T-A photo Huron MP endorses plan Seeks support for school The big difference between the Canadian hockey and sport training centre at Huron Park and the hockey schools in other centres is that no' professional players are on staff, and in- structors are resource people from the university level who are teachers knowledgeable in sport training. Up to this time 780 boys have passed through the school. Mr. Roach proposes that his program be broken down into four sessions of two weeks each. Each session would ac- commodate 50 candidates, providing them accommodation right in Huron Park. He estimates costs of in- structors, meals, lodging and ice rental to be $5,600 a week for a total cost of $44,800, An additional $12,000 would be Factory Door face 11,49 12.45 13,40 13.40 12.95 14.95 17.35 12.25 Cheque out a crippled child today. -.."..-.1.!_••••aws See what your dollars can do. Explorers plan for dessert tea Lucan --Clandeboye Explorers met Monday in the C,E. building of Lucan United Church. Guest helper, Carol Mason taught 36 explorers to decorate serviettes for the 18th annual dessert tea this Saturday. Mrs, Ross McRoberts in- structed girls making table center pieces. Each girl brought a Bible verse to use in spreading the good news about Jesus - Mrs. Keith Kraul attached these to a striped pole to display them. Embroidered wash cloths were brought in for points. Sheila Smith made a poster to show a way in which the Bible is distributed. Gold Star girls received a rousing cheer for perfect at- tendance. Expedition closed with Explorer prayer. Next expedition will be April 26. Girls will decorate tables Friday at 4 p.m. June 17, they will have a bus trip to London to the explorer rally at First St. Andrews United Church. New organ is dedicated Sunday at the morning service, the new organ was dedicated under the direction of Rev. W. C. Tupling. P. D. Vahey represented the men of the congregation who gave their lives in the First World War and M. H. Hodgins, the Second World War, while Ivan Stanley spoke for the present congregation. Mr. Tupling ac- cepted and pronounced the dedication. Howard Kew then took his place at the organ for the remainder of the service, sub- stituting for Mrs. DeVree who had hurt her hand, Mr. Tupling's sermon was entitled, 'I Believe in the Church'. The soloist was Marlene Butler. In the evening there was an organ and choir recital. The guest organists were Mrs, G. W. Sach and Howard Kew, and the soloists were Mrs. Alex Jones and Mrs. Brent Bamford. The choir sang 'Lead on, 0 Prince of Peace' at Mr. Kew's request. EVENING UNIT UCW The evening unit of the UCW of Lucan United Church met last Tuesday in the C.E. building with 10 members and the Leader, Mrs. Frances Saward, in the chair. Mrs. Eldon Young and Mrs. H. B. Langford conducted the worship service and Mrs, Saward read from the study book. Paul Roach of Mississauga, who for several years has operated a Canadian hockey and sport training centre in the former RCAF base at Centralia, has applied to Secretary of State Gerard Pelletier for a grant to conduct an opportunity for Youth Program at Huron Park this summer. Mr. Roach's proposal would cost the federal government $56,000 to provide transportation, administration, and promotion of the project, which foresees training of up to 200 youths between the ages of 14 and 18 years in a variety of athletic skills, The proposal has the support of Huron MP Robert McKinley who has written the secretary of state urging that the proposal be ac- cepted. Mr. Roach proposes that the candidates for the school be confined to high school students of Ontario as a pilot program for the present year., If successful, it would be the school's intention to extend it to leasing of the athletic facilities of CFB Clinton, which will be phased out as a forces base in September. "The school would also take on the responsibility of offering and conducting additional athletic skills training schools in the Maritime provinces, utilizing Canadian forces bases that will eventually be closing," Mr. Roach said in his submission. NDP meet - Continued from page 18 the source of the $180,000 for Bill Davis' leadership campaign. Or the $200,000 to operate the Con- servative provincial office, which their president, Mr. Harnett, says are from "party sources which I can't reveal." Or the $110,000 or more that the in- surance agents are planning to use to fight the NDP in the next election. In addition, the Con- servatives will be raising an additional $2 million election fund - where? - so that each provincial riding will be given $5,000. Of our total campaign budget, which is considerably less than $5,000, less than one sixth is expected to come from union contributions. Hardly enough to warrant the charges of domination that we sometimes hear. Huron-Perth Roman Catholic separate school custodians Wednesday voted solidly against haying Local 220 of the Building Service Workers International Union act as their bargaining agent. The union applied earlier this year to the labor relations board for certification after the local secured nine signed cards favoring certification from among the 17 custodians, Murray Parson of Stratford, chairman of the local's Perth County section, said a petition was later circulated protesting the union's application and the labor relations board then or- dered a vote. Mr. Parson, accompanied by representatives from the dual- county separate school board, travelled almost 200 miles Wednesday collecting the 16 eligible votes, One custodian recently resigned. All the custodians voted against affiliation with the union. Mr. Parson, who said he worked almost a year in an at- tempt to organize the small but awkward unit, said Thursday night the union could try again in six months to organize the custodians but this would be unlikely. He said they they may be asked back in one or two years - but added this too was unlikely. Harry Hak of RR 5 Seaforth, custodian at St:James Separate needed to provide $7,000 for his own fee for six months as director, $2,100 for travel and $2,100 for promotion.
