ST. JAMES CHURCH
Sunday, Rev. Carson preached
on Stewardship. He said more and
more people are practicing tithing
as the only realistic way of giving
to the church. He went on to
point out that there are four
concentric circles of concern. The
smallest of the circles is the
concern for the local church
property, The next is the diocese,
and the next is the world. The
fourth circle is concern for the
suffering humanity, the
homeless, the starving and the
sick.
Mr. Carson said the task of
Christians is to bridge the gap
between the haves and the have
nots of the world. He said
Christians should give and not
count the cost, or the labor and
not look for praise.
Next Sunday the service of
evening prayer will be at 12:30
p.m. in St. James Church. The
Sunday school will meet during
the service.
UNITED CHURCH

Comrades we are proud of you ,
You have erased all doubt
from our minds by your
response to the Annual
Remembrance Church Parade,
Sunday, Nov, 8th. and at the
Remembrance Banquet on
November 11 held in our
Memorial Hall, This is ample
testimonial indeed that you
remembered the Fallen
Comrades, The Banquet was a
tremendous success with over
100 sitting down to dinner.
Our grateful thanks to the
guest speaker Comrade Keith
Butler, vice- chairman of the War
Amps, to the bugler Cpl. Overal
R.C.R., to the Ladies Auxiliary
for the exceptionally fine
dinner, to Mr. Loosemore, the
pianist who played for us in the
Sea Land and Air Lounge
following the banquet while we
sang the popular songs of
yesteryear and to all those, too
numerous to mention, who
worked so hard to make the
Remembrance Ceremonies a
meaningful success,
The Young People of the
Coffee House have asked that I
thank, on their behalf, all the
fine folk who sponsored skaters
in their recent Skate-a-thou held
Nov. llth. The `Kids' claim it was
successful and the funds received
will supply most of the
necessary equipment needed for
the entertainment of the Youth
of our Community during the
coming season.
It is nice to know there are
still many interested people who
like to see the youngsters enjoy
themselves in supervised
surroundings. All I can say is
Good Luck 'Kids'
congratulations on your efforts
and here's to a most successful
season in the 'Orange Trash
Can.'
Attention 'Action Set' -
Comrade Gord. Elson, Branch
Sports Officer advises the
Tuesday Night mixed sports is in
full swing. There was a fine turn
out last Tuesday and if it is your
desire to get into the swing of
things - it's Branch 540 where the
Action is. Why not make it a
point to visit your Branch and
get in on the fun and games.
The 540 'Early Bird'
campaign is coming along strong,
with more Comrades entering
into the spirit. I wonder just
how many Branches in
Command could boast 100%
prepaid membership. Branch
540 could be the first - ever. It's
up to you Comrades - let's give it
a whirl.
