Animals, from the Keith Coates farm, RR 1 Centralia swept eight red ribbons in the Hereford cattle division while others making good showings in other classes were J. T, Van Egmond and Alex Ostrom of Clinton and Adam Flowers, Bayfield. Taking a total of five first prizes in dairy classes were Holsteins entered by Mrs. Lorne Hem, Woodham. Ross Cottle of Kirkton again "hogged" the swine competitions with a sweep of an even dozen red ribbons. The three sheep divisions were led by fair president Donald Dearing, Gerald Dearing and J. A. Kelly, RR 2 Elora. Another exhibitor at the fair, Mrs. John McCart of Southwold claimed 35 firsts in poultry with George Tiernan of Dashwood placing close behind with 21 top prizes. The best collection of pigeons was exhibited by Kevin Kipfer of Dashwood, Fred McClymont of Varna continued his domination in the fruits and vegetable sections taking 26 first prizes. Mrs. Thomas G. ilern placed second with eight red ribbons. Other local competitors with first prize entries were Mrs. Keith McLaren, John Kingma, Mrs, Harold Cudmore, Mrs. Inez Dickey, Mrs. Mary Gingerich and Bethel Reformed Church, Most of the top awards for rabbits were taken by Ralph MacLean, RR 1 St. Marys. Local breeders taking prizes were Bob Brand, Jim Darling, Louis Masnica, Leslie Cudmore, Jim Donaldson and Angus Murray. Mr. & Mrs. James Burns — newlyweds, are residing at the Mac Melville residence. Mr. & Mrs. Donald Hill and family of Grand Bend have rented Mrs. Elsie Romphf's house. Mr. Hill is a fisherman at Grand Bend with Bruce Tiedeman. Mr. & Mrs. Mervin Pym and John Prance accompanied by Mr. & Mrs. Harold Prance attended the 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. & Mrs. Steve Pym, Petrolia, Wednesday. Visitors with Norman Vincent and family Sunday were, Mr. & Mrs. Ken Graves and son Gary, Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Gotelaer Jr. and sons of Ridgetown, and Mr. & Mrs. Harold Prance. Mrs. Bill Vandenberk, president of the CWL, Grand Bend, attended the bazaar at Parkhill United Church Parish Hall, Saturday for the Arthritic and Rheumatic Society. Joe Adams was at Delaware, Saturday. Mr. & Mrs. Bill Hall and Mr. & Mrs. Don Pascoe were at Manitoulin and Sault Ste Marie, recently. The first CWL meeting was held in Mount Carmel School last Tuesday evening. The president, Mrs. Wm. Muller was in charge of the meeting. Plans were discussed about the annual October bazaar and Penny Sale to be held October 23 and a Parish Party in November. Lunch was served by the ladies of St. Peter's Church. PERSONALS Mr. & Mrs. John Gillespie, Toronto spent the weekend with the latter's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Wm. McCann. Mrs. Winnie Dignan returned home to London last Saturday after visiting with Bernie Madden. Mrs. Frank Trainor and Cheryl attended the London Teachers' College graduation ceremony held in Centennial Hall last Saturday. Miss Wendy Trainor was among the graduates receiving certificates. Miss Clare Glavin has been visiting with cousins in St. Marys while Miss Madeleine Glavin was away for the past week on a holiday. Mr. & Mrs. Pat Sullivan spent the weekend visiting family and friends in London, Dutton and West Lorne. The 4-H club rings were a hive of activity at Exeter Fair Saturday afternoon with many district youngsters taking part in the various competitions. The South Huron swine club was active for the first time im close to twenty years. Taking the top prizes were Bob Heywood, R. R. 3, Exeter, Wayne Riddell, R. R. 1, Hay and Gregory Love, R: R. 1, Zurich. In' Exeter calf club competitions, a couple of girls showedthe best finished calves. Animals owned by Beth Passmore and Linda Hem were judged best in finish in the beef and dairy classes repectively. Les Coleman was the top showman in the beef division with the same honor in the dairy class going to Allan Hem who also had the second best finished calf. By MRS. Mr. & Mrs. Orville Davies and boys, Guelph, Mr. & Mrs. Ray Mills, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Blair, Bonnie, Faye and Robin, Centralia, were Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. McLeod Mills. Mr. & Mrs. E. Ferguson visited Saturday with Mrs. Austin Gowan and Murray, Thomdale. Mr. & Mrs. Reg Hodgert and family, Thames Road, Mr. & Mrs. Jas Bettridge and Jeffrey, St. Marys were Sunday guests of Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Johnson. Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Hodgins attended Teeswater Fair, Saturday. Mr. & Mrs. Cleve Pullman visited Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Harold Quast and Mr. & Mrs. Geo Pullman, Mitchell. A Massey family gathering was held Sunday at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Grafton Squire to honor the birthday of their father, Mr. John Massey, St. Marys. Visitors during the weekend with Mr. & Mrs, Ross Duffield were: Mr. & Mrs. Andy Lan ton, London; Mr. & Mrs. John Marshall and family, St. Marys and Lewis Levy, Nissouri Township. Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Hodgins and Laurie Ann were Sunday dinner guests of Mr, & Mrs. Allen Hodgins. If you want to know something, says the old Chinese proverb, ask the young, for they know everything Bob Kinsman was runner-up beef showman while Ken Jones was in a similar position in the dairy division. Barry Miller's calf was runner-up un the beef finish section. Ralph Geiger of Zurich took top awards in the corn and bean divisions of the 4-H multi-project club competition. Following close behind in the corn section were D'Arcy, Debbie, Rick and Dwight Etherington, all of R. R. 1, Hensall. Runners-up in the bean section were Ken Jones, R. R. 1, Hensall and Brian Miller, R. R. 3, Exeter. Special awards in the multi-project club went to Ken Jones, Beth Passmore and D'Arcy Etherington. Sheila Hem, R. R: 1, Woodham, Ken Jones and D'Arcy Etherington finished in one-two-three order in the forage division while sweet corn awards were taken by Beth Passmore, David Marshall, R. R. 2, Kirkton and Marlene Stewart, R. R. 1, Kirkton„ Jim Cornish, R. R. 1, Woodham and Barry Miller.
