MY CHRISTMAS WISH
By GORDON TAYLOR
Exeter PS
If I could have my wish I
would wish for no more wars,
peace and goodwill among men
and women.
I would like my wish to be true
because I don't like hearing about
men getting killed in wars. If I got
my wish the world would ibe a
better place to live in.

The Christmas meeting of the
Staffa Womens Institute was held
in the township hall Wednesday
afternoon.
Mrs. Ed Chappel presided and
opened the meeting by
conducting Christmas carols. Roll
call was answered by members
displaying their most unusual
Christmas card.
During business it was decided
to charge $3.00 a couple $1.00
for students at the New Years Eve
dance. Mrs. Ross McPhail and
Mrs. Russell Worden are
responsible for decorating and
Mrs. Cameron Vivian, Mrs.
Robert McCaughey and Mrs.
John Templeman in charge of the
lunch. Members are asked to
bring sandwiches.
Circle I is responsible for a
card party to be held sometime in
January.
Mrs. Jo. Van Valkengoed used
for her motto, a custom of her
homeland, Holland, explaining
about almond roll and serving it
to the members.
Mrs. Russell Worden
demonstrated how to make
simple table centers. Secret pals
were revealed and gifts
exchanged.
Good tidings we
bring to you and your
kin. We wish you a
season filled with
good cheer.
Lunch was served by the
hostesses Mrs. Gordon Hoggarth,
Mrs. Robert Parsons and Mrs. A.
H. Daynard.

THE BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST
By COLLEEN BRE EN
Mt. Cannel School
There the baby lies,
In a crib of straw,
And around are visitors
Standing in great awe.
Bringing gifts to him,
Frankensense, gold and mirth.
Gosh, he must have been awfully
cold
As they celebrated his birth.
Mother Mary standing proud,
Joseph stands in joy.
The three kings stand in honour,
Looking at the boy.
The famous star leads the
shepards,
The kings they came also.
Their animals were left alone,
When they worshiped the boy,
they bowed low.
So that is the real Christmas,
It happened long ago.
When the humble Jesus was born,
To forgive the people whom he
loved so.
Backlash on
police policy
There has been some backlash
from the policy adopted at a
recent meeting by the Huron
County Board of Education
con

police .
CoDebirreacnteorfelot fit necessaryEdueati to send
a letter to all municipal chiefs of
police in Huron County, officers
in charge of OPP detachments in
Huron County and to the Crown
Attorney to clarify the reasons
behind the policy.
Cochrane and some board
members had some
communication with law
enforcement officers who were
puzzled by the policy which some
thought hindered them in their
duties.
"I had misgivings about the
policy from the start," stated
Gordon Moir, Wingham. "Society
is so busy protecting the rights of
criminals we are hampering
people who are not. If I was going
to be on this board in 1971, I
would move to have this question
re-opened."
"Would you not object to your
child being questioned by the
police while at school?"
Cochrane asked Moir.
Moir stated that of course he
would like to know, but he
insisted that the policy was
"leaving the impression we're
hampering the police."
"I really can't see anything in
the policy to hamper police," said
Dan Murphy, Goderich.
"Children should not be
questioned in the absence of their
parents."
STUDENTS RESPONSIBLE
A policy adopted Wednesday
evening by the Huron County
Board of Education meeting in
Clinton requires that all students
be held financially responsible for
damage to school property.
"We need something to make
people more responsible to the
public," said Gordon Moir,
Wingham.
The policy also states that
qualified persons will be engaged
to repair the damage and that a
minimum charge of $2 will be
assessed for repairs.
The principal has the right,
according to the policy, to
suspend from school, in
accordance with the Schools
Administration Act, any student
who fails to make restitution.
Principals are also cautioned to
use discretion in assessing
negligence to students and in
presentation of charges.
