In 1970, 280 books were received in response to such queries. New point system for Explorers Lucan-Clandeboye Explorers held an Expedition, Monday last, with 31 girls present. Comrades, it becomes quite evident as time passes that collectively we can accomplish much more than if we try it alone. Here it is, Comrades, over twenty-five years since the cessation of hostilities and Veterans' Organizations banded together are still getting important legislation through the House. Legion members keep abreast of what is happening through their National Magazine, Legion. Unfortunately there are still ex-service personnel who are eligible for Legion membership that are complacent, with the attitude "I am only one, what does it matter if I am a member or not?" Let me tell you, Comrade there are three hundred thousand reasons. If the three hundred thousand members of the Royal Canadian Legion in Canada had the same attitude, I fear the memory of our Fallen would soon be forgotten, the lot of their widow and orphan would soon deteriorate and what would happen to the many thousands still suffering and hospitalized as a result of wounds. Yes, Comrade, you may be only one, but a most important one when your voice is combined with the many thousands, Comrades, who have already joined. Imagine the voice we would have with the Government if we spoke with 600,000 voices. Your Legion is one of the most important organizations in your community, for we have expanded beyond just service to the veteran, into community functions and now, generally speaking, sponsor track and field, baseball, hockey, public speaking, essay contests, majorettes, bursaries, senior citizen housing and many many more. Yes, Comrade I am proud to be part of such a versatile organization as the Legion. How about you, are you a Member? HELP — Comrades, your assistance is requested at Comrade Roy Hodgins' farm, Sunday, February 7 at 2:00 p.m. The reason — 540's second annual Children's Skidoo Party. This is a worthwhile program and teaches the safe, sane operation of snow vehicles to the, children while they are also enjoying themselves. Incidentally this party is for all children and there is no charge. Compliments of your Lucan Legion and the snow vehicle owners. Just imagine, there is still Rev. W. C. Tupling's sermon at last Sunday morning's service at Lucan United Church, was entitled, "Called To Be". The Second Lesson was read by Janice Abbott. Welcomed to the congregation were Mrs. Stanley DeVree, Mrs. James Curtis and Mr. and Mrs. Archie Sinclair. Received into the Church by the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, were Cathleen Elizabeth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Curtis and Stephen Robert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Woodward. Confirmation classes will commence February 7 at 7 p.m. at the Church. All young people 13 years and over, who have not yet joined the Church, are eligible to attend. Friday next the Third Year Intermediate Sunday School Class are having a party open to all teen-agers. UC ELECTS OFFICERS The annual congregational meeting of Lucan United Church was held in the C. E. Building, Thursday last. Rev. W. C. Tupling took the chair and opened with a short worship service. The nominatingcommittee reported the appointment of officers for 1971. Members of Session are J. Alex Young, C. G. Lewis, Alden Walker, Torn Barr, Don Maguire, Don Abbott, G. H. something that is free. Comrades, we urge you to support 540's draw on a $300.00 cellarette. The draw will be made on March 27, and the entire proceeds is to provide jackets for the Legion sponsored minor hockey and baseball teams. It would appear that Movies are in — Yes, sir by the response Saturday night it would appear that many remember their ex-service days and enjoyed reliving the old times once again. Carl our Smilin' Newfie says 'Be the Lard Liftin' were having movies once a month." Comrades you will be advised in plenty of time the date and title of the next showing. Zone A5 Meeting will be held at the Ilderton Legion Hall, Thursday, February 18. This will take the form of a dinner meeting Comrades — Dinner will be served at 7:00 followed by the zone meeting at 8:30 p.m. This is a most important meeting for it will be here you will be electing the officers which will guide the affairs of your zone for the next two years. Make it a point to attend. The presentation of awards to the 540 Tuesday night Branch mixed sports winners will be held, February 27 in the Memorial Legion Hall. A smorgasbord will be served at 7:00 p.m. follo'wed by the presentation of awards and winding up with dancing to the music of the Country Tones. Our good friend `Molsons' Denny Riggin will be with us. There will be a moderate charge to assist defray the cost of the evening. Comrade, Smilin' Carl advises there are stilt a few 1971 membership cards at the bar. We are 100% paid up for 71 — check your membership card now — if it's not for 71 then your card will be at the bar. Something to plan ahead for Comrades. On March 6 a dart tournament for mixed doubles will be held at the Delhi Legion commencing at 12:00 noon. Energetic Harvey Hillman is trying to get a bus load lined up to make the trip. If you are interested just place your name on the list posted in the lounge or phone Carl. By popular demand, Fiddlin' Jimmy Young will be returning to the Sea, Land and Air Lounge to entertain you, Saturday, January 30. Dates to remember: Every Thursday night is Auxiliary bingo. Paul, C.
