July 1, Rev. Harold F, Currie of
Hensall United Church will
conclude a nine year pastorate in
the Hensall and Chiselhurst
congregations.

A bylaw ratifying the hiring of
a fire chief and the
remunerations paid to the fire
brigade was approved at Hensall
council, Friday evening.
Fire chief David Sangster will
receive $300 per annum, plus
$6.00 for each practice, $2.00 per
call, and $4.00 per hour while on a
fire call,
The deputy chief is paid $10.00
per month; captains receive $8.00
per month while firemen get
$5.00. Each receives $2.00 per call
and $3.00 per hour while on call.
The secretary receives $10.00
per month and engineers and
motor mechanics are paid $6.00.
Under a previous agreement
the, fire chief received $20.00 per

$3.00 per hour while on fire duty,
Pay to other members of the
brigade is not increased in the
new agreement.
Another bylaw was approved
which grants ,remuneration to
council and Public Utilities
commissioners. The reeve will
receive $425 per annum; the
council members and PUC
employees will be paid $329 per
annum, plus $24.00 while at-
tending conventions pertaining to
village business.
Auxiliary gives
to charities
The Legion Ladies Auxiliary
met Tuesday with President Mrs.
Vic Stan presiding,
A donation of $50.00 was made
to the Legion Auxiliary bursary
fund and $10.00 to the local
Guiding Association.
Members will canvass for the
Red Cross this month. Plans were
made for the annual Penny Sale.
A social evening will he held in
the Legion Hall, March 27.
The zone commander, Mrs.
Evelyn Carroll of Goderich, will
make her official visit.
Nominations for election of of-
ficers were held.
Mrs. W. H. Bell won the
mystery prize. Mrs. Hilda Smale
won the guessing prize, and the
attendance prize was won by
Mrs. Alice Koehler.
In other business council
agreed to purchase a 1965 model
1315 Allis Chalmers tractor,
complete with 60' hydraulic
loader and snow blower from
Hyde Brothers at a cost of $3,450,.
Ernie Davis was appointed weed
inspector for 1971; and council
agreed to send all taxes in
arrears to the county clerk for
collection.
Councillor Knight brought to
the members attention a recent
announcement of unconditional
loans from the provincial
government for park im-
provements to create em-
ployment, He suggested the
council take advantage of such a
loan to get the park cleaned up.
Council agreed that the park
needs to be drained and after
some discussion decided to get an
estimate on what this project
would •cost,
A motion to install a ten inch
drain on the north side of Queen
Street was passed.
Council was informed that a
motor had been purchased for the
old fire truck.
Ernie Davis, utility man,
reported seven dead trees had
been cut down and that the
stumps would be removed at a
later date and that three more
trash cans had been made up for
the park for the summer.
A motion was passed that the
stop sign on Elizabeth Street at
Richmond Street be changed to
Richmond Street to facilitate
employees leaving the Boise
Cascade Company.
A special meeting has been
called to meet with Ontario
Water Resources to discuss a
sewerage system for the village.
Accounts were paid in the
amount of $5,378,70 which in-
cluded Hensall's share of the
Hensall Tuckersmith drain.

Currie is a graduate of the
University of Western Ontario
and also a graduate in theology
from Emmanuel College,
Toronto. He has been active in
the past as a reserve chaplain in
the former R.C.A.F. having
served a term of 15 years.
During the past two years Mr.
Currie has been chairman of the
Huron-Perth Presbytery of the
United Church and has been
secretary of the London Con-
ference Stewardship committee
for several years,
Rev. Currie has accepted a call
to become Minister of Emmanuel
United Church, Sebringville,

Mrs. Doug Mann and Mrs, Earl
Campbell entertained at Mrs.
Mann's home Saturday afternoon
for Wendy Moir, bride-elect of
this month, at a miscellaneous
shower attended by neighbours
and friends.
The home decorated in pink
and white and the presentation
address was read by Mrs. Earl
Campbell. The gifts were
presented by Vicki Mann.
A social hour was enjoyed with
lunch served by the hostesses.
