NEW SEVENTEEN BOOK
OF ETIQUETTE AND YOUNG
LIVING, by E. Haupt. — Former
editor of Seventeen Magazine and
a firm believer in youth, assumes
that young people will want
detailed guidelines not only for
conventional life situations —
dating, friendship, school, but
that girls will want to be treated
as equals and be accepted as
organizers of outside activities as
workers and thinkers.
GENTLEMEN, PLAYERS &
POLITICIANS, by Dalton Camp.
— Dalton Camp, well-known
Canadian political strategist,
covers in this memoir, the period
from his initial involvement in
New Brunswick politics in 1948
to the successful completion of
the first Diefenbaker campaign in
1957. It is a startlingly frank and
colourful record of our politics
and the men who seek to govern
us. Those who have already read
generous quotes from the book in
the press will welcome the
complete works.
VANCOUVER, by Eric Nicol
— Eric Nicol who has entertained
us with his good natured books of
humour here presents an
affectionate history of the city he
chose to make his home.
Vancouver, "the Riviera of
Canada" "The Gateway to the
Orient" is a scenic mixture of
mountains and sea which
continues to charm visitors.
PENNY CANDY, by Jean
Kerr, — The author of Please
Don't Eat the Daisies and The
Snake has all the Lines has put
together a new collection of
fifteen "funny pieces". Her
reflections cover such subjects as:
Partying is such sweet sorrow; I
saw Mummy kicking Santa Claus;
Marriage, unsafe at any speed.
MOSQUITO, by Joe Holliday.
— Here is the story of the wooden
wonder aircraft of World War II,
how the tiny Toronto Branch of
the de Havilland Company was
turned into a huge plant turning
out hundreds of these aircraft.
For years the fastest airplane in
the war, the Mosquito had an
incredible record. It was the
fighter that escorted the Dam
Buster bombers; it was the
bomber that destroyed the
Gestapo prison at Arriiens; it was
the reconnaissance plane that
located the German rocket
installations at Peenemu ride.
MOSQUITO is a tribute to a
heroic aircraft and the heroic Men
who flew her.

Ask freeway
to the north
Exeter council this week
decided to write the department
of highways and the City of
London to endorse the proposal
that the much-discussed London
freeway go to the north of the
city in the Arva area.
The letters will be sent on the
recommendation of the planning
board.
Reeve Derry Boyle said he was
opposed to sending the letters. He
said council had no business
telling another municipality
where to put certain roads. "It's
in bad taste," he said, adding that
he would be unhappy if another
community tried to tell Exeter
where to construct roads.
Mayor Delbridge said he
couldn't see any objection to
endorsing the northern route for
the freeway. "The closer it is to
Exeter, the happier we'll be," be
said.
Councillor Ken Ottewell said
the freeway route could help
attract industry to Exeter as it
would give a more direct access to
Highway 401.
Boyle said it could do just the
opposite as it was opening up
many acres of industrial land in
London.
