Comrades, 1971 should prove to
be a most exciting year for
Lucan, this being our CEN-
TENNIAL YEAR and all
Lucanites are urged to start
thinking 'Centennial' and come
up with their ideas on how best to
celebrate this momentous oc-
casion.
Our Reeve, Comrade Ivan
Hearn, along with his council, is
calling a community meeting at
the Legion Hall for Tuesday,
March 30 at 8:00 p.m. to discuss
Lucan's Centennial and to get
the feeling of all Lucanites on
how best to celebrate it. It is
hoped that the youth of Lucan will
also become involved and make
their ideas known.
So let all Lucanites, young and
old alike, get totally involved in
Lucan's 100th birthday and
together make this occasion long
to be remembered. We can do It,
folks. For a start don't forget the
Community Centennial Meeting,
March 30 at 8: 00 p.m. sharp at the
Lucan Legion Hall. Everybody
welcome.
DAD, here's a date you must
remember — April 23— for this is
the night that you take your son to
the dinner at the annual father
and son banquet at the Legion
Hall. Here is where the
presentation of awards is made
and I understand this year a most
interesting guest speaker will be
in attendance.
All hockey players are urged to
advise their coaches as soon as
possible and let them know if they
will be attending. This is the night
your son has been waiting for,
Dad, don't disappoint him. Be
Snowmobilers
look for snow
By SUE EDGINTON
The Lucan area snowmobile
club welcomes back its president,
Cec Lewis, and his wife from
their vacation in Florida.
Although Cec was unable to
attend our Sunday run I noticed
he was out getting the feel of our
great winter's sport again, even
though there was not much snow
in Clandeboye.
The members were forced to
move out of Lucan once again in
search of snow. An enjoyable day
was had by all at Lakeside at
Wildwood Park.
After a full day of
snowmobiling the club had dinner
at a near by restaurant before
returning home to snowless
Lucan.
Remember there is a mem-
bership meeting every Wed-
nesday night at 9:00 sharp at the
Ariens room at the Shillelagh.
sure to make it a date and BRING
not SEND your son to the
banquet.
Our Midget team was put out
of the playoffs and their hockey is
over for this year. However, our
bantam anu pee wees are still in
there and go into a 2 out of 3 finals
in the Shamrock League. Why not
attend the games, folks and
support these future N.H.L.'ers.
Don't forget the draw for the
Cellerette, valued at $300.00 will
be held on March 27. Remember
the entire proceeds is for the
purchase of jackets for our
hockey and baseball teams.
One of the most important
occasions on the Legion calendar
is upon us, Comrades, and that is
the nomination and election of a
strong executive to govern your
Legion for the ensuing year. Your
next Legion meeting April 14, is
nomination meeting and it is
hoped that now having over 100
members 540 will see some new
faces on the executive.
Remember the date, comrades
April 14, 8:30 p.m. sharp. Make it
a point to attend. Then the
following meeting, May 12, will
be the election of officers. Keep
these important dates open,
Comrades. Make your wishes
known by your nomination and
ballot.
Comrade Carl O'Stuckless
(honorary Irishman) advises the
tickets for the St. Patrick's Day
celebrations to be held, Saturday,
March 20 are going real well and
to avoid disappointin' your pretty
Colleen make sartin to get in touch
with Smilin' Carl soon.
Oi 'tis shapin' up to be a loin
celebration. Rememberin' now,
we'll not be thinkin' kindly if yu
foil to check your shillelagh prior
to enterin' in on the celebratin.
Toim is runnin' out, me lads.
Don't forget now, O'Stuckless is
the only lad with tickets for sale.

of better weather in the near
future.
Former resident
passes away ,
Mrs. Emerson (Doris) Hodgins
died in Victoria Hospital, March
14, 1971. Beside her husband she
is survived by three children,
Robert, Laurel and Nancy. A
private funeral service was held
in the Evans Funeral Home with
interment in St. James
Cemetery, Clandeboye.
94th birthday
is celebrated
Mrs. B. E, Abbott, the former
Laura Elliott, celebrated her 94th
birthday in her London home, 50
Alma Street, Sunday, March 14.
Daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. William Elliott of Lucan,
Mrs. Abbott was born in Orono,
Ontrario, moving to the Lucan
district at the age of 14. She
married the late Mr. Abbott of
RR 1 Lucan in 1900, and they
made their home in Lucan until
1928 when they moved to London.
Mr. Abbott passed away in 1953.
Mrs. Abbott has one daughter,
Mrs. Howard Cranston, two'
grandchildren, and three great-
grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs.
Cranston are at present making
their home with Mrs. Abbott.
Among the many relatives and
friend's who called on Mrs. Abbott
to offer their congratulations and
best wishes, was her 84-year-old
sister, Mrs. C. W. Thompson, of
Thamesford.
In spite of her 94 years Mrs.
Abbott is still enjoying good
health and has never lost her
sense of humour.
Lions club hears
speaking champ
Lucan and District Lions Club
regular meeting was held
Monday at Holy Trinity Church
with 85 percent attendance.
The highlight of the meeting
was a talk on Enthusiasm. This
inspiring message was presented
by Diane Walker of Thorndale.
Miss Walker is the Junior
Farmers' provincial public
speaking champion. Her talk so
inspired the Lions that they went
out after the meeting and had a
successful canvass for the Red
Cross.
Miss Walker was introduced by
Mike O'Shea of Biddulph Town-
ship, who is a provincial director
of Junior Farmers. She was
thanked by Lion Rev. Bill Tupling
and presented with a clip and
certificate of appreciation.
It was also announced that the
Lucan Lions Club will be the sole
distributors in Lucan and Bid-
dulph of tickets for the Parkhill
lottery.
There were two guests present,
Paul Dykeman and Don Leitch,
both of Lucan.
In the absence of president
Gordon Brooks, vice president
Jim Shipley was in charge of the
meeting.
Learning for Lent
services continue
Learning for Lent continued in
the Lucan United Church Wed-
nesday morning with A. M.
Webster leading discussion in one
interest group on the subject of
Banking. Mr. Webster is
manager of the Lucan branch of
the Bank of Montreal.
The other interest group was
led by Ben Hoogenboom, of
Exeter Flowers, who demon-
strated the basics of flower
arrangement, for amateurs. The
two arrangements were donated
to the group. Later one was
presented to the mother present
with youngest infant in nursery —
and the other with birthday
nearest to our meeting day. Mrs.
Robert Woodward and Mrs. E.
Butchart were the winners.
The visitation and coffee break
was a time to enjoy refreshments
prepared and served by Mrs. A.
Kernick and Mrs. R. Taylor.
Mrs. J. Lockyer and Mrs. T.
Noyes were kept busy in the
infant and toddler nursery while
Mrs. G. Rees and Mrs. G.
Juergens helped older pre-
schoolers with several activities.
Mrs. R. Engel took some pic-
tures.
Mrs. W. C. Tupling continued
the study book. It now seems
evident Evangelism includes a
every large scope and is the task of
both minister and congregation,
with social service carried over
into many service clubs.
There will be no meeting on
March 24 and the final one will be
March 31.
Sunshine club
Twenty-two members of the
Sunshine Club met in the Masonic
Hall, Thursday. Five tables
played euchre. The winners of the
prizes for most lone hands were
Mr. K. Neil and Clarence Rogers.
Lunch was provided by Mr. and
Mrs. Clarence Rogers, and was
much enjoyed.
Imagin' just days remainin' till
this grand celebration!
