BATTLE ICE — No, this is not a photo left over from last month. It was taken on Friday, May 14 when
eight boats from the Grand Bend fishing fleet became stuck in ice as they started back into harbor. It
took them over two hours to battle their way home in the ice, some of which was eight feet thick.
Below, the Naomi with Henry, Howard and Joe Green aboard finally nears the river, As may be
expected, it was one of the latest dates on record for ice on the lake in the Grand Bend area. T-A photo

The Elimville Women's
Institute was held Wednesday
evening with the new president,
Mrs. Elson. Lynn, in charge,
Gifts were presented to Judy
Parsons for receiving Provincial
Honours, and County Honour
gifts were presented to Sandra
Skinner, Brenda Blair, Karen
Rodd and Debbie Bern,
Red Cross certificates and pins
were presented to Verla Allen,
Joan Allen, Helen Batten, Sharon
Batten, Marie Brock, Phyllis
Gower, Yvonne Jaques, Joan
Lynn, Jim Lynn and Dennis
Brock.
Mrs. Ivan Brock was presented
with a gift from the Institute for
serving her term of two years as
president.
Mrs. Lynn introduced Mr.
Edward Skinner who showed
movies of the Exeter flood,
winter scenery and the Calgary
stampede.
Roll Call was answered by 'a
safety law for which I am thank-
ful.'
The District Annual will be
May 20 at Hensall United Church
where Mrs, Wm. Morley will
comment on her display of
tailoring.
It was moved to donate $5.00 to
the Exeter fair prizes, and $5.00
for Junior 4-H displays,
The bus tour to Grand Bend will
be July 14 for members and
husbands.
Mrs. Lynn gave an account of
the officers conference in Guelph
and. Ruth Skinner gave the
hospital report.
Mrs, Delmer Skinner had
charge of the program on. Safety.
Mrs. Ross Skinner gave two
readings and safety verses were
read by 10 members.
A skit was presented by Mrs,
Howard Pym and Mrs. Ross
Skinner.
Lunch was served by the
hostess, Mrs. Sam Skinner, Mrs.
Howard Pym, Mrs. Ward Hern
and Mrs. Ron. Fletcher.

The Ladies Aid of Zion
Lutheran church held a mother
and daughter supper May 12, for
all mothers and daughters of the
congregation,
Group I was in charge with Mrs.
V. L. Becker as convener.
Janice Hayter proposed a toast
to the mothers which was replied
to by Mrs. Marie Resternayer.
Miss Helen Nadiger led in a sing
song with Mrs. Oscar Miller at
the piano.
The junior choir sang two
numbers. Piano solos were
played by Elizabeth Datars and
Catherine Becker, Julie Luther
played accordion selections. Jane
Hayter gave a reading.
Several prizes were awarded
as follows: youngest mother with
a daughter present, Mrs. Earl
Keller; daughter coming far-
thest, Lori Keller; mother with
birthday nearest Mother's Day,
Mrs. Lloyd Rader; daughter with
birthday nearest the supper,
Sharon Rader; lucky place, Mrs.
Oscar Miller.
A brief business meeting was in
charge of the president, Mrs. Jim
Hayter. The new altar guild is
Mrs. Leonard Schenk and Mrs.
Martha Miller, The ladies will
have the June birthday party at
the Bluewater Rest Home, June
9.
