Last week saw the Irish
match the pros in the number of
games played, four games in five
nights. Final outcome was four
points for the Irish.
In Mitchell on Tuesday, the
19th the home team beat Lucan
by a two goal margin in a slow
moving game before only a
dozen Mitchell fans.
In the first period Allen
Kraul, Gord Hardy and Tom
Hodgins scored for Lucan and
Don Nicholson and Jim Rolf for
Mitchell., The second period saw
Dennis Carty of Lucan and Dave
Nicholson and Bob Carnochan
of Mitchell score.
In the third period Tom
Hodgins was the lone marksman
for Lucan getting his second goal
of the night while Dave
Nicholson, Jim Rolph and Don
Hislop scored for the Mitchell
Hawks. Bruce Maslen played
well for Lucan in goal.
The following night Lucan
beat Lambeth by a 6.2 score.
Tom Hodgins scored three goals
in the first period with Dennis
Carty getting one goal. Gregg
Steeles and Dave Brooks scored
for Lambeth.
There was no scoring in the
second period and Dave
Revington and Jim Hearn scored
in the third for the home team.
Lucan outshot Lambeth 36 to
30.
Friday night after only one
night's rest Lucan travelled to
Lambeth and once again proved

SHOULD BE LOTS OF JOBS — Members of the Exeter Toc Alpha committee posed for a picture Monday
afternoon to show they are looking for snow shoveling jobs. After Tuesday's blizzard they should be
swamped with work. From the left they are Bob Read, Bev Finnen and Richard Ottewell. Anyone needing
their services should call 235-0935. T-A photo
winning by a 3.2 score, Tom
Hodgins, Jim Hearn and Dennis
Carty scored one each for Lucan
while Randy Elrich and Gary
Comfort scored for the losers.
John McLean was in goal for
Lucan.
"Those lazy kids," adults
often moan, "they don't want to
do any work."
Well, there are a group of
teenage kids in Exeter who are
dying to work if adults will give
them a chance. They're the Toc
Alpha group who want to raise
money to help with he
conference they plan for Exeter
the latter part of May.
Spokesman for the
committee, Richard Ottewell,
said the group had turned down
the idea of a walkathon because
"walkathons are
uncreative and we would pretty
raise money by giving a service
to people."
His young cohorts say, "no
job is too menial." They'll
shovel snow, clean out
basements or attics, cart garbage
to the dump, or wash cars, You
name the job ... they'll do it.
For young mothers looking
for a little free time, these kids
will be glad to entertain your
children either in your home or
at the Exeter United Church,
Saturday. For a fee, of course.
"Right now we need money
for basic things like stationery,
postage and advertising for the
conference," they say.
Invitations will be sent across
the province inviting other
young people to attend.
The committee is anxious
that it will be a "well run

'conference so that the people of
this town will support us and
respect our views."
Many people equate Too
Alpha conferences with talk-ins
on drugs and alcohol and while
there will likely be a seminar on
these subjects the main purpose
of the Exeter conference will be
to meet, get to know, and learn
about other people.
The theme will be, "The
Stranger is a Friend You Haven't
Met Yet," and will stress the
need of being aware of the
feelings and expressions of other
people regardless of age, sex,
color, creed or nationality.
The local Too Alpha group
was formed in 1970 and held the
first conference in this area last
May. They are not affiliated
with any church but hold their
meetings in Exeter United
Church, Members range in age
from 15 years and up.
They're excited about one
job they've got lined up. Rev.
Glen Wright has hired them to
move him and his family into
the new United Church manse
next month.
But they're willing and able
to tackle a great deal more work.
Too bad not to take advantage
of their enthusiasm. What kind
of chores can you rustle up for
them? Phone Richard Ottewell,
235.0935, or Exeter United
Church, 235-0860, Saturday.
Saturday night a limping Irish
club travelled to Belmont and
absorbed a 4-1 beating. Lucan's
only goal was scored at 16:07 of
the third period by Doug Rosser.
Brian Abbey, Doug Hepburn, Ed
Landon and John Wilisey scored
for the Sunsets.
Bruce Maslen was in goal for
Lucan. Missing from the line-up
were Jack Bradley, Brad Barclay
and Jim Macklem who were out
with the flu and Allen Kraul and
Gord Hardy who were injured in
Lambeth the night before.
Coach McFalls called up two
midgets for the game, Brad
English and Ed Legg who both
showed promise as future Irish
Six players.
It was unfortunate for the
Irish that these games were
played so close together as
Lucan at the time of writing are
tied with Tavistock for third
place.
The top seven point getters
for Lucan are G A Pts.

Last night Mitchell Hawks
were in Lucan for a game and on
Saturday night Lucan meets the
Exeter Hawks in Exeter then
again in Lucan on Sunday, game
time 2 p.m. while next
Wednesday Lucan completes the
regular season with a game
against Belmont.
Be an Irish fan, pick up your
booster button and come out
and cheer the exciting Irish into
the playoffs.
