CHRISTMAS MORNING
By JOHANNA ENGEL
Biddulph Central
Christmas morning dawned
crisp, cold, and still, perfectly
according to Piper. Four brown
sparrows sat on the front porch
hoping for some pieces of bread.
Piper sleepily opened one eye
to look at her clock. Ten already!
She'd never slept in this long on
Christmas morning.
She smiled at the thought of
all those excited children
gathered under their Christmas
trees ripping open their presents.
Piper knew the real meaning of
Christmas, and she thought about
the holy child.
Interrupting her line of
thought came her mother's shrill
call, "Piper, get up! It's time for
church.
She jumped out of bed and got
ready. Piper walked slowly to
church. The white, sparkling
snowflakes fell lightly to the
ground. It gave her a feeling of
happiness and contentment.
"Peace on earth, goodwill to all
men."
WHAT CHRISTMAS MEANS
TO ME
By DAVID BELL
Exeter PS
It means to me that it is a
time we should be thankful for
when Jesus was born, for the
good times we have on
Christmas, and the goodness of
giving presents to other people.
Then Christmas is over and
everyone is happy.

CHRISTMAS DREAM
By JOHN VAN GERWEN
Grade 7 — Precious Blood
I awoke. A sudden feeling
overcame me but I couldn't
quite determine what it was.
Then it dawned on me; today
was Christmas. Hurriedly I
dashed downstairs but no one
was there. A feeling of fear
overcame me. But why was I
scared? Everything seemed
normal, '
The stockings were all hung
up in the right order and the tree
was in the same place but a
feeling of loneliness seemed to
be in the air. I looked out the
window. I could see nothing but
snow and a distant horizon!
"What happened to the town I
once lived in?" I gasped in
disbelief. It was all too much for
me so I decided to investigate.
Rather frigidly I opened the
door leading outside. I walked
slowly around the house_ and
there coming towards me 'was a
line of creatures with lazars.
Then they-all.cocked their guns.
I stood there frozen and
then,,
1(D -in, wake up," ' I heard, Itf.
was Mom.
What a dream!
SANTA CLAUS
IN THE YEAR 2000
By LARRY JOHNS
Santa Claus will have a new
moterized Ford reindeer snow
cart, that will carry two times as
many toys as his old slight.
It will have one track under
neath the cart for fast landings on
the roofs. The glass covering over
the driver will help him stay warm
on stormy Christmas eve's.
All though he is wearing his
electric suit that he plugs into the
cart to keep him warm, there is
one thing wrong with this
wonderful machine, it keeps
geting hijacked to Cuba.
Santa Claus will have his beard
shaved off. Wearing a black suit,
with bell bottoms pants. With a
pink shirt and a red tie, and a felt
hat. He will still say Ho, Ho, Ho, I
wish you a merry Christmas.
ORIGIN OF CHRISTMAS
AND SANTA CLAUS
By PAUL MOHR
Exeter P.S.
It happened in the fourth
century in the Asia Minor. A
bishop whoes name was St.
Nicholas was famous for his acts
of charity. He gave hags of gold to
a poor man's daughter who
wanted to get married. The
custom was for the father of the
bride to give the groom a sum of
money.
After the two older girls got
married the younger one put up a
stocking for the money her father
needed.This is howthe hanging of
the stocking might have came
from, Time went by and now we
give gifts instead of money.
WHAT CHRISTMAS MEANS
TO ME
By ANN DEARING
Stephen Central
To me Christmas means a
happy time when gifts are given
and received. • When people get
together for a big Christmas
dinner. When Christmas morning
comes and children, parents, and
grandparents open their presents
and get just what they wanted.
Singing Christmas carols with
your friends. Sending Christmas
cards and making people happy
for remembering them. That is
what Christmas means to me.
TALE OF OLD
By KIM TURNER
Grade 6 - Exeter P.S.

• TREES
By DAVID TAYLOR
Grade 7 - McCurdy P.S.
The leaves are gone, and the trees
are bare,
Soon Jack Frost will have
snowflakes,there.
Have you ever looked at them on
a winter night?
They look so pretty in the pale
moon light.
Spring will come and change the
scene
They look so lovely in their coats
of green
The birds will come in the early
spring
Building their nests while they
sweetly sing.
Then comes summer and
blossoms white,
The same silvery look as a winter
night
Sit still and listen to the busy bee
hum
Gathering honey in the warm
noon sun.
Along comes autum with its
colours bright
It really is an artist's delight.
Then a little later comes the
smokey air,
. And then again the trees are bare.
OUT IN THE COLD
By JANICE MacDONALD
Grade 4 —Stephen Central
"Hi" here I am standing in this
cold. I wish someone would take
me into their warm house. Who is
that coming toward me with that
axe?
`OUCH' somebody cut me
down BANG down I go. Where
am going? I am riding on this
whatever it is. Why are we
stopping So soon? Where am I? It
is so warm in here.
I know where I am. I am in a
house. Now I am being decorated.
Now I feel so elegant. Can you
guess who lam?
Givin4 gifts

PY AGNES VAN ESBROECK
Grade 8 — Precious Blood
What is Christmas? The
yearly festival (December 25). In
honour of the birth of Christ.
That is the dictionary meaning
and it is undoubtedly correct,
Is that what Christmas means,
to you? Does it mean buying
and receiving gifts or does it
mean a big celebration with
turkey and all the trimmings? If
it does you should stop and
realize why we celebrate
Christmas.
A long time ago. in a cave near
the town of Bethlehem the
Christ child was born. In
remembrance of his coming we
celebrate the feast of Christmas.
It was for this reason that we
made the holiday, so naturally
that is why we should keep it.
Giving gifts is a good way of
showing our love for one
another but we must not let this
idea of Christmas dominate our
minds, We can also show our
love for the human race by
thinking of the poor people in
other countries of the casterp
world.
We can send the money that
we use for our own pleasure to
organizations that help those
unlucky people so that they may
have decent food to eat and
clothes to wear at the time when
the westernworld is rejoicing and
festive.
NO ONE THINKS OF THE
REAL MEANING!
By LOIS ELLIOTT
J.A.D. McCurdy
Christmas has changed a lot in
the last years. Everyone puts up
all sorts of Christmas decorations
to try to get first prize.
They decorate their trees with
tinsel, lights, and bulbs. People
buy presents to give. Everything.
goes commercial even T. V.
No one ever stops to think of
the real meaning of Christmas.
That wise men came from far
away to bring gifts for the Christ
baby that was born that day.
THE SNOW FELL SOFTLY
By DEBBIE HILLMAN
Grade 8 — J.A.D. McCurdy
The snow fell softly through the
night
Inch by inch gaining height
As I dreamed of fairies and kings
Little did I know what the day
would bring.
The valley had turned from green
to white,
The world was covered by a
blanket
How had the area changed
overnight?
How had my wish been granted?
Dear Santa Claus,
I will like a Beautiful Christy
I will leave you some coke
I hope the crippled people get
better
