THE DERBY DIP Closed Until the First Weekend In February • Winners of the $1,657 worth of merchandise offered by the Exeter Board of Trade Pic-A-Prize were drawn this week. Each of the 30 winners was asked to list the order he would choose the prizes. The winners' names were then placed in a box and drawn out to determine the order in which they received prizes. Due to the variety of choices they had indicated, several of the 30 received their top choice and even some of the final names drawn out received their fifth or sixth choice. The final six winners who became eligible Monday were: Murray Coward, Woodham; William Dougall, Exeter; Mrs. Cecil Pepper, Hensall; Sandra Munn, Hensall; Albena Bedard, Zurich; and Mrs. Olive Thomson, Exeter. Winners may claim their prizes by properly identifying themselves at the store from which their prize was awarded. Because merchants have not been notified of the winners, it would be best to take a copy of the list. The gavel will be presented the outgoing chairman at the conclusion of his term of office and a plaque will be provided which is engraved with the name of the chairman and years he served as chairman of the Board. An information report presented to the board at the meeting dealt with the question of school libraries. In connection with the report, the following recommendations were made by J. W. Coulter, superintendent of Program and Planning: 1. All schools should have libraries; 2. Shelves should be "weeded" of surplus copies; 3. Filmstrips should be as readily available as books, for pupils' use; 4. More emphasis on use of facilities by individuals and small groups on an informal basis; 5. Instruction and practice in the use of materials by the pupils in preparing reports. "I am generally pleased with the progress we have made but several improvements remain as a challenge to us," concluded Coulter.
