several years. Rather, put them
to good use by calling Comrade
E. Page at 228-6425 or Smilin'
Carl at 227-4751. They will be
picked up right at your door.
Comrade Page has a great
project going, Comrades and
Friends; he is making up
bicycles for the retarded
children. Make a special effort
this spring, folks, and if you have
any old bicycles or tricycles or
any parts of either, we ask you to
donate them and help make some
unfortunate child's life a little
happier.
Wednesday, April 21 at 8:30
p.m. our Lucan Branch 540 will
have the privilege of hosting the
Zone A5 meeting. This is an
important meeting, comrades, in
that it will be the last meeting
prior to the District A Convention
to be held in London at the Hotel
London on April 24 and 25.
Make it a point to attend,
Comrades. There will be some
important issues discussed and
best of all, be there to extend the
friendly hospitality of Branch 540
to the visiting comrades from
around the Zone.
Don't forget Branch 540's
Monster Open Dart Tournament
to be held this Saturday, April 17.
Not only is there $250.00 in prize
money to be won, there will be
comradeship and hospitality
which has become Branch 540's
by-word over the years. So, for
fun and games it's Branch 540
this Saturday, April 17.. Make it a
date to meet and greet your pals
at 540. Incidentally this will be a
mixed affair so bring along your
Granton man

William Earl Cook died sud-
denly April 8, 1971, at the

72nd year.
He is survived by his wife,
Irene Hodgson, and daughters,

Marys, Mrs. Harold (Edith)

lovely colleen and let her throw a
dart or two who knows she may
get lucky.
A gentle reminder — the
Provincial Convention of the
Royal Canadian Legion will be
held May 30-31, June 1-2-3 in the
Waterloo Branch of the Canadian
Legion. Start making plans to
attend. If you cannot take in the
full convention, make an attempt
to take in a few days of it.
You will have the opportunity
of meeting comrades from the
north, south, east and west of the
great province. I don't know of a
place I'd rather be, comrades, to
coin a phrase. "Don't ask 'what
can the Legion do for me' but
rather 'What can I do for the
Legion' ". It's a great
organization, yea, "The
Greatest" get in there,
comrades, support your branch,
your executive, your comrades
and the "Fallen".
Dates to remember.
Thursday nights is BINGO nite
at 540 —incidentally the Jackpot
looks pretty good and hasn't gone
yet!
Sat. April 17 — $250.00 Open
Dart Mixed Tournament.
Wed. Apr. 21 — Zone A5
Meeting, Lucan.
And that's thirty for this week!
It now looks as though the
taxpayer will be the first of
America's natural resources to
be completely exhausted!
Extend French
to all grade 8's
Pending budget approval, the
Middlesex County Board of
Education last night decided to
extend French language in-
struction next fall to all grade 8
classes in the County.
At present, French is being
taught to over 400 pupils in grade
7 and 8 in Delaware and West-
minster Townships.
Extension of the second
language instruction to about 880
pupils in all other grade 8 classes
is expected to have an annual net
cost to ratepayers of ap-
proximately $11,500.
Another special extension
approved by the board is the
establishment in September 1971
of a school for the trainable
retarded as a wing of the A. E,
Duffield School in Lambeth.
Decision to establish the
school, the third in the County
system, was prompted by rising
costs of purchasing this
specialized education from the
London Board of Education.
The Middlesex Board expects
to reduce annual costs by ap-
proximately $39,000 with the
integrated school wing at
Lambeth,
Revising its capital building
program, the board moved a
proposed addition to Medway
High School to first priority and
an addition to Strathroy District
Collegiate Institute to second
priority.
Both schools will, by Sep-
tember 1972, have enrolments
much greater than their present
rated capacities.
The board will also investigate
the possibility of establishing a
grade 7 to 13 or 8 to 13 program at
North Middlesex District High
School in Parkhill in September
1972.
Plan activities
for Centennial
The Centennial Committee of
Lucan met with representatives
from 14 organizations in the
community, Wednesday, in the
Legion Hall.
Many suggestions were made
for the celebration which will be
held August 23-29. These include
a parade, dances, pony races,
ball games, beard-growing
contest, track and field events,
swimming, beef barbecue and a
hobby show, and a combined
church service on the Sunday.
The committee will meet again
April 26 at the Legion Hall.
