UCW CHRISTMAS MEETING
Thursday evening, in a room
bright with Christmas
decorations, members of the
UCW of Zion United Church
held their December meeting.
Mrs. Cliff Russell was in charge
of the program and was assisted
by Mrs. Cliff Brock, Mrs.
Emerson Wein and Mrs. Myrtle
Baker. Carols were sung after the
history of their origin was
outlined. Rev. and Mrs. Douglas
Warren sang one carol in duet;
Debbie Finkbeiner and Mary
Ellen Schlenker sang another.
Mrs. Gordon Finkbeiner
accompanied the Warrens, Mrs.
Alvin Finkbeiner the girls.
The president, Mrs. Ed.
Finkbeiner, conducted the
business. Reports of the year's
work were read. Donations of
money were voted to the
Children's Aid, Five Oaks, and
the church treasury. It was
decided to hold afternoon
meetings in January, February
and March,

attended the funeral of the
former's uncle the late Norman
Rae of Stratford.
When your tile sink becomes

Last Monday evening the
Women's Institute staged a
Christmas party for the senior
citizens of the area. Rev. Glen
Wright of Excter was the guest
speaker, his theme Growing Old
Gracefully. The Ropp family,
operators of the Delaware
Nursing Home, entertained with
religious and old-time songs.
Each guest received a corsage,
and the Men's Social Club
donated prizes. Winners of the
prizes were: Man with least hair
on his head, Art Ford; man with
most hair, Roy Fin kbeiner; lady
with largest family, Mrs. Maggie
Clarke; lady with shortest dress,
Mrs. Alf Tilley; lucky corsage,
Mrs. Chris Dinney; oldest man,
George Hepburn; oldest lady,
Mrs. Isaac Gower; birthday
nearest Christmas, Mrs. Preston
Dearing; couple married shortest
time, Mr. and Mrs. Will
Oestricher, couple married
longest, Mr. and Mrs. Russell
Schroeder.
Mrs. Bruce Shapton and Mrs.
Ed Lamport arranged the
program with Mrs. Shapton
acting as chairman. The East
Group under the leadership of
Mrs. Earl Neil and Mrs. Tom
Triebner prepared the meal and
Mrs. Charlie Browning was in .
charge of decorations and
invitations.
Members of the Institute will
have their Christmas dinner
December 16 at 7 o'clock, with

Wednesday, Mrs. Walter
Fydenchuk attended in
Kitchener the Midwestern
library workshop on Valuation
of Library Materials.
Wednesday evening members
of Stephen Township Council
enjoyed a turkey dinner
prepared by the Women's
Institute. There was a singsong
led by Jim Hayter and Paul
Dietrich, and Mr. Hayter
expressed appreciation for the
support he received during his
years as reeve.
Thursday afternoon Mr. &
Mrs. Emmery Fahrner spoke to
the Explorers Group on the
history of the Crediton church.
The Explorers are now preparing
a mural to portray what the
church means to them.
Friday evening the
congregation of Zion United
Church held their annual
potluck supper. Mr. & Mrs. Earl
Neil showed slides of their trip
to Expo and the Far East. Ray
Morlock presented the budget
for 1971.
Sunday evening in Zion
United Church, Albert Jones of
the Shanteymen's Mission
showed a film of Christian
dedication and sang, to the
accompaniment of his guitar,
some of the songs he sings when
presenting the Gospel to men in
lumber and training camps.
Mr. & Mrs. Harry Crocker,
Lambeth, were Sunday visitors
at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Alf
Tilley.
Mrs. Sylvester Wuerth is a
patient at South Huron Hospital.
A committee has been
formed for the renovation of the
Stephen Township Community
Hall. Members of the committee
are from the Hall Board, the
Township Council and the
Crediton and District Social
Club, with Lorne Hodge as
chairman and William Averill as
secretary. It is twenty years
since major repairs were made in
the hall. Present renovations
include stormproof windows,
wall panelling, a widened stage
and a serving area.
Mr. & Mrs. Ray Ortwein of
Galt spent the weekend with
their sister Mrs. Clarence Fahner
and Mr. Fahner. Saturday
evening they were all invited to
the home of Mr. & Mrs. Wayne
Gibson of Exeter, where they
held a surprise birthday party
for Mrs. Jim Gould.
