E. building of the United Church, October 14. The following officers were elected as the executive for 1970-'71: president, Mrs. Donald Ankers, Lucan; vice-presidents, Len Maslen, Lucan and Harold Wallis, Granton; treasurer, Marsh Webster; secretary, Mrs. Stewart Park; service to patients, conveners, Mrs. Karl O'Neil and Mrs. H. B. Langford; education convener, Mrs. Clarence Haskett; campaign chairman, Steve Storey; co-chairman, Mrs. M. H. Hodgins; publicity, Gordon Brooks; press secretary, Mrs. Frances Saward; representatives, Mrs. Joe Nagle, C.W.L., Mrs. David Kestle, Clandeboye and Mrs. Heber Davis, Saintsbury. to be the delegate at the Area Convention. It was suggested that the W.I. be responsible for placing trash cans at strategic places in the village, subject to the approval of the Council. Mrs. Snelgrove reported on 4-1-I work and pointed out the need for an exhibit board. The W.I. agreed to pay for the necessary material. Owing to the resignation of the convener of Home Economics and Health, Mrs. J. W. Lockyer read an article How to Deal With Your Tensions. The resolutions convener, Mrs. Snelgrove, read the resolutions to be presented at the Area Convention, and these were discussed. UNITED CHURCH Guest speaker at Lucan and Clandeboye United churches was Rev. Dr. L. W. Schnell of Saskatoon, representing the Canadian Bible Society. Dr. Schnell, who was for many years the Bible Society's Representative for Northern Saskatchewan, is spending six weeks in the Western Ontario district, assisting the Rev. J. C. Thompson. He emphasized the purpose of the Society in bringing Christ to the World, "With loving zeal, with fervent prayer, with one accord, with joyful song". He pointed out that some part of the Bible is available in over 1400 languages, and that the Scriptures are most effective in making contact with people for Christ. He made a hit with the children, and told them to remember six words, Keep Your Eye on This Book. The first lesson was read by Patti Fisher and the second by Johanna Engel. Next Sunday the service will be taken by Rev. Susan Seymour of Granton while Mr. Tupling takes the Anniversary Service at Granton. The Committee of Stewards will meet October 26. UCW The general meeting of the UCW of the Lucan United Church was held in the C. E. building, October 13, with a good attendance. Mrs. Sheridan Revington gave a talk on Thanksgiving and the funds for the Church and five Senior CGIT girls led a Thanksgiving worship service. Mrs. William Froats spoke on the needs for Angola and Mrs. Cec Robb on Community Friendship. Rev. W. C. Tupling gave a talk on the work of the Bible Society. It was agreed to send gifts to the patients of the London Psychiatric Hospital again this year. Lunch was served by Mrs. Ivan Hearn and Mrs. Dave Park. CWL BAZAAR The Catholic Women's League of St. Patrick's Church held their annual bazaar October 16, in the Lucan Arena, which was a great success. The bake and candy tables were soon cleared and the country store sold a good supply of vegetables. The children's booth was kept busy and the By SID DALEY From all reports the bus trip on Saturday to the Oktoberfest penny sale was very popular, as well as the sewing and white elephant booths. Garrett have returned from a holiday trip to the American West. Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Pitt and family of Cargill were recent visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Jim Mugford. Mr. & Mrs. Cliff Abbott and Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Davis have returned from a few days visit in Wiarton where they were the guests of Mr. & Mrs. Allen Tindall. Mrs. Tom Thompson and Tommy and Mrs. Ruth Chisholm, visited Mrs. Katherine Fischer last Wednesday, and Mr. & Mrs. Ray Fischer, Sunday. Mrs. Roy Stanley of Toronto, called on Miss Lina Abbott, Sunday. CGIT autumn tea • is great success The CGIT's Autumn Tea given in the basement of the Anglican Church was a great success, with a good attendance from both Anglican and United Churches and others. Receiving guests at the door were Mrs. R. A. Carson, Judy Froats and Mrs. Gordon Atkinson. Mrs. Harold Hodgins and Mrs. Mert Culbert poured tea. Mrs. G. Jervis and Mrs. M. H. Hodgins, displayed collections and demonstrated various interesting hand crafts. The door prize was won by Mrs. Harold Hodgins which was a cake beautifully decorated by Mrs. E. G. Ross. There were 26 members of the CGIT present and three leaders, Mrs. A. E. Reilly and Mrs. Frances Saward assisted in the kitchen. in Waterloo was a tremendous success, all parties attending claim they had a fabulous time and urge 540 to carry on with the good work and be sure to line up a bus for 71. Incidentally the bus was full — with the good report received maybe next year we may plan on two buses. Our Branch Membership Chairman advises that 1970 is shaping up to be a booster year membership wise. Make sure you are a PAID UP member — stay active pay your dues and help your Comrades keep up the good work within your community. Again this year there will be an 'EARLY BIRD' campaign, this means to become an EARLY BIRD you must pay your 1971 Branch dues prior to December 31, 1970. You will then have the EARLY BIRD seal placed on your membership card and your name will automatically be entered in the Branch EARLY BIRD draw which will be made in the Sea, Land and Air Lounge just prior to midnight December 31, 1970. The Branch 'Outside' Chairman, Comrade Len Fisher is organizing a work party for Saturday afternoon, October 24, 1970 to clean up the Legion Grounds and etc. prior to the arrival of the white fluffy stuff. If you have a few minutes to spare this Saturday, please report to Comrade Len at the Legion — Take Pride in Your Legion — Remember Many Hands Make Light Work.
