One-way traffic
is working well
According to the police
department, Exeter's new
loading zone and the one-way
traffic on a block of Anne St, are
working out well.
However, council members
aren't quite as convinced.
In giving the April police
report for Chief Ted Day, Con-
stable Ardell McIntyre reported
that five persons have been
warned about driving the wrpng
way on Anne St. in the first block
west of Main.
"There must have been 100
people who saw the same five,"
commented Mayor Jack
Delbridge, who reported that
many people have told him
drivers are still going the wrong
way on the street.
The police report indicated an
improvement regarding driving
practices in the Sanders and
Andrew St. area. Parents near
the busy intersection had com-
plained to police about erratic
drivers having no regard for
young children in the neigh-
borhood.
The police commenced a crack-
down and indicated "the matter
is cleaned up considerably".
During the month of April, 28
drivers were charged under the
Highway Traffic Act, with
another 39 receiving warnings.
Many of those charged were
caught speeding by the police
radar unit.
There were seven parking
tickets issued and one person
charged with impaired driving.
Other statistics were as
follows: 10 accidents with two
persons injured, five charged
under the Liquor Control Act, five
places of business found in-
secure, six dog complaints, one
assault investigated and two
persons charged under the
Criminal Code.
There were five thefts, with the
total loot being $64.50. A total of
$24.30 of that was recovered after
three male juveniles were ap-
prehended by police.
Owner of most of the loot was
one of the lad's father.
