The Home Economics and
Health committee, with Mrs.
Lorne Porter in charge, took the
program for the September
meeting. The roll call was a
poisonous substance which I do
or do not take precautions for,
was answered by the members.
The motto, We Don't Stop

Will attend bazaar

set the stage for a party given in
honor of the new Beta Sigma Phi
ACW ship bales
to Saskatchewan
Mrs. Nelson Monteith was
hostess for the October meeting
of the Anglican Church Women
when Mrs. G. R. Doidge
presided.
Prayers of thanksgiving were
led by Mrs. A, Carter and reports
of committees were received.
Two bales were shipped to a
mission station at Prince Albert,
Sask., and a donation of ten
dollars was made to the CNIB.
Plans were finalized for the
Bell Tower Tour and Tea in the
Parish Hall, October 9, from 3
p.m, to 5 p.m.
The members will be the
guests of Caven Presbyterian
VMS, October 15.
The Huron Fall Deanery will
be in Goderich, October 20,
when delegates will attend.
Mrs. W. G. Balsdon arranged a
display of beeswax candles and
this craft will be demonstrated
at the November meeting.
Mrs. Doidge conducted two
contests and refreshments were
served by the hostess and Mrs. J.
Potter and Mrs. M. Greene.
Senior citizens
enjoy program
The Senior Citizens met for
the first meeting this season,
Tuesday night, in the Legion
Hall with Herman Powe,
president acting as Master of
Ceremonies.
Mrs. Harold Jeffery was
pianist and Cecil Skinner led the
singing.
One minute silence was held
in memory of Mrs. Joseph White
and Mrs. Edward Lindenfield,
two active members, who passed
away.
The entertainment for the
evening provided by the
Elimville church group, was very
entertaining,
The committee, for
The Thanksgiving meeting of
Unit 1, Exeter United Church
Women, was held October 1,
with Mrs. Wellington Brock
conducting the business. The
Autumn thankoffering was
received,
Mrs. B. W. Tuckey was in
charge of the program and led in
the devotions. Mrs. Melvin
Gardiner read the scripture.
Mrs. George Anderson, the
guest speaker, pointed out the
many things for which to give
thanks. Every good gift is from
God, and the greatest gift of all
is Eternal Life, Mrs. Anderson
said.
Following her talk, she asked
the members to write a list of
things for which they were
thankful.
Mrs. Dan McLeod sang a solo
accompanied by Mrs. F.
Wildfong.
The meeting closed with the
serving of refreshments.
UCW UNITS 3 AND 4
Assistant leader for Unit IV,
Mrs, .Gerald Godbolt, and Unit
III Leader, Mrs. Maurice Love,
conducted separate business
meetings for the units before
they joined for a combined
program, Tuesday evening.
Plans were made for a bazaar
to be held November 14, and for
the Regional Presbyterial which
will be held at Thames Road
United Church, the end of this
month.
Mrs. Wes Witmer told the
story of the founding of
Thanksgiving and what it means,
and Pat Bender and Susan Grigg,
of Dashwood, played several
numbers on their accordions.
A Thanksgiving devotional,
which had been capably
prepared by Miss May Jones, was
given by Mrs. Doug ElliSon, Mrs.
Jim Prout and Mrs. Winston
pledges, by the .Mph Fi chapter,
at the home of Mrs. Tom Duffy,
Hensall, last Friday evening.
Members arrived
appropriately dressed as
cowboys, saloon girls and
Indians, and square dancing and
games were enjoyed.
The social conveners for the
event were Mrs. Frank Giffin,
and Mrs. Peter Connore
The new pledges present were
Mrs. Jim Russell, Mrs. Jim
Newby, Mrs. Peter Catioe, Mrs.
W. G. Balsdon and Mrs. Jim
Beer.
Tuesday night the chapter
met at the home of Mrs. Don
Webster when a program on
`Speech' was conducted by Mrs.
Webster and Mrs. Ed Clarkson.
The members did breathing
exercises and discussed the
proper pronunciation of
common words.
Women's Liberation was
debated with many pros and
cons being argued.
Mrs. Frank Giffin was
appointed as secretary to fill the
position of Mrs. Robert Pooley
who has transferred to a
member-at-large.
Xi GAMMA NU
Roy Stephenson, who toured
around the world last year and is
now a teacher at South Huron
District High School, gave the
highlights of his impressions of
south-east Asia and his travels
through Singapore, Malaya,
Thialand, Cambodia to Xi
Gamin Nu members, Tuesday
evening, Mr. Stephenson who
said he travelled 'fourth class'
recounted his varied experiences
as he hitch hiked and cycled
much of the way through the
countries.
The meeting was held at the
home of Mrs. Ron Bogart who
was assisted by Mrs. Bill Essery
and Mrs. Ross Dobson.
Roll call was a personal good
grooming tip, and a Halloween
party was planned for October
23, at the residence of Mrs. Peter
Raymond.
November 3 is Mr. and Mrs. Eli
Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton
Prouty and Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Penhale.
Refreshments were served by
ladies of Caven Church.
Shapton.
Highlight of the evening was
the presentation of slides by
Mrs. Walter Bentley on her
summer trip in Europe which
included points of interest in
Holland, Germany, Switzerland,
Austria, Italy and Rome.
Mr. & Mrs. Cecil Squire,
Whalen, Mr. & Mrs. Richard
Lamond and Mrs. Gladys
Chittick of London entertained
their parents, Mr. & Mrs. Edgar
Squire, to a dinner at the Zurich
Hotel, Sunday and later at their
home, in honor of their 53rd
wedding anniversary. Mrs.
Chittick is visiting this week
with the Squires Sr.
MEDAL FOR SKATING
Nancy Underwood, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Underwood, Pryde Boulevard,
who last summer attended
Skating School in Galt and
attained her First Figure and Jr.
Bronze dance award, has
recently completed the Fall
Skating School. October 3, she
was successful in passing another
dance to give her a Jr. Bronze
medal.

