G. Strang, Exeter, Mrs. Thomas Meyers, Zurich and Mrs. Arthur Rundle, Exeter. All three ladies were honored for their effective service over the years to the Institute both locally and provincially. Mrs, W. D. Mack made the presentation to Mrs. Strang, while Mrs. Lorne Klopp and Mrs. Garnet Hicks did the same to Mrs. Meyers and Mrs. Rundle. They were assisted by Mrs. Delbert Geiger, out-going president, Hensall branch hosted the meeting at the United Church, Following registration, the all day event was opened by Mrs. Geiger, and the guests welcomed by Mrs. James McAllister, Hensall. During the morning session reports were given by the president, secretaries and conveners. Provincial board member, Mrs. Norman Coulthard, St. Pauls, was in- troduced by Mrs. Gordon Papple, The former ratified the district directors. Catherine Hunt, Home Economist for Huron, spoke briefly, She praised the 4-H club program for guiding and directing young people who face the challenges of the 70's. There are 87 4-H homemaking clubs in the country comprising 950 girls, an all time high membership. After lunch, served in the church parlors, Barbara Dougall RECEIVE DISTRICT LIFE MEMBERSHIPS: Three members of South Huron District Women's Institute received life memberships at the annual meeting in Hensall last week. Those receiving the honor were Mrs. H. H. G. South Huron W.I. elects new slate of officers THE OLD AND THE NEW: South Huron District Women's Institute elected a new slate of officers Thursday at the annual meeting. Above are Mrs. Newell Geiger and Mrs. Delbert Geiger, Zurich, former secretary-treasurer and president, and new officers, Miss Ruth Skinner, president, and Mrs. Gilbert Johns, secretary-treasurer. displayed the Women's Institute plaque she had won at Centralia College of Agricultural Technology and expressed her appreciation, Pennies for Friendship, an ACWW project, were presented from the nine participating branches, under the direction of Mrs. A. Rundle. Comments on the crafts displayed by each of the branches were made, These included, stuffed toys, tailoring, cushions, mats, liquid embroidery, knit- ting, quilts, oil painting, hats, geometric weaving and a model of the old Crediton tile works. Crediton branch also displayed a book, featuring places and people of interest in the Crediton area, which will be sent to Crediton, England, in honor of St. Boniface day being held there in June, Mrs. Coulthard, whose district includes 51 branches gave a report for the provincial board. She stated over 22,000 women took part in the short courses offered last year and that the Sewing With Knits course had been extremely popular. She outlined plans for the 75th anniversary of the Federated Women's Institute of Ontario in 1972, which will include a lun- cheon at the Royal York Hotel, Toronto, February 12. Around 1,400 persons will be present and it is hoped each branch will be represented by one member. The speaker will be the new president of ACWW. Mrs. Coulthard encouraged all branches to make plans to commemorate the anniversary locally. She closed her remarks by saying, "Let us be more in- formed and enthusiastic about our Women's Institute, Courtesy gifts were presented to Mrs. D. Geiger, out-going president s and by Mrs. Ed. Lamport to Mrs. Newell Geiger, retiring secretary treasurer. BOOK FOR CR EDITON, ENGLAND — Mrs. Earl Haist and Mrs. W. D. Mack hold a book prepared for the celebration of St. Boniface day in Crediton, England, next month. The book which contains a written history and photographs of interesting buildings in the Crediton area is a gift from the residents of Crediton, Ontario. Miss Ruth Skinner, Elimville, was elected president of South Huron District Women's Institute at the annual meeting Thursday.
