Mrs. Emerson Anderson conducted worship with the theme The Road to Egypt, She was assisted by Mrs. John Cooper. and Mrs. Edison McLean in recalling Biblical accounts of memourable nights. Presiding President Mrs. John Anderson opened the .meeting with a poem, May Journey, Roll call was answered by presenting tea towels for the newly com- pleted kitchen. The topic was taken by Mrs. Ronald McGregor and centered around her work as a teacher at Huron Hope School for Mentally Retarded. Statistical slides of children plus display and ex- planation of teaching aids used in the school made it interesting and informative. Business was conducted. An upcoming meeting will be the Huron-Perth Presbyterial U.C.W. to be held May 19 at Thames Road United Church. Other meetings of importance are the Huron-Perth Presbyterial Retreat, June 16, at Goderich North Street Church and West- minster on the weekend of May 28-30. A donation to Clinton Public Hospital Auxiliary was made. Explorer leader Mrs. David Turner offered to donate glass bowls to the new kitchen. Strawberry supper is planned for June 30, 5-7 p.m, Mrs. Bert Faber will remain as press reporter until Dec, 1971. A vote of thanks was given to the kitchen committee by Mrs. Emerson Kyle. Special thanks was given to Mr, & Mrs. Keith Lovell who donated a refrigerator and Mr. & Mrs. Robert Elgie who donated kitchen light fixtures, The regular June meeting will have the New director of Children's aid Society, Mr. Bruce Heath as guest speaker, Mrs. David Turner extended courtesy remarks on behalf of the group. .Lunch was served by hostesses, Mrs. John Cooper and Mrs. Laird Finlayson. A, Carson preached on 'This Time of Testing.' lie said we live in a time of urgency; that Christians should act before it is too late. They must stop supporting the `status quo', and begin to change their ways, so that they can in- fluence the cynical, depraved, frustrated society around them, At this Rogation season youth is saying we want freedom to eat, to go to school, to worship, to live in a decent house, in a decent neigh- bourhood. Christians have the answer but we need action not words. PERSONALS Mr. & Mrs. .Frank Pearson of London visited Mrs. Omer Cunningham and Mr. & Mrs. Roy Cunningham and family, Saturday. Mrs. Almer Hendrie is home again after spending sometime with Mr. & Mrs. Bill Downing, Chatham. Earl Morgan, who was troubled with a left hand while in Toronto, was able to return home and resume work. Monday visitors with Mrs. J. H. Paton were Mrs. Wilson Hodgins and Mrs. Eric Hodgins. Other recent callers were Mrs. J. M. Southcott and Mrs. Art Whilsmith of Exeter. Kirkton ladies entertain guests By MRS. HAROLD DAVIS Kirkton U,C.W. entertained guests from Woodham, Coopers, Zion West, Kirkton Anglican and the Kirkton Class that Counts at their May meeting Wednesday evening. Mrs. Ewart Crago and Mrs. Rea Stephen were in charge of devotional period. Mrs. Clayton Ross favoured with a solo and Mrs. Jim Bearss played two numbers on the piano. Mrs. Bob Cook of Stratford showed slides and told of her most interesting experiences while she was teaching school in Guiana. She was thanked and presented with a gift by Mrs. Ray Paynter. A trio, consisting of Mrs. Reg Morrison, Mrs. George Burgin, and Mrs. Bob Marshall, sang three numbers and Mrs. Ross Ballantyne delighted everyone with music on her accordion. Lunch was served and a social hour of fellowship enjoyed. Thorndale and Mrs. Fred Fairhall of London were Sunday visitors with Mrs. Clara Abbott. Mrs. Ray Shoebottom is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. FRED BOWDEN CENTRALIA The UCW Blossom Tea Wed- nesday afternoon was the highlight of the week. Visitors were greeted by the president, Mrs. Sam Skinner. Mrs. Ken Hodgins and Mrs. Lorne Hicks played an organ and piano prelude and the devotional part of the program was con- ducted by Mrs. Alvin Lobb who also welcomed the guests. Crediton UCW contributed a reading to the program and Elimville ladies led in a hymn sing, "Old Hymns to New Tunes." Rev. Wilson introduced the guest speaker, Rev. Susan Seymour of Granton who spoke on the topic, Qualitative Living. She felt that life should have Barbara Lach of The Pines, Chatham, attended the 25th wedding anniversary of her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Peter Lach held at the recreation hall in Arkona. Two hundred friends were present at the event held May 7. Wm Gill is operating a Supertest service station at Pt Edward. Norman Vincent, Mrs. Helen Birtwhistleof Grand Bend and Mrs. H. Prance visited in Thedford last Friday. Visitors over the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. H. Prance were John Prance and Mrs. Audrey Moore of Exeter and Mr. & Mrs. Gotelaer and sons of Ridgetown. John Wahle, who operates the Aux Sable River Ranch, a home for boys, has purchased the property of Ray Gooding in Parkhill. humour, hope and happiness. The quantity of years is not im- portant, it is the quality that counts. What a person does with the years is of the utmost im- portance. One must try to develop a sense of security, must have the ability to trust and be willing to give generously. An organ solo was played by Mrs. Ken Hodgins. Thanks were expressed and closing remarks made by Mrs. Ken Greb, chairlady. Rev. Wilson closed the program with prayer and the ladies were invited downstairs to the tea room which was ap- propriately decorated for the occasion. MESSENGERS MEETING The May meeting of the Messengers was held in the schoolroom of the church Sunday morning and the meeting opened with a. hymn and the motto. Penny Smitti gave a reading, Chirper's Sp?ingtime Song. Brenda Gaynor, Donna Wilson and Dianne Skinner sang, I Love to go a Wandering. Maureen Hodgins of London sang a song. The story, The Birthday Party, was told by Mrs. Harvey Smith. The group made a $10 con- tribution to the Bunny Bundle. PERSONALS Mrs. G. F. Penwarden of Sarnia was a visitor at the home of Mrs. Lorne Hicks Wednesday of last week and attended the UCW Blossom Tea. Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Bayley of London, Mrs. Mabel Gilfillan and Sherry Gilfillan of Exeter were Friday evening visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Harvey Smith and Penny. Sherry remained for the weekend. Dan Shoebottom, having completed his first year of studies at the Sir Sanford Fleming College of Forest Technology in Lindsay visited with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Shoebottom before leaving for Espanola where he is em- ployed for the summer with the Department of lands and forests.
