take lessons please enroll him or
her immediately.
Adult lessons will commence
next Monday at 6:30 p.m. Adults
are not required to pre-register,
just come to the pool at 6:30 p.m.
A special hour, 9 p.m. till 10
p.m. every Tuesday and Thur-
sday is set aside for adults to
enjoy a private swim,
This week approximately 1,217
children enjoyed the warm water
of the pool. There have been
several groups and school classes
renting the pool for an hour, the
charge for this is seven dollars.
We are very pleased with the
participation and interest
everyone is showing in the pool
and hope the enthusiasm keeps
up all during the season.

Registration for the swimming programs at the
Exeter and district swimming pool is now underway.
Registration forms appear on this same page and may be
filled out and forwarded to the recreation office.
Early registration is suggested as the swim
program is Woken into two sections, Each term consists
of five weeks swimming. The first term starts July 5 and
goes until August 3 with the second session going the
following day and terminating on September 3.
The fee for each child is five dollars with a family
plan of three or more children for ten dollars. For first
term swimmers wishing to continue to the second term
may register for an additional fee of $2,50 or five
do liars for the family plan of three or more youngsters.
Season tickets for open swimming are also
available at the pool. They cost $5 for children 14 years
and under and $7.50 for older children and adults. An
entire family may purchase season tickets for $20.
Registration for the younger fry for the summer
playground will be held at Victoria Park, Monday
morning July 5 at 10 o'clock in the morning.
This program is open to boys and girls five to
seven years of age. The registration fee is only two
dollars for the entire summer.
A chlorinator has been installed in the wading
pool at Victoria Park, ensuring safe paddling for the
youngsters.
Track Workshop
The R. E. Pooley branch of the Royal Canadian
Legion in Exeter is sponsoring a junior track and field
workshop.
This workshop will give all boys and girls in the
area between the ages of 10 and 15 an excellent
opportunity to pick up important coaching tips.
The Legion is well known for its coaching clinics
throughout the province and teams of demonstrators
and top flight instructors will be provided for the local
clinic.
It will be held at South Huron District High
School on Monday and Tuesday July 12 and 13. The
exact starting times were not available at press time but
should be announced in our edition of July 8.
Doug Ellison, a physical education teacher at
South Huron is in charge of local arrangements.
While the clinic is basically intended for public
school youngsters that will eventually be heading for
South Huron District High School, children from any
area will be more than welcome.
So let's go, youngsters, if you are interested in
attending this important clinic give Mr. Ellison a call at
235-1772. No experience in track and field is necessary
to attend these sessions. All that is necessary is a
willingness to learn the basic fundamentals.
Any local competitors showing outstanding
promise at the July clinic will be invited to attend an
eight day camp at Camp Borden in August with the only
expenses involved being that of transportation.
A cooling thought
With the extreme hot weather of the weekend,
some news out of London should help, possibly only
psychologically.
The fall training camp of the Boston Bruins will
open at the London Gardens, September 11.
Lots of action
Plenty of sports action is on tap in Dashwood this-
weekend as part of that village's Friedsburg Days
celebrations.
Softball, baseball, horse shoe pitching and
tug-of-war will be in the spotlight, both Friday and
Saturday.
The sports program gets underway Friday at 6:15
with the Crediton and Dashwood pee wees meeting in a
WOAA baseball contest. At 8:30, the Carlingford and
Brucefield girls softball teams will meet in an exhibition
contest.
Saturday at one o'clock an open horse shoe
pitching tournament will get underway with a monster
parade following at two o'clock.
At three o'clock, an exhibition baseball game pits
the Dashwood juveniles against the Exeter midgets. A
pair of South Huron District High school teachers coach
the two clubs and will be going all out to win the game.
Doug Ellison handles the Exeter club with Joe Fulop in
charge of the Dashwood youngsters.
A tug-of-war contest bringing together the
strongest men in this part of the country will be staged
at 7:30. Teams entered are the local Federation of
Agriculture team, the district National Farmers Union
and the Shipka Bulldogs.
The Shipka team headed by Cliff Russell won the
Stephen township centennial pull a couple of years ago
and should be odds-on favorites to repeat.
Saturday night at 8:30, a softball exhibition pits
the Exeter and McGillivray all-stars.
This may not be actually a sports attraction but
Saturday at the Dashwood village trustees will take on a
similar group from Zurich in a sauerkraut eating contest,
eating Saturday at seven o'clock.
We had a sneak preview of the capabilities of a
couple of the Dashwood men last week. So, look out
Zurich. Better save your appetites for a couple of days.
