Minor hockey started last
week when the selected captains
picked their teams. The
remaining time was used up
playing two games with four
teams in the Novice league.
The opener proved to be very
exciting as Vancouver battled
the Black Hawks to a 2-all tie.
Dave Atthill scored both
Vancouver goals while Steve
Skinner and Preston Dearing
scored the Black Hawk goals.
The game between the Road
Runners and Boston was almost
as exciting as the Road Runners
defeated Boston 5-4. Paul Gaiser
and captain Randy Parsons led
the Road Runners with two
goals apiece while Eugene Clarke
scored the other marker.
Boston goals were scored by
Dave Robinson who got two
with singles scored by Brad
Taylor and Darrell Preszcator.
In Pee Wee hockey the Seals
defeated the Panthers 3-1 on
two goals by Morley Obre and
one by captain Robert Heard.
The lone goal for the Panthers
was scored by Doug Regier.
For the first game of the
season the second Pee Wee game
was a thriller from start to finish
with a final score of 4-all.
Big Tom Hayter scored the
first hat trick of the season as his
Boston team, "Tom is the
captain", tied the Blues. Brian
Clarke scored the other Boston

Gaines this week:
About 20 more bantams are
needed in order to have four
houseleague teams. Over 40 boys
were out to try for the bantam
all-stars. If all these boys would
come out for houseleague a solid
league could be formed with
four teams.
I hate to keep harping on
help but coaches are badly
needed for two pee wee teams
and possibly four bantam teams.
The four novice teams and the
mites and squirts all have
coaches for the season but the
other teams are still without. All
games are on Saturday
afternoon.
If any names are missing in
the Novice or Pee Wee teams
give me a call at 235-2833.
A meeting for Rec League
teams will be held at the Arena,
Thursday night at 8 o'clock.
Anyone interested in entering a
team come to the meeting.

The Crediton Tigers made
their first start of the season a
winning one at the Huron Park
arena, Sunday night by
trouncing the Clinton Colts 14-5
in an exhibition contest.
Both teams will be competing
in an Ontario Hockey
Association Intermediate "C"
grouping along with the Seaforth
Beavers and Goderich Sailors.
The same two teams are
expected to meet in a return
game at the Clinton arena,

Big third period
The Crediton boys broke
loose with a big eight goal
barrage in the third period to
run away from the opposition
from Clinton in a hard hitting
rough contest in which more
than 30 penalties were called by
referee Bill Walsh of Stratford.
Captain Dennis Morrissey
opened the scoring before one
minute had elapsed in the game
to put his club out in front to
stay. The Tigers outscored
Clinton 3-1 in each of the first
two periods setting up the last
period spree.
After Terry Wade had scored
for Crediton and Dean Reid
replied for Clinton in the first
period, Ken Fraser put the score
up to 3-1 for the Tigers with a
successful penalty shot.
In the second period, Bill
Bowden, Bob Gruber and Bob
Buchanan scored singles for
Crediton and Ken Daer

14.23 while Jack Bradley assisted
by Jim Hearn made it 3-0 at
15.50.
Keven McCarman closed the
scoring at 18.53.
Clinton scored at 5.34, 6.33
and 11.28 Jenkins, Henry and
Stew Mustard in that order. Then
at 13.30 Jeff Craig received an
unassisted goal and Tom Hodgins
scored at 19.45.
The only goal of the third
period was from the stick of Doug
Rosser at 15.29. Shots on goal
were 43 for Lucan and 40 for the
Colts. Bruce Maslen was in goal
for the Irish to pick up the win.
Friday night, Fred Elder scored
the winning goal with 47 seconds
left to play in the third period to
give the H-Z club the 4-3 victory.
In the first period Lucan and
Zurich-Hensall Co-ops each
scored with Jim Hearn getting his
first of two goals and John
Corriveau scoring for the
Hensall-Zurich team.
In the second period Lucan
scored the only goal off the stick
of Ken Needham. In the third
period Jim Hearn scored his
second goal of the game with
singles going to Aubrey Bedard
and Ron Corriveau.
Penalties played a big part in
the Co-ops win, with the Irish
getting 17 to only six for the
winners.
Joe Arnold played a steady
game in goal for the Irish and with
a little help from his teammates
could have won the game for
Lucan. Let's hope the Irish stayed
out of the penalty box last night
in the game against the Exeter
Hawks.
