July 1, Joan, Marlene and
Gwen Hodgins held a kitchen
shower for Linda Kennedy,
4 Ilderton, bride-to-be of July,
Relatives and friends were
present and after readings,
contests and games Linda was
presented with many lovely
kitchen gifts. Refreshments were
served by Mrs. Percy Hodgins
and her sister Mrs. Alex Dobson,
Weston.
Previous to this at a family
gathering a miscellaneous
shower was also held for Linda by
aunts of the groom-to-be, Mrs.
Andrew Standeaven, Mrs,
Stanley Crawford and Mrs.
• Gordon Mitchell, at which the
bride-elect received many useful
and attractive gifts.

held in Seaforth Lion's Park, July
4.

supper.
A report was given by Mrs.
Keith Lovell, UCW represen-
tative to the Queensway Nursing
Home. Sunday school picnic was
discussed but no date set.
An invitation was accepted to
attend UCW meeting at Varna
Sunday evening. Mrs. G. Moffat
played an organ solo,
Mrs. John Sinclair introduced
the speaker for the evening, Mr.
Bruce R. Heath, local director of
the Children's Aid Society of
Huron County. He 'showed slides
on the work of the Society and
said it is their job to protect, to
prevent and to help.
He said the usual number of
children in Children's Aid care is
around 100, but for the first time
in three years it is under 100. He
urged anyone interested in,foster
care of children to get in touch
with him at Goderich.
Mrs. Tom Reidread an address
and presented Mrs. E. D. Stuart
with a gift on behalf of Kippen
UCW to which Mrs. Stuart
responded. Her regular at-
tendance and willing help will be
missed.
Mrs. Wm. Consitt extended
courtesy remarks. A social hour
followed.
Robert Thomson, Kippen, his
two daughters and their
husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Dave
Moyer and Mr. and Mrs. Dick
Cornish, and his grandson, Bruce
Thomson, were feted at a recent
event when Mr, and Mrs.
Clarence Priestap entertained in
their honor at Mitchell Town
Hall.
Mr. Thomson was celebrating
his 94th birthday while Mr. and
Mrs. Moyer and Mr. and Mrs.
Cornish were celebrating their
30th wedding anniversaries and
Bruce Thomspon his 10th bir-
thday.
Among the 174 relatives and
friends attending were Mr. and
Mrs. Ted Foster who were also
celebrating their eighth wedding
anniversary.
A large birthday cake centred
the head table decorated with
flowers and candles.
A telegram was received from
Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau
and a plaque from Premier
William Davis, Other
congratulatory greetings were
sent by Queen Elizabeth,
Governor-General Roland
Michener, Robert E. McKinley,
MP, Gordon Aiken, MP, J. Waldo
Monteith, MP, Charles Mac-
Naughton, MPP, Leader of the
Federal Opposition, Robert
Stanfield, and from relatives who
were unable to attend.
Guests were entertained by a
program which included num-
bers from Audrey Vorstenbosch,
John, Mary, Beatrice and Bruce
Thomson, Darryl Vorstenbosch,
Vicki O'Rourke, Linda Miller,
Gwen O'Rourke, Patti O'Rourke,
Bill Chase, Cindy Cornish and
Joyce Foster.
After the greetings were read
and the gifts opened the guests
sat down to supper. They were
served by granddaughters of Mr.
Thomson: Mary Anne Stokes,
Glenda Cornish, Dorothy Chase,
Judy Schneider, Audrey Vor-
stenbosch and Adele Moyer.
The birthday and anniversary
cakes were cut by Mrs. Fred
Parsons and Mrs. Norman
Stanlake and was served by
Joanne Vorstenbosch and
Pamela Foster, great-
granddaughters and Gail
Schneider, granddaughter of Mr.
Thomson.

after a lengthy stay in Victoria
Hospital, London.
Ronald Edwards was admitted
to Stratford General Hospital,
Saturday evening following a car-
truck collision in Cromarty. Ted
Harburn was the driver of the
truck.
The Hibbert community young
people held a fun night at the
Family Life Center, Sunday
evening with indoor and outdoor
games enjoyed.
Craig Kerslake attended a four-
day seminar held at Guelph
University this past week.

The June meeting of Kippen
United Church Women was held
at the church and opened with the
worship in charge of Mrs. Bert
Faber: The theme was Love is
Kind, It dealt with Jesus teaching
to get rid of all bitterness and
anger, and to be kind arid
forgiving as God forgives.
