Kin 17 • Custom 4 An 11-run rally in the top of the fifth inning allowed the Kinsmen to carry on to register a 17-4 win over Custom Trailers in an Exeter and district Bee softball game, Thursday night. Walks and errors aided the Kinsmen rally considerably. Craig Davidson slammed a home run and contributed a single to lead the Kinsmen batters in the one inning outburst. Also getting hits were Bob Lammie with a double and a single from the bat of Jack Glover. Each team scored a run in the first inning with Larry Bern's single sending the Kinsmen run across with Ray Mills notching the Custom run after getting on with a single. Custom went ahead tem- porarily in the second when Doug Dalrymple walked, Bill Brock singled and both scored on the second consecutive hit by Ray Mills. The final Custom score came in the third when Rick MacDonald walked and scored on Chuck Dalrymple's single. Successive singles by Fred Lankamp, Jack Glover and. George Pratt scored the fourth Kinsmen run in the fourth, The final runs for the winners were chalked up by Walt Tiedeman and Bob Callingham in the Kinsmen seventh without the aid of a base hit. • • • t wins ney The stay of the Dashwood Tigers in first place in the Huron- Perth baseball league was short lived, The Tigers dropped a close 10-9 decision to Thorndale on the Dashwood diamond, Friday night and were blanked 18-0 by the Mitchell BP's in Mitchell, Sunday night. In the Mitchell contest, all the scoring took place in the fourth inning as the BP's more than batted around the order twice and scored a total of 18 runs. In the disastrous fourth, the Tigers used a trio of pitchers. Lefty Dave Ratz started, veteran Dick Bedard came to the rescue Jim. Johnston gained the pitching win for the Kinsmen while Ray Mills and Bryan Hogg shared hurling duties for. the losers. Kin 17 - Dufferin 8 Home runs were the order of the night as the Kinsmen swamped the Dufferin Hotel 17-8 in a Monday night contest. Craig Davidson was the top hitter with a pair of round trip- pers. Davidson cracked a bases loaded smash in the fifth and repeated in the next inning with one mate aboard. Also homering for the winners were Jim Johnston and Jack Glover, The lone home run for the Dufferin came from the bat of Bob Nadon in the first inning with the bases empty. Legion 19 - Hawks I Seven runs in the first inning was more than enough to send the Legion on the way to an easy 19-1 victory over the junior Hawks, Thursday night. Consecutive singles by Jerry Finnen, Cy Blom'maert, Ron Bogart, Jim Pfaff, Jim Hewitt, Earl Wagner and Hugh Mon- tgomery were the main blows during the opening Legion rally. Ron Bogart singled and scored a lone run for the Legion in the second. In the fourth, Bogart's home run and singles from the bats of Finnen, Blommaert, Pfaff, Hewitt and Wagner were responsible for the scoring of eight more Legion counters. Wagner, Montgomery and pitcher Don Pickering came home with the final three runs for the winners in the fifth, The lone Hawk score came in the sixth when Scott Burton blasted a one-out home run. Don Pickering the winning pitcher gave up only five hits to the Hawk batters. In addition to Burton's homer, Bill Bourne collected a pair of singles and Barry Baynham and Pete Lawson each notched a single. Members of the Exeter lawn bowling club enjoyed con- siderable success in several district tournaments held during the past week. Sunday at Clinton, Alvin and Lillian Pym and Harold Simpson were winners of a mixed trebles tourney. The combination of Wilf Shapton and Howard Ince placed fourth in a men's pairs event at St. Marys, Saturday. Thursday night, the Mitchell bowling club paid a return visit to Exeter and the top winner in the combined jitney was Glen McKnight of the Exeter club. In the regular local jitney held Saturday night, a first year bowler, Tom Yellow was the top competitor with two wins, a plus of 14 and aggregate of 30. Anna Ballantyne was second with a plus of 10 and aggregate of 22 to go with a double victory. Ray Smith was third and Russ Snell placed fourth. and before the inning was over Bill Schade was called on to put out the fire. Schade stayed on the mound and finished the game with a good performance in his first pitching effort of the year. Leading the Mitchell batters with three hits apiece were Don Vi pond and veteran Laverne "Porky" Wallace. Lanky Bob Parkinson went the pitching distance for. Mitchell allowing the Dashwood club but five hits. Bill Schade came up with two singles to head up the meagre Tiger hitting total, Contributing a double was Jim Hayter while Whitey Denomme and Bud Desjardine checked in with singles. In the 10-9 loss to Thorndale, the Dashwood club came close to pulling out a win with another of their patented come-from-behind finishes, The Tigers scored four times in the bottom of the ninth and had the bases jammed when the game ended. After six innings Thorndale was out in front 8-1 before the Tigers started to roll. The first Dashwood run came Jil the second when Whitey Denomme doubled and scored on an infield out. In the seventh, three Tiger runs came across the plate. Singles by Bob Webb, John Hayter and Pete Ravelle provided the power. The first four Tiger batters in the ninth were able to complete the base cycle and their faithful fans were up and cheering for another last minute victory. Pete Ravelle singled, Bob Hoffman was on by an error, Whitey Denomme singled and Bill Schade doubled to score two Michele Robinson is spending this week at Bimini Camp. Mr, & Mrs. Cedric Wheeler and Mrs. Alex Walker and Ian of Brownsburg, Quebec spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. George Wheeler.
