HA (J. pougherty 548) 5 97
Last year's Ontario Hockey
Association Intermediate "B"
champs, the Lucan-Ilderton jets
find themselves in a precarious
position in their attempt to repeat
their 1969-70 feat.
After defeating the Elmira
Polar Kings in five games in the
group semi-final, the Jets are
now two games down to the
Durham Huskies in the final,
In one of their poorest team
performances of the season, the
Jets were dumped 8-4 by the
Huskies at the Huron Park
arena, Sunday afternoon.
Back in Durham, Tuesday
night, the Huskies won the second
game but this time they had their
work cut out for them. A second
period goal by Dale Rahn was the
only score until the last three
minutes of play as Wayne
Parkinson in the Jets' net was
sensational in keeping the
Durham club from running up a
much higher score.
The third game of the best-of-
seven series is slated for the
Huron Park arena, Friday night
at 8:30 with the fourth back in
Durham, Sunday afternoon at
two o'clock.
If a fifth game is necessary it
will go back at Huron Park,
Tuesday night at 8:30.
The Jets reached the final
round with a Friday night 12-5
win over Elmira to oust the
Kings. The Elmira club stayed in
contention earlier by dumping an
under-staffed Jet club 9-3 in
Elmira, Wednesday and forcing'
the fifth contest at Huron Park.
done by that time.
Dale Rahn, Butch Graham and
Chuck Niesen were the early goal
getters for Durham.
Jamie Robb started the Jets
off at 9.41 by scoring on a play
started by Larry Willert and only
two minutes later Barry Irwin
cut the Durham margin to a
single goal he registered on a
play started by Jack Nairn and
Bill Dunnell.
Rahn fired his second marker
of the contest late in the opening
session to give the Huskies a two
goal lead.
After the Jets dominated play
in the first six or seven minutes of
the second and failed to score, the
Huskies took over and notched
four consecutive goals.
Scoring the unanswered goals
for Durham were Larry
Schaefer, Jim Aitken, Jim Nixon
and Butch Graham.
In the third period, Jacques
Cousineau scored for the club
on a combination effort with
Terry Bourne and Jamie Robb.
The final goal of the game
came with less than three
minutes to go with Bill White
tallying. The assist went to
Barry Irwin.
Wayne Parkinson and Don
Stewart shared goal tending
duties for the Jets. Parkinson
started the game, was replaced
by Stewart midway through the
first period and came back to
play the last period.
A Hat Trick
Dick Doughty scored three
times to lead the Jets' 12-5 Friday
win over Elmira.
Checking in with two goals
each were Bill White and Jack
Nairn while singles went to
Jamie Robb, Larry Willert,
Larry Hossack, Jacques
Cousineau and Doug Galloway.
In the 9-3 fourth game loss to
Elmira, the Lucan-Ilderton goals
were scored by Ken Loft, Walt
Parkinson and Jamie Robb.