Couple celebrate
50th anniversary
Mr, And Mrs, Frank Wilson of
Cambria Rd.goderich, celebrated
their 50th wedding apniversaiy,
September 26 at Carlow Rail
with 50 of their relatives and
friends,
Guests were present from
Southampton, Rowan, Port.
Carling in •Muskoka, 041114,
BroekVille, Montrose, and Flint,
Mich..
Among those present were
Mr, and Mrs, Charles Young of
Goderich who have celebrated
their 67th wedding Anniversary
and. Mr. and Mrs. Peter 'Young
• their 56,
Mr, and Mrs. Wilson have two
sons, jack of Blyth, Donald of
Exeter and one daughter, Ruby
of Belgrave, 14 grandchildren
.and four great-grandchildren all
of whom were present.
Mr. and Mrs, Wilson were
married at the home of the
bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
John - Young of Loyal,
September 29, 1920. Mrs.
Wilson's twin sister, Ruby was
bridesmaid on that occasion.
The best man of fifty years ago
was unable to be present.
Both are members of Victoria
St. United Church. Mrs. Wilson
is a member of the UCW and Mr.
Wilson a member of the Board
of Session.
Mr. Wilson, for a number of
years, was a member of the
.Colborne Township Council. He
was also a 50 year member and
past-member of Morning Star
Lodge, Carlow.
Sprinkle salt on your boiled
potatoes after you have thrown
the water away, shake vigorously
while still on the fire to dry
them out. They will be light and
fluffy!

A humorous poem was read
by Mrs. Wm. Rowcliffe.
Mrs. Ronald Merner of
Dashwood, was present with a
display of her craft work. She
gave a talk on how she makes
many interesting articles.
The President, Mrs. Harold
Patterson presided for the
business. A bazaar and tea will
be held at Huronview, November
4. Delegates, Mrs. Lloyd
Ballantyne and Mrs. Hugh Love,
were appointed to attend the
Huron County Rally at Centralia
College. The meeting closed with
a social half hour.
