Ask freeway to the north Exeter council this week decided to write the department of highways and the City of London to endorse the proposal that the much-discussed London freeway go to the north of the city in the Arva area. The letters will be sent on the recommendation of the planning board. Reeve Derry Boyle said he was opposed to sending the letters. He said council had no business telling another municipality where to put certain roads. "It's in bad taste," he said, adding that he would be unhappy if another community tried to tell Exeter where to construct roads. Mayor Delbridge said he couldn't see any objection to endorsing the northern route for the freeway. "The closer it is to Exeter, the happier we'll be," be said. Councillor Ken Ottewell said the freeway route could help attract industry to Exeter as it would give a more direct access to Highway 401. Boyle said it could do just the opposite as it was opening up many acres of industrial land in London.
