UNITED CHURCH
At the United Church the Rev.
W. C. Tupling continued with the
Sunday series, A Creed For To-
day.
I Believe in Jesus was his
sermon theme.
He said Jesus, the man who
lived, the man who died, and the
man who rose again, It is
precisely because Jesus was a
real man that he enables us to
live the perfect life.
ST. JAMES' ANGLICAN
CHURCH
The flowers in the church
Sunday were given to the
memory of Mrs. Petra Hen-
derson. The theme of the sermon
was the Central Purpose of the
Bible.
Mr. Carson said the central
purpose of the Bible is to in-
troduce the reader to God
through Jesus Christ. Then
having met God in the Bible the
reader is ready to meet God in
life.
Next Sunday the service of
Holy Communion will be
celebrated at 12:30 p.m. The
Sunday School will meet during
the singing of the second hymn.
Anglican Church Women will
meet at 2 p".m. March 25th in the
home of Mrs. Mary Carter. The
By BRUCE SHAW
Student Council Advisor
Last week I received a phone
call from the president of MGM
Film Corporation of Canada in
Toronto that cost the Student
Council $50,00.
Apparently someone feared
that the Student Council posed a
financial threat through com-
petition. There are two points
that should be made clear at this
time.
In the first instance, the films
cost the Student Council as much
as $150.00 or 50 percent of the
gate, whichever is greater, and
so no advantage is given the
students over theatre managers
with regard to rental fees. Also,
the films we are allowed to show
are MA first-run features; they
have been in circulation for
almost two years.
Secondly, the film program is
to be concluded with 'Butch
Cassidy and the Sundance Kid'
(being shown during the weekend
of April 17) so that theatre
managers will experience no
competition during the spring
and summer seasons.
The individual who complained
to MGM does not provide films
for almost seven months of the
year, and failed to realize that a
roll call will be answered by a
verse of scripture dealing with
goodwill. The program will be
taken by Mrs. Evelyn O'Neil.
WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
Mrs. Arthur Hodgins en-
tertained the Women's Institute
Wednesday afternoon with Mrs.
Rupert Williams assisting, Mrs,

Murray Carter met with an
accident last Monday. The lane
was filled with snow but the
department of highways opened
it up and Mr. Carter was taken
genuine need is being satisfied by
the Student Council.
The success of the films has
demonstrated that the public
wants films during the winter; in
a real sense then, the Council and
the school is providing a service
to the community!
I hope the film program in the
elementary schools won't be
jeopardize as well.
