The January meeting of the
Kippen East Women's Institute
was held last Wednesday with a
noon pot luck dinner. Each
member invited a guest.
President Mrs. Robt, Bell
presided and the roll call was
answered by, "my latest quarrel
with my husband."
This was an every member
program in which each member
contributed a number and the
guests were invited to join in.
Poems were given by Mrs. G. Bell,

Mrs. Archie Hoggarth, Mrs. E.
Whitehouse, Mrs. D. Brodie, and
Mrs. C. Eyre.
Readings were read by Mrs. J.
Drummond, Mrs. D. Triebner,
Mrs. R. Simpson, Mrs. Adams,
Mrs. A Finlayson and Mrs. S.
Pepper. A piano solo was played
• by Mrs. Robt. Kimsman. A dance
number, The Barn Dance, by Mrs.
H. Caldwell and Mrs. W. Bell and
the Highland Schottische by Mrs.
R. Broadfoot.
Instructions were given on
how to sew a lining in a dress by
Mrs. Charles Eyre. A Tiny Tim
version of "Tiptoe Thru the
Tulips" by Mrs. Al Hoggarth and
a skit, Sales Resistance, by Mrs.
M. Connolly, Mrs. V, Alderdice
and Mrs. R. Bell. Sing-songs were

Mrs. W. K. Winsor has returned
home to Toronto after visiting
her sister-in-law Mrs. Ivan Kipfer,
and brother and sister-in-law, Mr.

Exeter.
Mrs. Geo. Parker is confined to
her home following an 'attack of
influenza.

was read giving a financial

Final arrangements were
made for the 22nd birthday
party to be held February 3,
when members of the IOOF are
to be guests.
The entertainment committee
in charge are Mrs. Pearl Eyre,
Mrs. pertha MacGregor, Mrs.
Leona Parke. Social committee
in charge are Mrs. Myrtle Orr,
the General. Council of the United
Church of Canada being held in
Niagara Falls from January 25 to
February 2.
This is the highest court of the
United Church which assembles
only once every two years, to
elect a new Moderator, set policy,
and transact business affecting
the United Church across Canada.

January 19 the Hensall United
Church Women held an executive
meeting when they made
arrangements for the
W.I. entertain
at Huronview
The monthly birthday party at
Huronview was held Wednesday
with a full auditorium. The one
hour program was in charge of the
auxiliary executive.
President Mrs. M. Sutcliffe of
Goderich presided. Twenty seven
residents were honored with gifts.
Two numbers from Hensall W.I.
were presented by Mrs. W. Dilling
and Mrs. T. J. Sherritt. Miss Greta
Lammie also gave a piano
instrumental. Mrs. J. McAllister
and Mrs. R. M. Peck also
attended. A social hour was
enjoyed with the residents.

Election of officers was held
with the following results: new

Nancey Taylor; treasurer, Shiela
Butchard; card and gift fund,
Audrey Scott.
It was decided to have a bake
sale February 6 at Ross Holden's
and to have two court whist
parties, one March 5, and the
other April 2.
Over coffee and donuts our
special guests showed their
extraordinary slides from a trip to
South America.

Arnold Lewis' 25th anniversary
was held at the home of Mr. &

ANGLICAN CHURCH
Sunday, Rev. R. A. Carson
preached on, the foundation of
Huron College. As early as 1791
John Graves Simcoe predicted a
high class College which taught
principles and manners would be
built in the centre of the
penninsula made by Lakes
Huron, Ontario and Erie. This
school was established in 1863.
Isaac Hellmuth was the first
principal and he did much to
obtain a sound financial structure
for the college. Today, seven
principals later, Huron College is
both an arts and divinity school
with a staff of over 50 and almost
600 students.
Mr. Carson asked the
congregation to give financial
support to Huron College
through the Diocese of Huron
budget.
Thursday, the Anglican
Church Women of St. James
Church will meet at 7:00 p.m. in
the home of Mrs. Wilfred
Cunningham.
Sunday, which is the 4th
Sunday after Epiphany, evening
prayer and Sunday School will be
held at 12:30 p.m.

Rev. W. W. Tupling said
Christians are called to be a
redemptive community doing the
work of Christ on earth.
PERSONALS
Mr. & Mrs. Sam Taylor took
their son, Scott, age 7 to St.
Joseph's Hospital, London, for a
check-up recently. Later, he was
able to return home.
Mrs. David Kestle was hostess
at the U.C.W. meeting. Mrs.
Rupert Williams is the president.
Mrs. Arnold Blake took the
devotions. Next meeting will be
held February 2, at the home of
Mrs. Rupert Williams. Mrs. Alex
Ma c I n tosh will take the
devotions.

entertained for the birthday of
two year old Lisa Carter. Guests
were Stephen and Kevin and

clothing could leave it at the
church.
The annual United Church
congregational supper will be
held in Hensall United Church,
Wednesday. Supper to commence
at 6:30 p.m. followed by a short
business meeting and program.
UNITED CHURCH
The outreach committee of
Hensall United Church are in
charge of a special service
Sunday. Rev. Alfred McAlister,
Thornhill, will be guest speaker.
Mr. McAlister won recognition
when he organized visits between
the young people of his church
and a church in Harlem, New
York. He has also visited war torn
Nigeria.
ANGLICAN
The Rev. G. A. Anderson was
in charge of the morning service
at St. Paul's Anglican church
when the theme of the sermon
was, Is Prayer Necessary.
Flowers were in memory of
the late Mrs. Milton Russell.
January 31, service will be
held at 7:00 p.m. followed by the
annual vestry meeting.
