Nancy Stretton and Patti Rowcliffe make the presentation to teacher Mrs. Phylis Deichert. The monies were split evenly between the South Huron Association for Mentally Retarded, Cerebral Palsy, Cystic Fibrosis and the Canadian Heart Fund. Mrs. William Kyle who has been receiving treatment in Victoria Hosital London for the past Humber of weeks was transferred to South Huron Hospital Exeter, Saturday. Service in Carmel Presbyterian Church will be at 9 a ,m. June 6th with Rev. W. Jarvis in charge. Rev. J. C. Britton and Mrs. 6 Britton of Seaforth purchased the MacLean property on Main Street and are taking up residence this month. Mrs. Alma Hess is visiting with her daughter and son-in-law Mr. & Mrs. J. L, McCloy, Don Mills. Mr. & Mrs. Anthony T. Van Dyke, of Three Rivers, Quebec are visiting with Mr. & Mrs. Sim Roobol. Mrs. P. Brand who was a patient in St. Josephs Hospital, London has returned home. •, To err is human; to really foul things up requires a computer. • • Couple wed in United Church A pretty spring wedding took place at Hensall United Church recently at 3:30 when Rev. Harold F. Currie united in marriage Eleanor Isabel McKenzie and Alvin Lloyd Filley of R.R, 2, Kent Bridge. The bride is the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Peter McKenzie of Kippen, For her wedding the bride chose a blue crepe dress with lace sleeves and A-line skirt and she carried a white Bible crested with pink sweetheart roses. She was attended by her sister, Mrs. Harold Cudmore, R,R. 1, Hensall, who wore a cream crimplene dress. The groomsman was Harold Cudmore. A wedding dinner was held at the Dufferin Hotel, Centralia with a reception following at the home of Mr, & Mrs. Cudmore. A dinner in the bride's honor was held at Latin Quarter when she received a gift from London Motor Products employees and staff. United Church hosts lodge The members of the I.O.O.F, and Amber Rebekah Lodge were guests at the Hensall United Church on Sunday morning. Rev. Harold F. Currie B.A. chose as his message "God Acts and Speaks to Modern Man." The Scripture Lesson was read by Mr. Charlie Hay. The choir under the direction of the organist Mrs. J. Turkheim A,T.C.M, sang an anthem. New drain for Oxford street Hensall Council held a special meeting last week and passed a supplementary bylaw for $6,000 for a storm drain on Oxford Street. They also agreed to call for tenders for 800 feet of sidewalk on Queen and Nelson Streets. Unemployment was slightly decreased in Exeter and Hay township when council hired three persons to clear out the dead trees and generally clean up the park with the $1,000 they will receive from government em- ployment incentive grant. qeetattueeto pteat4 The highlight of the annual fly- up ceremony of the Hensall Brownie and Girl Guide com- panies was the awarding of the blue, (gold) thanks badge to Brown Owl Mrs. Robert Cook who is retiring after 13 years of meritous service in Guiding in the community. Miss Mary MacMillan, area commissioner presented the badge on behalf of the local association and gave a brief resume of guiding from 1958 to 1971. In an unusual ceremony, Brownies Vicki Baker, Brenda Campbell, Julie Mock, Kim Stewart, Melissa Veal and Dorna Williams flew up to Guides as Yellow Birds. Brownie badges were presented by Mrs. Eric Luther to Toyrriakers Dorna Williams and Vicki Baker; collectors, Melissa Veal, Dorna Williams, Kim Stewart, Marilyn Pepper and /Nancy Dietz. Golden bars prpsented by Tawny Owl Mrs. Rodger Venner went to Cathy Koehler, Connie Koehler, Debbie Reid, Nancy Dietz, Janette Charrette, Sandra Nixon and Karen Shiels, Brown Owl Mrs. Robert Cook presented Golden Hands and Wings to the' "Fly-ups." Retiring Brown Owl, Mrs. McCormick's Cook, presented the Brown Owl • pin to Mrs. Rodger Venner who will assume leadership in Sep- tember. Huron Division Commissioner Mrs, H. McCreath assisted by Guide captain Mrs. Jim Gladding and Mrs. K Van Wieren enrolled Cheryl Fuss, Jackie McClinchey, Nancy McCurdy, and Dale Simmons as Guides. On behalf of the Brownies, Guides, Guiders and friends, Patti Van Wieren presented Mrs. Cook with a gift in appreciation of her services, During a fitting reply Mrs. Cook said that the rewards and memories are a treasured part of guiding. Stratford lady hosts U.C.W. Chiselhurst U.C.W. were guests of a former member Mrs. Wm. Gibson of R.R. 3, Stratford for the May meeting. Mrs. Wm. Brintnell led the worship assisted by Mrs. R. Taylor. Mrs: Harry Caldwell, as guest speaker gave an excellent talk on Citizenship. Mrs. Alf Ross played musical selections on her small organ. President Mrs. R. Brock Most of the Guides and Brownies enjoyed a bus trip to the Goderich Museum and Camp Klahani, Saturday to conclude the year's activities. Rev. H. Snell at anniversary Anniversary services will be held morning and evening in the United Church. Guest speaker for both services will be Rev. Harold Snell, B.A.., B.D. of Riverside United Church, London. Music for the day will be provided by the junior and senior choirs in the morning, and by the Huronia choir in the evening. The Kinette Club of Clinton monthly program and tea was held in the auditorium last Wednesday afternoon, Sarah Carter thanked the group on behalf of the residents. The residents were entertained on Thursday (Family Night) with a variety program arranged by Nelson Howe of Cromarty. Mrs. Gladys Van Egmond, played several selections on the piano and accompanied the musicians Nelson Howe, violin; and Ivan Norriss, guitar. There were also dance numbers by Bonnie Norriss. The Christian Reform Church young people held a song service in the auditorium Sunday evening. Dick Roorda led the group hymn sing assisted by Alice Roorda on the piano with / several special numbers by the young people. Plans are being made to hold open house at Huronview on Senior Citizens Week which will be June 20 to 26.
