Lucan Irish are fighters
— Continued from page 8
Against Mllverton Sunday,
the home club jumped in front
quickly and the Hawks were
unable to catch up.
Milverton took' a 3-1 edge
after the first period of play
with the Exeter'goal being fired
by Randy Preszcator, with assists
going to Bob Rowe and Peter
Kleinstiver.
The Hawks scored twice in
the middle frame while the
Milverton boys were scoring on
three occasions. The first Exeter
tally came at 6:19 on Bob
Rowe's successful shot with
Brian Bestard setting up the
play.
At 18:37 Bestard was on the
firing end on a play originated
by Ron Janke.

A DO'S BEST FRIEND/ By CLARE STANLEY
This year the Lucan entry in
the Junior "D" ranks is being
billed as the fighting Irish Six.
Somehow the team has got the
idea that the word fighting refers
to the use of their fists rather than
their ability to play hockey. On
Wednesday the team opened their
home exhibition series with a
game against the Mitchell Hawks
in which they managed to pick up
19 penalties to 16 for the visitors.
The final score was 7-5 for
Lucan which was the only
redeeming factor in the game for
the 200 odd fans that paid to see
hockey. Even with local referees
the Lucan team picked up the big
end of the 35 penalties including
a bench penalty to coach Bill Neil
for remarks directed at the
officials' ability.
Goal scores for the fighting
Irish were Kevin McCarnam and
Dave Revington with a pair each
and Jack Bradley, Ken Needham
and Danny Calcott with singles.
For Mitchell, Flanagan and
Willard scored twice and
Carnochen once.
New faces in the Irish lineup
include Danny Calcott, Jack
Bradley, Bill Pearson, Kevin
McCarnam. Ken Millson, Bob
Evans and Ed Legg.
Young Bruce Maslen played a
good second half in goal for the
Irish and John McLean was in
his usual good form in the
opening 30 minutes.
The Irish were then pitted
against the Lucan-Ilderton Jets
on Friday night. This was
somewhat like throwing
Christians to the lions as the Jets
mopped up the ice with the
Juniors to the tune of 18-0.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing
but I wonder what kind of
reasoning was used when the Irish
accepted this exhibition tilt.
Hockey is a competitive game and
must be played this way by all
players be they man or boy and
the Jets were not about to lie
down and play dead for a group
of Juniors they therefore hit as
hard and as often as the fighting
Irish the only problem was that
they skate faster, hit harder and
know more about the game of
hockey than our boys.
This game must have been very
discouraging for all and it is
hoped that the Irish management
will put more thought into future
exhibition games.
Last night the Norwich
Merchants, Ontario Jr. "D"
champs came to Lucan so let's
hope the fighting Irish played
hockey and gave the fans their
money's worth. This year's team
should match last year's second
place finish and provide lots of
excitement on the cold nights to
follow.
Have you 'got your season's
family ticket? For only $12.50
the whole family can enjoy 15
home games as the admission is
$1.00 for adults, 50c for students
and 25c for children. This has to
be the bargain of the year,
See you next week, I hope.
