PaVis, Their doctor sent a message saying he hoped he wouldn't see them too soon. U.C.W. The afternoon unit of U.C,W. met in the church Thursday . Piano selections were played by Mrs. C. Kennedy while the members gathered. Mrs, Olive Miller presided over the worship period, using the Beatitudes for the scripture reading. Prayer was the theme for the meditation. Appropriate hymns were sung. The Worship concluded by a piano solo "The Holy City," Mrs. R. Kading, chaired the meeting for business. Roll call was answered by naming a favourite missionary and why? Articles were on display of a layette for the Children's Aid in Qoderich. Four crib quilts for the CAS were donated by Mrs. Etta Baker, It was also decided to collect a bale of good used clothing in the early fall few the Rescue Mission. Lunch was served by Mrs. DOn Hendrick and committee. UNITED CHURCH U,C.W. Sunday was observed in the United Church May 16. Rev. Susan Seymour of Granton was guest speaker, A ladies choir led the singing and a duet, Amazing Grace, was sung by Mrs. Wm. Brenner and Mrs. G. Kading, Mrs, Wm. Sturdevant presided in the pulpit and Mrs. R. Keyes and Mrs. J. Eagleson read the scriptures. The offering was received by Mrs. A. Hamilton, Mrs, R. Kading, Mrs. Les Adams and Mrs. Don Hendrick , A paragraph from a letter from Rev. M. Irwin from Korea was printed in the church bulletin stating that the gift of money from Grand Bend U.C.W, will be used to help a family outside of the •city of Seaul send three of their children to high school and university, The gift will pay the tuition fees of two of the children for this spring, PERSONALS Dr, & Mrs. D. Oueracker of Antwerp N.Y. were guests last week With Mrs. Leroy Bariteau. The Explorer group are can- vassing for the "flowers of hope” campaign._ The ice on' the lake at Grand Bend finally moved out May 16. Mr, Jack Mennel, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce reported having had a very busy weekend in the tourist office. Grand Bend tourist season will be in full swing next weekend. The thermometer for the Medical Centre isn't rising very fast these days. Ten thousand dollars is still needed to complete the building. A grass fire South of Grand Bend last Saturday along the pinery, caused an exciting and anxious time for people living in the area. Fire trucks were called to help from surrouding towns to help fight the fast moving fire. Mrs. Dora Wilson is a patient in Exeter Hospital. Rev. H. Dobson is attending Conference at the University of Windsor this week. Mr. & Mrs. Howard Gordon were weekend guests with Mr. & Mrs. A. Dayman. Mr. & Mrs, Wm. Dace are home again after vacationing in the South. Rev. H. Dobson exchanged pulpits with Rev. Susan Seymour of Granton last Sunday, The newly-weds, Mr. & Mrs. Brad Hamilton, have taken up residence in Owen Sound. Mrs. Wm. Blewett entertained the evening unit of U.C.W. at her home last Thursday evening. By MRS. J. TEMPLEMAN The executive of the Staffa Women's Institute met at the home of Mrs. Charles Douglas Tuesday afternoon to plan the meetings for the coming year. Plans are underway to entertain the 4-H girls and their leaders at the May meeting. The elementary and high school children from this area, competed in the music festival in Mitchell this past week. The triple trio from Upper Thames Grade VIIB were the winners of the Staffa Womens Institute trophy. PERSONALS Mr. & Mrs. Leslie Miller, ac- companied by Mrs. Mary Miller and Miss Berta Otto, Mitchell, visited Sunday with Mrs. Arthur Rohde and Joyce, Stratford. The occasion was Mrs. Miller's 89th birthday. Mr. & Mrs. John Templeman visited over the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Victor Young and James Templeman, Feb- versham, and Mrs, James Templeman in Markdale Hospital. Two car load of Staffa Women's Institute members attended the District Annual in Stratford Tuesday. This year's president Wayne Preszcator officially opened the meeting and secretary Brent Clark took the attendence record of between 30 and 40 members ranging in ages from 11 to 20 years. The leaders for the new club are Mrs. Pat Down, Mrs. Helen Preszcator, Mrs. Jean Johns, Mr. Frank Hicks, and will be supervising the members and helping them learn various things about horses and ponies. Mr. Hicks introduced two guest speakers Gary Richardson and Dwight Brien of Toronto, who spoke and showed interesting and educational films of "The Quarter Horse," "Northern Dancer" and how to judge hor- ses. Draws were made near the end of the meeting for five vouchers of 50 lbs. of Shur-Gain horse ration. The leaders are Mrs. Jack Stewart, Mrs. Arnold Cann, and Mrs. Lorne Johns. Mrs. Lorne Johns proposed a toast to the graduates with Debra Hem replying. Darlene Passmore proposed a toast to the mothers with Mrs. Edwin Miller replying. Marlene Stewart, Joanne Hodgert and Judith Cann showed pictures of their recent trip to Rome with Judith doing the commentating.
