DIARKE KENNEDY G RAND BEND Tuesday afternoon, Children's Story hour was held at the library. The idea developed from librarian Mrs. Elmer Desjardine who has been getting ideas by attending work shops sponsored by the Lambton County Library Board. Mrs. Ron Brophy of Parkhill, and who teaches school in Strathroy, showed the children slides of her trip to Point Barrow, Alaska, and Rev, E. Willis showed slides of scenery in and around Sudbury, Bob Hamilton, who assists the librarian, entertained the children with a game. Nancy Paterson read the children a story about the Eskimos, Crafts were enjoyed with Clean Clay when the children made animals of the north. SENIOR CITIZENS The Senior Citizens were en- tertained Wednesday in the United Church by the W.I. There were twenty-five present and Mrs. E. Gill welcomed the guests, A singsong was enjoyed with the singing of the old time tunes. Following this the group played games, crokinole, Chinese checkers, etc, Mrs. Alex Hamilton gave a monologue impersonating a. lonely man, sitting in his favourite chair enjoying the newspaper, elbow out of his shirt and the toes out of hiS socks; neglected because his wife was so busy .attending to the Institute. Mrs. Lloyd Baker, dressed in old- time costume read a poem en- titled, Get up and Go. The group was served lunch and Mrs. Jack Mennel thanked. the ladies for their hpspitality, The next get-te-getter for the senior citizens will be April 21 when the Orpha Club will en- tertain at the Legion Hall, The Senior Citizens have been entertained by churches and organizations of the village throughout the winter months. They now feel it is time to organize on their own. They were asked to think it over until the April meeting and decide for their future. C OF C The Grand Bend and area Chamber of Commerce met in the village hall Monday evening. Jack Mennel chaired the meeting due to the absence of the president A. Marucce, who is vacationing in Europe. The secretary presented a letter of resignation from the vice president, Ted Flint. Due to other important commitments with the Ambulance service Mr. Flint felt he .couldn't devote the time to the Chamber business, resignation was accepted with regret. Reports of committees were given and the new brochure should be ready for distribution shortly. Jack Mennel was appointed responsible for presentation of plaque for the first large boat staying overnight when the tourist season opens up. Murray Desjardine and Frank Plumb are a committee to install Beach Bench signs. Mr. Mennel reported briefly on a meeting on Tourism held in Stratford that he and Mr. Wassman had attended. BENEFIT EUCHRE The benefit euchre held last. Saturday evening sponsored by the WI was successful. Prizes were won by Mrs. R. Keyes for ladies' high score; Oscar Miller, for men's high; ladies' low, Mrs. H. Hamilton; men's low, Ed. Turnbull. Ladies' lone bands, won by Mrs. Vincent Roy; men's lone hands, Jack Turnbull; Sylvia Neeb won the special prize as she was sitting on a specially marked chair. Following the euchre a large box of groceries was Dutch auctioned and T. Myers of Zurich was the winner. A ten pound bag of sugar was won by Mrs. H. Hamilton. The cake walk created many laughs. The winners of the ap- petizing cakes were Carmen Louie, Mrs. Wm. Brenner, Mrs. R. Tiedeman, Mrs. S, Devine, Mrs. H. Hamilton. The proceeds which amounted to $50.00 will go to the Medical Centre. 4-H The 4-H girls held their sixth meeting Monday evening in the United Church with Brenda Taylor president, in the chair. Roll call was answered with, Occasions when shorts or slacks could be worn. Mrs, M. Venner demonstrated two types of zipper inserting. The girls read brochures on how to sew with knitted fabrics. Ten ladies from Staffa Women's Institute were guests of the Dublin Women's Institute at their International meeting, Tuesday evening. Karen and Steven Miller holidayed this past week with their aunt, Mrs. Rose Harris, Chiselhurst, and their grand- parents, Mr. & Mrs, Ernest Willard, Exeter. Mr. 4 Mrs. Fred Newton are home from the Sunny South. Mr. & Mrs. Murray Douglas arrived home Sunday after vacationing in Florida, Mr. & Mrs, Roy Flear returned home from Florida last Thur- sday. Mr. & Mrs. Fred Willert are home again after vacationing in Mexico. & Mrs. I, Insley, were in Toronto Saturday attending the wedding of their son. Rev. Insley officiated. The thermometer continues to rise from donations to the Medical Centre. At time of writing it reads .$19,000. At present there are four doctors interested in the clinic. Kathy and James Hutchison, London spent last week visiting their grandparents, Mr, & Mrs. Herb Hoggarth. By MRS. WILLIAM ROHDE Mr, & Mrs. Russell Morley, Exeter, visited recently with Mr. & Mrs. William Rohde. A number of people from this community attended the reception Saturday evening at the Exeter Legion Hall for Mr. & Mrs.Edwin Kerslake, newlyweds. Mr. & Mrs. William Rohde visited Thursday evening with Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Knight and Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Milton Sleamon, Exeter. Mr. & Mrs. Harold Rowe spent the weekend with the former's sister and her husband, Mr. & Mrs. Bert Brown, Windsor. Mr. & Mrs. Bev Morgan' and family visited Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Al Morgan, Sebringville. Mr. & Mrs. Bert Miner and family, Lambeth were guests Sunday with Rev. Stewart and Mrs. Miner. The Sunday School teachers met at the manse Sunday evening with Rev, Harold Dobson, Grand Bend, as speaker. Next Sunday evening the choir members and anyone interested in music will meet at the manse when Rev. R. Wilson, Centralia, will speak. The Easter thankoffering meeting of the United Church Women will be held Thursday evening with Mrs. Donald Dees, Mitchell, as guest speaker. Communion Service will be held Sunday. The reception of new members will be conducted. Mrs. Pearl Francis and Jane, Toronto, visited this past week with Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Kemp.
