home from St. Joseph's
Hospital, London.
The name of Mrs. V. L.
Becker was missed for attending
the LWML Convention at
Clarkson. Her daughter Iris of
Toronto spent the day there
with her.
The South Huron Jr. Panthers
retained their unbeaten record in
Huron-Perth Conference play
with a convincing 48.0 win over
St. Marys in the Perth County
town, Thursday afternoon.
It was the second straight win
for coach Doug Ellison's crew.
The two South Huron clubs
were in action yesterday,
Wednesday on their home field
against Goderich.
Against St. Marys, the
Panthers started slowly scoring
six points in the first quarter and
then jumped ahead 28.0 by the
end of the first half.
In the third quarter the locals
scored another six points and
added a total of 14 points in the
final period.
Dave Cyr and Gerard
Charrette were the big scoring
guns for South Huron, each
counting a pair of touchdowns.
Cyr scored his majors on runs
of 24 and seven yards. Charrette
galloped 71 yards on a pass and
run play from quarterback Perry
Stover for his first score and
went another 30 yards on his
second touchdown on a similar
pass and run call.
Stover notched a single major
on a 38 yard sprint while Wayne
Regier found pay dirt on a gallop
of some 40 yards.
The final South Huron TD
came when Mike Miller broke
through to block a St. Marys
kick and Allan Knight recovered
the pigskin behind the goal-line.
Pete Kleinstiver kicked a pair
of converts for the winners while
victories
Pius Dietrich and Wayne Regier
each chalked up a two-point
conversion. Dietrich picked up
his two points from Stover while
Regier ran for his conversion
score.
Stover completed seven out
of 12 passes attempted good for
150 yards. The strong South
Huron offensive machine gained
slightly more than 300 yards
rushing.
Perry Stover was named the
best backfielder of the day while
the top lineman award for the
afternoon went to Allan Knight.
Local teacher
is top golfer
Bill Leney of Stratford and
Doug Ellison cl South Huron
District High c :hoot proved to
be the best gol.ers participating
in the HUron-Perth school
teachers golf tournament held at
the Oakwood golf course in
Grand Bend, Saturday.
Due to the rainy weather
only nine holes were .Completed.
LeOey fired a 38 to win the
public school division while
Ellison's score of 39 was best
amongst the secondary teachers.
South Huron's vice-principal
Morley Sanders finished in fifth
place with a 43 and C. K,
Lawton of the same school was
one stroke farther back at 44.
Prizes were presented by
John McCarroll, organizer of the
event and Robert Pickling of
Labatt Breweries.

the coming fall and winter months and asks residents of the area to
indicate what activities they would like to participate in.
To make this questionnaire effective, you are urged to list only
those activities in which you have a sincere interest. If enough interest

and you will be notified, in person or through subsequent

The Home Economics and
Health meeting of the Staffa
Women's Institute was held in
the Township Hall, September
30.
Mrs. Ed. Chappel presided
and opened the meeting with the
Institute Ode and Mary Stewart
Collect. Roll call was Ways to
relax and overcome tension, was
answered by twenty members.
A letter was read from the
Institute's adopted ' child. The
Institute members have been
asked to cater to the plowmen's
association, Saturday, and also
to have a booth on the grounds.
Final plans were made for this.
The Institute are entertaining
later this month and committees
are in charge of the evening.
The motto, Mother has as
much right to drive from the
back seat as Father has to cook
from the dining room table, was
given by Mrs. John Temp leman.
Mrs. Ross Smale presided for
the program and introduced the
guest speaker, Mrs. M.
Humphreys, Mitchell who gave a
interesting talk on nutrition and
diets. Mrs. Robert McCaughey
delighted everyone with a piano
instrumental.
Mrs. Bill Binning gave a
demonstration on the proper
way of applying and using
cosmetics. She used as her
model, Mrs. A. H. Daynard.
Courtesy remarks were given
by Mrs. Ross Smale, and lunch
was served by Mrs. Carter
Kerslake and Mrs. Ed Chappel.

Churchman, Toronto, assisted
the Rector Rev. Rokeby-Thomas
by reading the lessons. The choir
rendered an anthem, solo part
taken by Terri Paul.
