Local native WI members
dies in north host 4-H girls
Members of Lucan Women's
Institute invited members of the
4-H group, to a picnic in the Lions
Park, Tuesday. There were 32
present including 8 4-H members
and 7 of their mothers,
The girls gave a fashion show
of their dresses and jackets they
had made at a recent course.
After a pot luck picnic supper
the members of the WI held a
short meeting. After some
discussion it was decided to make
enquiries about a "Supper is
Served" program in the near
future.

present fairly the financial position of the Board as at
December 31, 1970 and the results of its operations
and the Source and Application of its Capital Funds
for the year then ended in accordance with
accounting principles generally accepted for Ontario
School Boards applied on a basis consistent with that

Hold discussion
about barbecue
The evening unit of the UCW of
Lucan United Church was held in
the C. E. building last Tuesday
with eight members in at-
tendance. The worship service
was conducted by Mrs. A, E.
Reilly and Mrs. Ed. Melanson.
An evaluation discussion was
led by the leader, Mrs. Frances
Saward on the chicken barbecue.
Arrangements were made for a
booth at the Chown auction.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
Reilly and Mrs. Melanson. Mrs.
Eldon Young and Mrs. H. B.
Langford will convene the next
meeting in September.

Hospital last Friday.

A family gathering was held to
celebrate the birthday of Mrs.
Eldon Hodgson at the family
farm on Concession 4
McGillivray, now the home of her
grandson, Wesley, last Sunday.
Mrs. Burns Smith has returned
Cora M. Short, wife of the late
Gordon Banting of Lucan, died at
Kagawong, Manitoulin Island,
June 24, 1971 in her 84th year,
She is survived by sons Carl G.
of Kagawong and Elmer T. of
Ottawa, and daughters Mrs.
Harold (Muriel) Cobleigh of
London Twp. and Mrs, William
(Verna) Killam of Newmarket, a
sister Mrs, Pearl Paton of
London, two brothers, Norman
and Roy Short of Cleveland, Ohio.
She is also survived by 12
grandchildren and one great-
grandchild.
The body rested at the Murdy
Funeral Home, Lucan, after
Saturday, where funeral service
was conducted by Rev. Susan
Sunshiners
enjoy trip
Members of the Sunshine Club
and some friends took an en-
joyable bus trip last Thursday.
They toured the Stratford-St,
Marys district, stopping at places
of h?terest on the way. One stop
was made at the Rothman Art
Gallery at Stratford which was
interesting, especially the show
of costumes of the
Shakespearean period.
Another stop was made at•the
Stratford Theatre and the senior
citizens enjoyed walking through
the grounds and by the river.
Supper was taken at the Pine
Crest 'Inn, and then home to
Lucan about 6 p.m.

The AYM met last Monday and
decided to meet three times in
July. July 7, they are holding a
swimming party at Morrison
Dam, July 11, they will attend the
8 a,m. Holy Communion and
breakfast afterward, and July 21
they are planning a hay ride.

We have examined the Revenue Fund and
Capital (Building) Fund Balance Sheets of The
Middlesex County Board of Education as at
December 31, 1970 and the Statements of Revenue
Fund Revenue, and Expenditure and Source and
Application of Capital Funds for the year then ended.
Our examination included a general review of the
accounting procedures and such tests of accounting
records and other supporting evidence as we
considered necessary in the circumstances.

Destroy
Noxious Weeds
Notice is hereby given to all persons in possession of
land in accordance with the weed control act 1960 -
Sections 3, 13, and 19 and amendments thereto that unless
noxious weeds growing on their lands within the village of
Lucan are destroyed by the date of July 15, 1971 and
throughout the season the municipality may enter upon the
said land and have the weeds destroyed charging the cost
against the land in taxes and set out in the act.
The cooperation of all citizens is earnestly solicited.

1. Tuition fees payable to other boards are based on the
estimates made by those boards in their 1970 invoices. The
final invoices were not available when the financial statements
were prepared, therefore it, is impossible to indicate the effect
On the Statement of Expenditure for tuition fee cogs,
2. Subsequent to the preparation of the 1969 financial
statements the board received a credit for 1969 tuition fees
from the London Board of Education of $90,114.00. This
amount was applied against the 1970 tuition fee expenditure.
3, The requisition for local taxation represents the actual
1070 requisition less the accumulated over requisition (net)
for 1969 and 1070.
4, The financial statements for the North and East Middlesex
District High School Boards at December 31, 1968 did not
provide for the cost of land, buildings, furniture and
equipment. In accordance with the instructions from the
Ontario Department of Education, the Board estimated these
values as follows:

5. The surplus (deficit) as reported on Exhibit "A" represents
the net surplus, deficits and reserves of the former school
