Our Comrade
Percy 'Bud' Richardson
1919-1971
We Will Remember 1-lim
The Comrades of Branch 540
were saddened indeed with the
passing of Comrade 'Bud'
Richardson. Comrade Bud was
an active member of the Legion,
showing his interest by regularly
attending branch meetings, until
ill health prevented it. His ready
smile arid devotion to the Legion
will be sorely missed. Our
heartfelt sympathy go to his life
companion Ileane and to his
family,
Most people like attending
birthday parties, therefore you
are all invited to Lucan's 100th
birthday party, which will be
celebrated for a whole week
August 23 to 29. By the way,
maybe you have some friends
who would like a good excuse to
pay a visit, why not write and
invite them and at the same time
tell them of our centennial
celebrations, you will be happy
you did.
Your centennial committee
have been working long and hard
to make this the best birthday
party ever, the final result will
surprise even you. We know you
will stand tall and proud to call
yourself a Lucanite when our
visitors and guests enquire 'How
in the world can a village the size
of Lucan promote such a Cen-
tennial Celebration?'
It's not been easy folks, your
town fathers had the vision to
'draft' versatile and imaginative
Lucanites from the various clubs,
organizations, church groups and
etc. to work on Committee, the
end result must be a celebration
befitting a 100th birthday,
Watch,f or the posters soon to be
posted. We anticipate a 3 to 4 hour
parade as a starter, floats,
clowns, stage coach, steam
engines, brass bands, pipe bands,
color parties and veterans on
parade, you name it it will be
there. Plan now to enter the spirit
of Centennial, prepare now to
wear the garb of the era the
entire week, Sounds like fun.
Think Centennial. Let all
Lucanites get together and make
this the greatest Birthday party
of the Century.
Comrades don't forget
Saturday, July 10 is the date we
host the Royal Canadian Legion
Zone A 5 horseshoe tournament,
our friends of Labatt's will co-
host the event, Branch 540 is the
defending champ,
It is a known fact there are
other branches in Zone A 5 that
have been practicing with a
vengeance and vow they will take
the championship away with
them. Our Lucan Legion parking
lot will be transferred into a
horseshoe pitch for the tour-
nament.
Remember Branch 540 is
where you will find the action.
Come on over and enjoy a day of
sports, relaxation and
comradeship. See you there!!
And that's 30 for this week —

the man who uses common sense

The best protective
equipment you can ever
own is already yours
—one pair of eyes. Just
knowing what's going
on around you helps
you avoid job accidents.
So it makes good
sense to look after your
eyes—so they'll look
after you. It's a good
habit to protect
your eyes, if your job
makes it neccessary.
And if your eyesight's
not up to par —have
your eyes checked.
You need them.
Take care of your
eyes, and they'll see
you safely through
the working day.
