The pH Lotion is for (I hate to
admit it) aging skin. Normal skin
has a pH level of about 5.5, that, is
slightly acid. Young skin has the
ability to re-adjust its pH to a
normal level, but older skin can't
make it back home again on its
own and becomes dry, tired and
wrinkled. According to the book
our old skin just yearns for pH
lotion to do the job of
maintaining the normal pH level,
In case you're interested I'll
share these two recipes with you
but if you want to make up some
of the other exotic creams and
lotions you'll have to get the
book from the library yourself.
A suggestion would be that
you get a friend or neighbor
interested in making up a batch,
too. Then, you can share the cost
of the ingredients. Also, follow
the directions precisely.
GOLDEN GLOVE BATH OIL
1 whole egg
'A cup sesame oil
(or safflower oil)
1 tsp. liquid
dishwashing detergent
2 tbsp. 70% isopropyl
rubbing alcohol
1/4 cup milk
1/4 tsp. orange or lemon
extract or perfume
of your own choice.
Using medium speed of
electric mixer beat the egg and oil
together until smooth. Slowly
add the detergent while you
continue beating. Now very
slowly add the alcohol, and• then
the milk (a bit difficult to work
in, but keep beating). Next work
in the extract or perfume, Makes
over a cupful.
Pour into a wide necked
bottle. In a few hours it sets up to
a thick lotion or light cream. If it
becomes too thick to pour hold
under hot running water for a few
minutes.

LEMON pH LOTION
1 tsp. dry pectin
2 tsp. glycerine
1 tsp. solid vegetable
shortening
1/4 cup fresh lemon
juice
1/ cup plus 2 tbsp.
water
1 drop yellow food
coloring
1/4 tsp. lemon flavoring
(the book suggests apricot
but I didn't have any).
Measure shortening and
glycerine into a small enamel or
pyrex pot and melt together over
hot water. Then work in the
pectin using electric beater on
low.
Meanwhile heat the water and
lemon juice until they reach a
simmer, then slowly add them a
little at a time, to the oil phase,
beating constantly.
Remove from heat, and let
cool. Stir your mixture by hand
every now and then just to make
sure it doesn't separate.
When cool, put into a pretty
bottle, add food coloring and
extract and shake well. Store in

Double ring wedding at
Trivitt Memorial Church
Trivitt Memorial Anglican
Church was the setting for the
marriage of Marie Ellen Langford
and Edwin Stewart Nethercott,
January 16, 1971, with the Rev.
George Anderson officiating at
the double ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. & Mrs. Ross Langford,
Exeter, and the groom's parents
are Mr. & Mrs. Stewart
Nethercott of Dorchester.
Given in marriage by her
father the bride wore a traditional
gown of white cut velvet, styled
with empire waist, pearl applique
trimming, and matching train.
The ensemble was completed by a
shoulder length veil. She carried a
white Bible covered with a white
orchid, ferns and ivy.
Nancy Cobleigh was maid of
honor for her cousin and wore a
dress in a style similar to the
bride's.
Bridesmaids were Mrs. Janet
Rastin, Mount Brydges, Rosallie
Day, Hensall, and Sharon
Cobleigh, Detroit. They wore
empire dresses of silver brocade
with blue highlights, and carried
nosegays of white and yellow
roses with mums.
Daniel Nethercott was his
brother's best man and the ushers
were Clifford Langford, Exeter,
Jerry Rastin, Mount Brydges, and
Gary Nethercott, London.
Following the ceremony a
reception was held in the church
hall with the guests returning to
the bride's parents' home to view
the gifts.
For travelling the bride chose a
lime green dress with black
accessories.
The couple now reside in
London, Ontario.
The Christian Reform Church
held their regular monthly song
service in the Auditorium last
Sunday evening.
The old time music and
dancing last Monday included a
Scotch program in honor of
Robbie Burns' birthday. During
the first part of the afternoon the
Huronview orchestra played
Scotch dance music with the
residents taking part in the
dances. A variety program
rounded out the afternoon with a
Scottish reading by Cassie
Dougall, a solo by John Eeming,
and the orchestra leading a sing
song of Scottish numbers.
Owing to the blizzard last
week the program scheduled for
Wednesday afternoon and
Thursday evening were
postponed.
Tuesday evening the
Huronview orchestra assisted by
Adam Wilson entertained the
staff members who were storm

Those of us who were
fortunate enough not to be
stranded out in "The Storm" last
Week could only thank our lucky
stars that we were warm, safe and
comfortable and not suffering the
same plight as the many cases we
heard about on Bill Brady's Open
Line,
In fact, it was a kind of a nice
cozy feeling to be snug in your
awn house, shut off from the
World, while the storm raged
without, and since there was no
place to go you began to look for
things to keep you occupied.
For the first time in three
years I sat down and did some
fancy needlework. I so enjoyed it
that I completed one piece and
got another one started.
We also had time to join our
neighbors in some lively games of
euchre a couple of evenings. It
had been so long since I'd played
that it was like learning all over
again, but by the end of the
second night I was feeling cocky
enough to take on the experts.
Another afternoon I cooked
up a storm myself, but not the
usual kind.
It all came about from a book I
had out from the library called,
"Here's Egg On Your Face" by
Beatrice 'haven. She, along with
Dr. Ferenc Tibor, a famed
cosmetic chemist, compiled this
publication which is filled with
recipes to create elegant
cosmetics in your own home.
To quote from the book:
"Using pots and pans,
eyedroppers, a pallet knife,
electric 'hand mixer, measuring
spoons and cups, you can whip up
cosmetics equal or superior to
those you'd buy at atrocious
prices. . .and they'll be custom
made to suit you and only you."
The book contains
concoctions for everything from
colognes, shampoos and suntan
lotions to moisturizing creams,
masks, deodorants and foot
powder.
I made up two I was especially
interested in: Golden Glove Bath
Oil and Lemon pH Skin Lotion.
The bath oil intrigued me
because by this time of winter my
legs and arms get pretty
sandpapery, and while there are
some marvellous bath oils on the
market they are oh, so expensive.
The Golden Glove Bath Oil is
inexpensive, simple to make and
leaves the skin beautifully
smooth. I sent some over to a
neighbor who let her little boy try
it, too. His delightful comment
was, "Gosh, Mom, it makes me
feel like glass."
For those of you who decide
to make it I must tell you it
creates no bubbling effect in the
water, but since it is emulsified
the oil is distributed throughout

PUPILS DONATE TO CHILDREN'S WARD — Exeter Public School students collected $235.00 at
Christmas to be used in the children's ward of South Huron Hospital. This week some pupils visited the
hospital to see what their money had been spent on. Mikel Ward, Ian Doidge, Heather Wein and Charlene
Tuckey hold some of the toys and pictures, and Miss Alice Claypole shows the portable television set that
was also purchased with their donation.
