The October meeting of the
Crediton W.I. was held at the hall
October 21. The 4-H girls, their
mothers and leaders were guests.
Mrs. Bruce Shapton gave the
welcome and read a poem
Friendship.
Mrs, Charles Browning,
convener of Resolutions, was
chairlady for the program. Mrs.
Robert Bushfield,commented on
the motto, No Sense and
Nonsense Causes Most Accidents.
Allan Becker, Crediton's fire
chief, introduced Fire Marshall
Don Owens of Guelph. His topic
was Fire Prevention in the Home
and on the Farm, which
enlightened all present of some of
the dangers found in homes.
Mr. Owens also showed a film
entitled, They Called it Fire
Prodf, and said if you educate
young people in fire safety they
will be safety conscious when
they get older.
Some constant menaces in the
homes are accumulations of
rubbish, oily rags, household
cleansers and polishes, flammable
liquids such as turpentine and
gasoline, improperly fused fuse
boxes. Mr. Owen said women fire
fighters are becoming more
prevalent in the small
communities and logging camps
etc. Following a question period
Mrs. Harold Penhale thanked Mr.
Owens and presented him with a
gift of appreciation.
Mrs. Carol Amos played a
piano solo and accompanied
Doris Schwartz who sang a solo.
Mrs. Bruce Shapton presided
for the business meeting.
