Huskies advancing to the next round of the Ontario Hockey Association Intermediate "B" playdewns? The Jets won the series on the ice but the Huskies are trying to win in the OHA committee room. A protest meeting was held in Toronto Wednesday night to decide the issue. No details were available at press time, The controversy came to light moments after the Jets had walloped the Huskies 8-3 at the Huron Park arena, Friday night in what was supposed to be the first game of a two-games-total- goals series. A member of the Durham executive presented a copy of a protest challenging the eligibility of the Jet club in the Friday night game, The protest was based on rule 109 which states a team must dress at least four players that are actual residents of the municipality which the club represents. The Huskies were apparently challenging the eligibility of Jamie Robb and Steve Proctor, 1969 AUSTIN 1300 AMERICAN low mileage, radio primrose, K33066 1968 EPIC 2-door, automatic, radio, K30682 1968 PONTIAC LAURENTIAN 4-door sedan, power brakes, power steering, V-8, automatic, radio,J56683 1966 FORD 2-door hardtop, V -8, automatic, power steering, power brakes, radio, red with black vinyl top 1966 PONTIAC PARISIENNE Convertible, automatic, radio, K7727 JUST A R RI VED The 1971 Austin Mini and 1971 Austin 1300 SEE THEM TODAY South End Service EXETER 235-2322 Open Evenings By Appointment who live at R.R. The rule bookgoes on to say, "For the purpose of this regulation, the home territory of any team entered from within an unorganized municipality or from within a township, or village of less than 2,000 population shall be defined as any part of such township lying within a radius of three miles from the post office of the community." The Jets base their protest defence on the fact Ildertort is not an organized municipality. It is actually a police village that is governed by the township of London, The Durham club took the protest form to the 011A office in Toronto Saturday and were told by officials there that according to the book the protest would be upheld. At the same time, they were told the total goals series would be thrown out and a new best-of- three series set up with Sunday's scheduled second game of the old series going as the first. Despite lots of confusion the two teams carried out the Sunday game and the Huskies came out on top by a score of 3-2, Did the Jets win the first series 10-6 or are the Huskies one game up in the final? Well, apparently some of the players didn't know either. Several members of the Durham club congratulated the Jets after the game was over as if they were through for the year. Monday morning, the Jet executive wasted little time warming up the telephone wires. Besides calls to the OHA office, the Jets contacted Toronto lawyer Allan Eagleson, who is attorney for Bobby Orr and other NHL stars. Eagleson agreed to meet with the Jet executive. Late Monday morning president Barry Beech, manager Don Urbshott, coach Jack Nairn and veteran player Steve Storey headed for Toronto and a con- ference with Eagleson. After a two-hour discussion with Eagleson and his law part- ner Bill McMurtney including several calls to the OHA office the date of the protest meeting. was set. Tuesday morning Jet president Barry Beech delivered a copy of the protest defence to Durham to Heskie coach jinx Nixon. Jet manager Don Urbshott told the T-A Tuesday, "I hope the protest settles the series once and for all, If we have been wrong. over the years in interpreting the ruling, then we will have to ac- cept it. I certainly hope they don't order another series. It wouldn't be fair to our fans. They have been great in following our club and we shouldn't jerk them around anymore." Urbshott added that the Jets have been operating for three years on the assumption that players in a three mile radius qualified and the Lucan-Ilderton Combines for about four years Final game in Rec loop The final series to decide the championship of the Exeter and district Rec hockey league has come down to the final game, The Huron Park Plugs and the Bank Boys meet tonight, Thur- sday at eight o'clock at the Exeter arena in the fifth and deciding contest, Huron Park took a decisive 7-1 decision Thursday night to take a one game lead in the series but the Bank Boys bounced back Monday night to edge the Plugs 4- 2 and force the deciding contest. Fred Wells scored twice to lead the Bank Boys in the fourth game. Notching single goals were Don Campbell and Ron Durand. Scoring in single fashion for Huron Park were Don Hart and Ian McCallum. In the 7-1 Huron Park victory, Bob Pinter scored a hat trick to lead the attack. Larry Brintnell was close behind with a two goal performance while single counters were notched by Frank Boyle and Bob Lammie.
