attended Explorers C.O.C.
mission program, December 16
held in Knox Presbyterian
Church, Goderich. Consultant
was Miss Lily MacArthur retired
National Children's Secretary of
Canada. All the ladies of these
two groups were present
including parents and friends.
Those accompanying Mrs.
Schwalm to Goderich were Mrs.
M. Harburn, Mrs. A. Miller of
Hensall and Mrs. Ken Breakey,
Zurich.
Patients in South Huron
Hospital, Blue Water Rest Home,
Huronview, Queensway Nursing
Home shut-ins in the village had
their day brightened on Sunday
with gifts of poinsettias, project
of the CP & T committee of
Amber, IOOF'Lodges of Hensall.
Mr, & Mrs. Laird Mickle, Mr. &
Mrs. Wm. Mickle, Pamela, Judith
and John, Mrs. Florence Joynt,
Mr. & Mrs. Robert Mickle,
London, Charles Mickle,
Hamilton, Ann Mickle, Toronto,
are spending Christmas with the
former's daughter and son-in-law,
Mr. & Mrs. Ross MacMillan and
family, Waterloo.
Alfred Smith is a patient in St.
Joseph's hospital, London, with a
fractured ankle he sustained in a
fall Thursday night.
The Christmas eve
communion will be held at St.
Paul's Anglican Church, 9 p.m.
Mrs. S. B. Taylor of Exeter
visited over the weekend with her
son-in-law and daughter, Mr. &
Mrs. Don Mousseau.
Christmas services were well
attended in Carmel Presbyterian
Church, Sunday. The service of
nine lessons and carols was
conducted by Rev. W, D. Jarvis,
who delivered a message, A
Saviour is Born.
The choir under the direction
of Mrs. Malcolm Dougall was
assisted by the managers of the
church, and members of the
Sunday School. Rev. S. Kerr will
be in charge of the service next
Sunday.
The ladies of Carmel
Presbyterian Church, Hensall
packed twenty-four Christmas
cheer boxes for the sick and
shut-ins of the church. Mrs.
Harvey Hyde, Mrs. Clarence
Volland, Mrs. Percy Campbell,
Mrs. Melvin Glanville, Mrs. Grace
McEwen, Mrs. Myrtle Dick, Mrs.
Glenn Bell and Mrs. R. A. On
were in charge of the packing.
Folk enjoy
annual tour
Forty-five elderly citizens
enjoyed a happy evening
Thursday night when the Hensall
Kinsmen Club took them on a
tour of Hensall, Exeter and
surrounding coinmunities to view
the Christmas decorations.
Following the tour they were
entertained at Hensall Public
School by the Rhythm Boys
comprised of Nelson Howe and
Fred Harburn on the violins,
Oliver Jaques on the drums,
Aubrey Gaiser on the banjo and
Mrs. Jory at the piano. Films were
also enjoyed and lunch was
served.
Special services
at United church
Christmas services were well
attended at Hensall United
Church. At the morning service
the senior and junior choirs
blended their voices for the
Christmas music under the
direction of Mrs. Jack Turkheim,
organist and choir director. Rev.
Harold F. Currie spoke on the
theme "Christmas!"
Mr. & Mrs. Thomas A.
Dalrymple presented their son
Jeffrey Thomas for the
sacrament of infant baptism.
In the evening a Christmas
carol Service was presented,
conducted by William L. Mickle,
chairman of the worship and
membership committee 'of the
congregation'. He was assisted by
the minister Rev. Currie and the
following members of the
congregation, John Blackwell,
Edison Forrest, Michael Veal,
Mrs. Jack Drysda18, Bill
Rowcliffe, Mrs. Ian McAllister,
Walter Spencer and Robert
Reaburn.
Christmas music was
presented by the senior and
junior choirs. The church was
decorated for the Christmas
season by the United Church
Women. Memorial flowers were
placed in memory of Mrs.
Harvey (Lucille Boyce) Sparling
by her family.
Christmas eve communion
will be celebrated Thursday
evening at 7:30 p.m. in the
Hensall United Church.

Lady attends Explorer event
The Christmas meeting of the
Kippen east Women's Institute
was held Monday night at the
home of the president, Mrs. R.
Bell, with Mrs. G. MacLean as
co-hostess. It had been
postponed from the previous
Wednesday due to adverse
weather conditions.
The roll call was answered
with an interesting incident of
school days. The motto was
given by Mrs. A. McGregor, and
Mrs. Ken McCraie presented a
reading.
Mrs. W. C. Bennett of
Seaforth .presented a
demonstration on candle making
and gave a beautiful arrangement
to the lady with a birthday
closest to Christmas. Mrs,
Robert Kinsmen was the.
recipient.
It was decided to send money
to a family near Dublin who
were recently burnt out.
A debate was held entitled,

Mrs. H. Caldwell. Mrs. R. Bell
read a poem.

lunch assisted by Mrs. Ken
McKay, Mrs. V. Alderdice, Mrs.
M. Connolly and Mrs. B.
Triebner.
There was a sunshine pal gift
exchange and Santa arrived to
distribute the gifts.
