Ausable hockey
.A shut-out and a nip and tuck
battle featured Sunday's weekly
double header in the Ausable
Valley Rec hockey league,
Aliso Craig blanked Lieury in
one contest while Brinsley
nipped Shipka 6-5 in the other
half of the twin bill.
Ken Jones led the Ailsa Craig
attack with a two goal effort
while single scores were notched
by Don McAlpine, Dave Collins
and Gwyn Griffiths.
Hat trick performances led
both clubs when Brinsley edged
Shipka. Brian Hodgins was the
triple scorer for the winners
while John Becker managed the
same trick for Shipka. Jim
Thompson, Paul Hodgson and
John Glavin each scored once to
complete the Brinsley total
while Randy Becker fired two
sussessful shots to wind up the
Shipka scoring.
John McLean was unbeatable in
the nets for the winners, The
final score 7-0 for the Lucan
club,
This game saw Lucan throw
48 shots at Mike McLaughlin,
the Sunset netminder while John
McLean handled 33 for the
win.
The Irish had four goals in
the first period, one each by Bob
Evans, Dennis Carly, Alan Kraul
and Jim Mackem.
Tom Hodgins scored the lone
goal in the second period while
Ken Needham and Kevin
McCarman turned the light on in
the final 20 minutes.
Lucan picked up 12 penalties
to 8 for the losers. Dave
Revington was the bad boy of
the Irish being assessed a total of
10 minutes in penalties.
One of the reasons for the
Irish wins is the improved play
of defenceman Ken Needham
who wears sweater number 15.
Ken has mastered a good shift
which time and again got the
puck out of the Irish end of the
rink.
The next night Lucan
travelled to Tavistock where
they beat the home team by a
10-6 score.
The goal scorers for Lucan
were Dave Revington with his
first hat trick of the season and
assistant Captain Tom Hodgins
The Crediton Tigers started
the Ontario Hockey Association
Intermediate "C" season in high
gear Sunday night by trouncing
the Clinton Colts 17-10 at the
Huron Park arena.
Captain Dennis Morrissey
was the scoring hero for
Crediton coming up with a six
goal performance. Morrissey
picked up a hat trick in each of
the first and third periods and
came up with assists for a
nine-point night.
Speedy Bill Chipchase was
close behind in the scoring
parade with four goals and a pair
of assists.
The score was tied at 4-4
after the first period of play
with Bob Gruber scoring a single
goal for the Tigers in addition to
Morrissey's trio. Mike Marquis
notched a pair for Clinton while
singles went to Cam Colquhoun
and Randy Glenn.
Crediton moved two goals
ahead by the end of the second
period as Paul Young scored a
pair of counters and single goals
were notched by Bill Chipchase
and Bill Taylor.
Scoring for Clinton in the
middle frame were Mike Marquis
and Laurie Colquhoun.
The Crediton boys broke
loose with a real scoring barrage
in the third period as they
blinked the red light on no less
than nine occasions behind Gary
and Dennis Carty with two goals
each,
Jim Hearn, Jack Bradley and
Ken Needham scored one each
for the Irish.
The winning goal was scored
by Ken Needham at 8:20 of the
third period. This was the
fastest game of the season for
Lucan with 10 penalties going to
the kids from Lucan while
Tavistock had 5.
Sunday, Lucan travelled to
Clinton for a 7 p.m. game. This
turned out to be Lucan's sixth
win without a loss. In the game
Lucan outscored the home team
by a 7-4 margin.
Tom Hodgins was the star
with three goals. Jack Bradly
scored twice with singles going
to Jim Hearn and Dennis Carty.
John McLean was in the net for
the Irish.
Goal scorers forr Clinton
were Rielly, Stirling, Arthur and
Jenkins. Lucan picked up 15
penalties and Clinton 10.
The hard hitting Irish lived up
to the name of the fighting Irish
as they scrapped and muscled
their way to the win,
Lucan now has 53 goals for and
49 against. Last night they met
Lambeth and no doubt the Irish
tried-to even the score and make
up for the 7-4 loss suffered to
this team on November 6. Did
you see the game?
Black in the Clinton goal.
Morrissey and Chipchase each
scored three times to complete
their double hat trick and hat
trick, respectively.
Other third period goal
getters for the Tigers were Paul
Young, Morley Fraser and Bill
Taylor.
Captain Paul Draper was on
the scoreboard twice to head the
third period Clinton scoring
while singles were notched by
Laurie Colquhoun and Cam
Colquhoun.
Lose to Beavers
A short-handed Crediton
Tiger crew were downed 10-4 by
the Seaforth Beavers in an
Ontario Hockey Association
Intermediate "C" game in
Seaforth, Tuesday.
With only nine players in the
line-up, the Tigers fell behind
4-1 after the first period of play
and 6-2 after forty minutes of
play.
Bill Chipchase and Dennis
Morrissey each scored two goals
to account for the Crediton
scoring.
Veteran performer Bob
Beutenmiller scored three times
to lead the Seaforth scoring
attack. Jack McIlwain and Terry
Craig each blinked the red light
twice and single scores were
chalked up by Harvey Dale, Ed
Dolmage and Ray Henderson.
