on Highway 7. A large crowd of spectators, hearing rumours of unusual happenings were ready for action at Elginfield and again at the Roman Line where the Wild West came alive. After a brief stretching of legs at Elginfield the coach headed for Lucan, At the Roman Line, they found McKinley coming across the sideroad, hands still uplifted. From behind the trees on the west side of the highway came seven masked riders with rifles raised. In quick succession, the dignitaries were routed from the coach, McKinley and Stewart were tied up and the strongbox of gold was lifted from the top of Save now- enjoy later Saving is the secret of how to make money work for you instead of you working for money. As for the children — they have been homesick and have had to worry over their future, but because they are together they have been able to brave and more easily solve their problems. The foster parents have found the experience totally rewarding.' Today the Family and Children's Services would dearly like homes in which it could place another family of six — five boys and one girl, and a family of four sisters. What makes it different is the people who live there, This is a foster home for children from the Family and Children's Services of London and Middlesex. And in it are housed the family with two children and seven foster children, six of whom are from the same family. Last year, the Family and Children's Services advertised for a home for these six children. It is always tragic to break up a family, but in this case it seemed more tragic than usual. For after a very distressing and painful period, the children had to be taken into care. The one thing they really had going for them was their interdependence. They did everything together and the elder ones looked after the younger and they were happy together. One of the families who replied were already caring for one child and after a great deal of serious thought it was mutually agreed to place the family together. It has been a happy year for everyone. Naturally, there have been problems. But these have not been as great as anticipated. There are more mouths to feed and More clothes to wash, but there are also more hands to help.
