Lucan Women's Institute entertained senior citizens of the Lucan District to a card party and tea at the Masonic Hall, Thursday. There were about 30 people present, some playing euchre, others bridge, while yet others watched, talked and enjoyed the company. When asked how often they would like to meet they unanimously indicated a desire to meet every week. Winners of the euchre were: ladies' high, Mrs. Cecil Neal; ladies' low, Mrs. Harold Ryan; Mrs. Gertrude Hennessy passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital, September 27, 1970. She was the former Gertrude Glavin, wife of the late Augustus Hennessy of 470 Cheapside Street, London. She is survived by six daughters and three sons: Sister M. Eunice, C.S.J. London, Sister Bernice, C.S.J. Maidstone, Sister St. Augustine, C.S.J. St. Marys, Mrs. Joseph (Philomena) Regan, Toronto, Cyril and James, London, Mrs. Benedict (Mary) Morrissey, London and Mrs. Clarence (Margaret) Young, Lucan. She is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Fred (Huberta) O'Brien and Mrs. Josephene men's high, J, B. M. Kelly; men's low, Mrs. Eldon Hodgson; lone hand, Mrs. Ellen Whelihan. Mrs. John Park won the door prize. It is hoped that other interests will be introduced to make the meetings more interesting to everybody. Mrs. Sheridan Revington arranged the card tables, Mrs. Ron Crozier and other members of the W.I. served tea and cookies. Irving Lodge No. 154 of the Masonic Order offered the use of their hall for this purpose, and Regan, of London and Mrs. Clara Gallivan of Calgary. The body rested at the John T. Donohue Funeral Home, London until Wednesday, then to St. Michael's Church for the funeral mass at 10 a.m. Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery, Biddulph Township. Pallbearers were six grandsons, Larry and Michael Regan, Joseph and Philip Morrissey, John Hennessy and Paul Young. Another grandson, Paul Regan assisted at the mass. Mrs. Hennessy was a resident of Clandeboye before moving to London, and has many relatives and friends in this district. Branch 540 had fine representation at the Royal Canadian Legion District A Convention at . Sarnia, with five delegates in attendance, four of whom brought their good ladies. It was a gala two .day affair with 500 veterans in attendance, It IA as a good Convention, nothing contentious was discussed. A brief rundown of the highlights will be forthcomi ig at the next general meeting. I might add tl e parade was really a sight to behold, after 25 years the old timers remembered how to square their shoulders and march with a spring in their step to the swirl of the four pipe bands in attendance, and the Act of Remembrance at the Cenotaph was a most impressive ceremony. Sure met a lot of my old Legion buddies and made a lot of new. The Spring Convention will be held in London, a lot closer to home and a possible incentive for many more of the Lucan Comrades to attend. Incidentally there are still a few bus tickets left for the trip to the October Fest in Waterloo. If you plan to attend be sure to get in touch with Comrade Jock Holland or Carl Stuckless 'the quicker the better' to avoid disappointment. I understand the local stores did a bang up business in the sale of Epsom Salts last week 'not for the old fashioned remedy for what ails you, that you may be thinking about,' but for soaking tired aching feet. Yes Sir the boys did pretty good in the Ilderton to Lucan walkathon in aid of the Lucan Junior 'D' hockey team.
