By SID DALEY
The Royal Canadian Legion
stays right in there and continues
working for the veteran and the
community. This became quite
evident following the District
Commanders report to the
District A convention held
recently in London.
Public Relations - which in-
clude hockey, baseball, track and
field, softball, lacrosse, football
and etc. the Legion Branches
spent $26,680.00 For Girl Guides,
Scouts and Cubs $1,990.00 plus the
use of branch facilities. West-
minister Hospital: re visits,
annual hospital carnivals,
variety shows etc, $4,350.00
Other expenditures to Charity
and other organizations $22,220.75
for a total of $55,240.75. Our
Legion Bursary Program
$10,950.00 Grand Total $66,190.75.
District A also sponsors
Literary (poem and Essay),
Public Speaking and many more
programs too numerous to
mention.
Comrades this gives you just a
rough idea of what the Royal
Canadian Legion is doing in
'PEACE' we also did our bit
during WAR.'
Remember Comrades District
A, which encompasses Lucan, is
but one of eleven Districts into
which the Province of Ontario is
divided. Can you imagine the
tremendous impact the Royal
Canadian Legion must have. Also
remember, monies raised by a
Branch of the Royal Canadian
Legion is spent within their own
Community. Our motto should be
."WE CONTINUE TO SERVE,"
Now you know Comrades why I
am so proud to be a member of
the Royal Canadian Legion, the
ACTIVE SET. How about you?
If you are not already a member
and are 'EX-SERVICE' see any
Legionnaire who willbe happy to
help you to become a member.
By the way, another great at-
tribute membership in the Royal
Canadian Legion has to offer is
'COMRADESHIP.'
No matter where you may
travel, at home or distant land,
your Royal Canadian Legion
Lapel Badge will identify you as a
COMRADE and as such Com-
radeship follows.
Our second annual ladies ap-
preciation banquet will be held
Saturday May 15. We are proud of
our ladies and the fine work they
continue to do. It is only right the
tables be turned and we wait on
them for a change.
We would like to take this
opportunity to thank all those
who answered our plea for
bicycle, tricycle and wagon
parts. The response was
tremendous and Comrade PAGE
is swamped with parts for the
present, however keep looking
and hold any parts you may
come across and we will advise
when collections will resume.
Now there is something that is
needed desperately and that is
bicycle tires. There are some
bicycles ready for delivery to a
retarded child that only require
tires to complete the job. How
about it Folks, CAN YOU HELP
OUT ON THIS COMMODITY?
May 8 a team from Branch 540
journeyed to Corunna to take part
in the District A dart tournament.
It would appear the other Dart
Clubs throughout the District
have also been practicing, as our
Dart Team didn't fare so well. We
are still proud of you Comrades
for taking the time to participate
represent good old 540.
May 28 'Captain' Harvey

Team to the District A Finals to
be held in Strathroy. Good Luck
Lucan United Church was
decorated with baskets of mixed
white flowers April 24, 1971 when
Rev. W. C. Tupling united Daisy
Lavinia Cobleigh and Robert
Edward Stevenson in holy
matrimony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Maurice Cobleigh, of
Lucan and the groom is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Haskell of
Glencoe, Ontario.
Mrs. Roy Dykeman provided
the organ music.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a floor-
length gown of white lace,
featuring long sleeves and a
stand-up collar. A four-tier net
veil was held by a head-piece of
floral and leaf design. She
carried a bouquet of pink and
white roses.
The bride's sister, Mrs. Peter
Manders, *as matron of honour,
while another sister, Mrs. Robert
Porter, and Alice Bryan were
