Music and Christmas decorations set the theme of the PERSONALS Mr. & Mrs. Harold Noonan of Stratford have retired and are now living in Southcott Pines. Mr. Noonan retired from the C.N.R. last Wednesday when he made his last trip. During his time with the C.N.R. his train runs were out of London and Stratford. Mrs. Noonan is the former Edna Gill of Grand Bend. The Community friendship and visiting committee of the United Church were around Monday afternoon with boxes of treats to all their shut-ins. Mr. & Mrs. G. Tomlinson visited last week in Hamilton. Rev. & Mrs. A. Willis observed their 50th wedding anniversary Wednesday, December 16. Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Willis. By MRS. Morgan spent last week at Bermuda. Mr. & Mrs. William Rohde visited Saturday evening with Mr. & Mrs. Russell Morley, Exeter. Patricia Miner, London, spent the weekend with her parents, Rev. Stewart & Mrs. Miner. Mr. & Mrs. Edwin Miller, Brian, Barry and Barbara were Sunday evening guests with Mr. & Mrs. James Miller, Woodham. A number of girls and their mothers attended the 4-H Achievement Day at South Huron District High School, Exeter, Saturday. Phone 227-4674. 17c The annual Christmas Fair was held last Wednesday, under the auspices of the Women's Auxiliary. The residents had an opportunity to do their Christmas shopping from several display tables in the craftroom, and tea and cookies were served in the auditorium. The Goderich Little Theatre presented a musical, Trial by Jury), in the auditorium Wednesday evening. This play was thoroughly enjoyed by the residents. The Adastral Park Brownies and Guides provided the program for Family Night, Thursday. Padre Youmetoff lead and directed the singing of several carols by about sixty girls after which they presented each resident with a Christmas corsage which they had made as one of their craft projects. The girls also assisted the wheel chair residents before and after the program. Railings presided for the UCW Christmas meeting in the schoolroom of the Church Thursday evening and opened the meeting with prayer, The scripture reading (the Christmas story) was read by Mrs. Lloyd Morgan and meditation. on the scripture was given by Mrs. Alvin Lobb. Two poems were read by Mrs. George Hicks. Others who contributed readincs were Mrs, Elmer Powe, Mrs. Sam Skinner, Mrs. Harvey Smith and Mrs. Chas. Railings. The readings were interspersed with the singing of ,carols. A trio, Mrs. Ross Means, Mrs. Ken Hodgins and Mrs. Russell Wilson sang two numbers, with Mrs. Alvin Essery playing the piano accompaniment, The business part of the meeting preceded the program and was conducted by the president, Mrs. Sam Skinner. The lunch which followed the meeting was in keeping with the festive season. SUNDAY SCHOOL The United Church schoolroom was filled with parents and children Saturday night for the annual Christmas concert. After some carol singing the various classes presented numbers appropriate to the season. A film was shown, by the Sunday School superintendent, Sam Skinner. To climax the evening's entertainment Santa arrived in a jovial mood to distribute the treats. PERSONALS There will be a 'special Christmas service in the United Church, Sunday morning. Ray Lammie who has been hospitalized for the past seven weeks was taken from South Huron Hospital to Victoria Hospital Monday for further treatment. Mr. & Mrs. George Dunn observed their 66th wedding anniversary, December 7. Mr. & Mrs. Reg Hodgso'n of Waterloo were Sunday dinner guests with Mr. & Mrs. Ken Greb. Mrs. Lawrence Hirtzel was a weekend visitor in Toronto with Mrs. Terry Durrer and daughters Nancy and Nickie. • who came into the spotlight in the last half of the dance. With Miss Della Peart 'at the piano they put on a wonderful half hour of dance music. Otis Sawyer of Kirkton with the bass fiddle, and Frank Lastell of Exeter with the violin thrilled the dancers with their music. Knits worked by Staffa ladies By MRS. J. TEMPLEMAN STAFFA Over 20 ladies attended the Summary Day for working with knits held in Stratford on Tuesday. Edna and Janet Miller, London visited over the weekend with their parents Mr. & Mrs. Leslie Miller. CLARKE KENNEDY GRAND BEND Thirty seven senior citizens met for their Christmas meeting, December 9. The Churchpf God ladies were hostesses. Mrs. Ruby Turnbull opened the program by reading a poem and Rev. D. Wattam welcomed the group and commented on how courageous the few men were to come out with so many women. Mrs. Emery Desjardine thanked Rev. Wattam for his warm welcome. Mr. Alex. Desjardine led in group singing of carols, Mrs. Turnbull read two poems. Mrs. Howard Vincent favoured the group with a solo and Mrs. Wattam played two selections on the vibra-harp and also sang a solo. All present were asked to stand, give their name and comment on the first Christmas gift that they remembered. Many responded with amusing tales of their childhood. A duet wassungbyMrs. Everett Desjardine and Mr. Alex Desjardine. Rev. Waitam read a poem out of .an 1890 school reader and went on to tell of some of his school day experiences. Several riddles were told and brought many laughs. A game of numbers and letters of the alphabet was played, which when finished spelled out, Refreshments Are Ready. All enjoyed hot homemade soup and dessert. Mrs. Emery Desjardine thanked the members of the Church of God for their kindness. The senior citizens have been invited by the Catholic Women's League to the Alhambra Hall for their January get-to-gether. ACW Eleven ladies of the Grand Bend Anglican Church were guests of Rev. & Mrs. E. Insley at the rectory in Thedford. During the meeting a letter was read from a prayer partner, Mrs. K. S. Earle, in Lumsden, Sask. She told about life in the West. President Mrs. Nola Taylor asked Rev. Insley to conduct the installation for the slate of officers except for one office which will be completed in January. Various Christmas good deeds were planned. meeting of the thirty members present. Everyone felt the spirit of Christmas. Mrs. Baker conducted the worship service and carol singing was enjoyed. Mrs. Mason pianist had previously taped the carols and the tape was used as the accompaniment. Rev. H. Dobson was guest speaker. His topic was The Christian Meaning of Christmas. During the business Mrs. R. Kading was appointed to assist Mrs. Wm Love as unit leader. A Christmas lunch was served by the hostess, Mrs. J. Allister and Mrs. Kading. Mrs. Helen Hicks has been' a patient in hospital in London but has been transferred to Exeter Hospital where she is convalescing. Mr. & Mrs. H.
