for local man
Mr. and Mrs. Steven E.Elder
were married in Ottawa, January
30, 1971. Mrs. Elder is the former
Marguerite Brunet of Ottawa, and
Mr. Elder is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ken Elder, Hensall. The
young couple are residing in
Espanola.

Mr. Larnport does not intend to stand for re-election
Mr, Scotchmer is not seeking re-election as he has
been appointed agent to fill the position left by the
late Clarence Parke.

New structure works well
at Hensall United Church
The regular meeting of Amber
Rebekah Lodge was held
Wednesday evening with the
Noble Grand Mrs. Myrtle Taylor
presiding, assisted by the Vice
Grand Mrs. Elizabeth Riley.
It was announced the CP&T
committee are planning a
progressive euchre for the near
future.
An invitation was received
from Pride of Huron Lodge,
Exeter to attend a dessert euchre
to be held in Exeter Hall,
February 10.
Mrs. Elizabeth Riley reported
for the visiting committee and
cards of thanks and donations
were received.
Miss Russell of Goderich,
winner of the 1970 United
Nation trip, who was to be guest
speaker was unable to attend
owing to weather conditions.
The subordinate lodge and
friends were entertained to
progressive euchre as planned

The annual supper and
congregational meeting of
Hensall United Church was held
Wednesday evening.
Following the meal, served by
the UCW, Barn Rannie in his
humorous style conducted a
musical interlude with Belva Fuss
at the piano. John Blackwell
contributed several piano,
instrumental selections.
The business portion of the
evening was chaired by the
minister, Rev. Harold F. Currie,
with minutes recorded by the
clerk of the congregation,
Edison Forrest.
The life and work of the
congregation was appraised as set
forth and reviewed in the printed
annual report booklet.
During this past year the
boards of the church were
re-structured and the new official
board of elders became effective
September 1970. It was
expressed by those present that
this new structure is working well
and efficiently.
The re-structured board is as
follows: Executive, chairman,
Mr. Currie; recording steward,
Mrs. Robert Reaburn; church
treasurer, Harvey Keys; rep. to

Word has been received of the
deatha of Mrs. Louis MacKay of
Berkeley, California, who passed
away February 3. Surviving are her
husband Professor L. MacKay, a
former Hensall resident and a son,
Pierre, and a daughter, Mrs. C.
Jensen, California.

returned to the Church for their
February meeting.
Mrs. Harold Currie chaired the
meeting and gave an inspiring
devotional with the theme, A
Sense of Belonging.
Mrs. Robert Pryde favoured
with a piano interpretation of an
old hymn.
Roll call was ansered with only
10 members present due to
weather conditions.
General meeting will be
February 15, and March 31 is the
date set for the Spring Thaw
supper.
Unit II is repsonsible for
nursery and flowers for the
month of March.
February 17, the Huron-Perth
Presbyterial will be held in
Mitchell.

The proposed budget for 1971
was presented by Mrs. Jack
Drysdale chairman of the
stewardship committee and
accepted.
The possibility of installing a
new heating system in the manse
was incorporated into this
budget. During this past year the
manse was completely painted
and a new approach built to the
front church entrance.
Mrs. Robert Reaburn was
appointed clerk of the
congregation for 1971.
Appreciation to the Curries
was expressed by Mrs. Jack
Drysdale on behalf of the
congregation.
Auxiliary installs
new members
Vice president Mrs. Howard
Smale presided for the February
meeting of the Legion Ladies'
Auxiliary, February 2.
Two new members, Mrs. Harry
Klungel and Mrs. Lawrence Uyl,
were installed by past president
Mrs. Garnet Allan.
Members will canvass for the
Red Cross in March. A draw on a
hamper of Easter groceries will be
held in April, proceeds to aid the
Crippled Childrens"freatment
Centre. Mrs. Clarence Reid is
convener of this project.
Mystery prize was won by Mrs.
R. Vanstone; guessing by Mrs. J.
Randall and attendance by Mrs.
Mary Taylor.
Bingo was played and lunch
served.
Student receives
county bursary
Michael Hoy who is attending
Waterloo University received
notice this week that he had been
awarded a Huron County bursary
in the amount of $100.00.
This award is given by the
County of Huron to a student
from Huron County who is
chosen by the university where he
is attending, and is in recognition
of work done by the student.
Michael is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Hoy.

Rev. W. D. Jarvis conducted
service in Carmel Presbyterian
Church, Sunday. The flowers at
the altar were placed in memory
of the late Mrs. Alvina Sararas by
