Greys win district Si crown,
one game down to Neustadt
While we hope the weather stays warm for quite
awhile yet plans are going ahead for the coming hockey
season.
The western grouping of the Ontario Hockey
Association junior "D" series is pretty well set and a
meeting is being held shortly to draw up the schedule.
The Shamrock minor groupings are ready to go
with novice, pee wee, bantam and midget teams from
Exeter ready to go, sponsored by the Exeter Minor
Hockey Association.
Speaking of the EMHA, Harvey Pfaff, the local
postmaster has taken over the president's post replacing.
Derry Boyle who has held the position for more years
than he cares to remember.
- We know that everyone connected with minor
hockey over the years would join with us in thanking
Derry for his time and effort in keeping the minor
hockey program going.
For the past couple of years Derry has threatened
to relinquish the post but always was on the job when
nobody else could be found. At the same time we are
sure the new president will do more than an able chore.
He has already been at several Shamrock meetings and
shows plenty of enthusiasm.
The district junior "D" league. should provide
plenty of exciting hockey this winter with at least two
new teams in the fold. At a weekend meeting entries
from Clinton and Tavistock were filed to go along with
holdover teams from Exeter, Lucan, Mitchell, Zurich,
Lambeth and Belmont.
We have heard rumours lately that the Zurich
club would not be back but the latest word has a
combined entry from Zurich and Ihnsall ready to go.
The Exeter Hawks should again come up with a
strong club with most of last year's regulars expected to
be back. Captain Barry Baynham is currently with the
Brantford Junior "A" club and speedy Randy Parsons is
with Milton, a junior "B" team. Both are expected to
stick in the higher company.
Irish walk
Some of the prospective members of this year's
Lucan Irish junior hockey club got in some early
conditioning Sunday by taking part in the club's annual
walka th on .
This year the walk was a 13-mile jaunt from
Ilderton to Lucan. The young hockey players were
joined by members of the executive and quite a few
eager youngsters and more than $1,000 was raised to
support the team in the comina
°
season.
Lucan Legion president Jack Elson joined in with
ex-Lion president Bob Taylor, Irish team president Tom
England, manager Jim Freeman, coach Bill Neil and Bob
Anderson.
The club held their first practice at the Huron
Park arena Monday night with more than 35 prospects
out on the ice. The voice of the Irish Claire Stanley tells
us the team will hold another workout also at Huron
Park Monday night again at nine o'clock and any boys
wishing to try out will be more than welcome.
Golf tourney
A last minute reminder to any, elementary or
secondary school teachers in the area that Saturday is
the day for the Huron-Perth teachers golf tournament at
the Oakwood golf course in Grand Bencl..,,
A large trophy donated by Labatt's will go to the
best golfer of the day with various other prizes.
A goodly number of teachers from South Huron
District High School have entered the competition
including principal Joe Wooden. Others expected to
take part are Morley Sanders, Doug Ellison, Bruce Shaw,
Bill Johnston, C. K. Lawton, Trudy Stover and Heather
Hartford.

Attention, boys
Any boys in the immediate area of Huron Park
including Centralia and Crediton wishing to play bantam
hockey this coming season with the Huron Park Minor
Hockey Association are asked to make their intentions
known as soon as possible.
Boys may contact Bob Nadon at 298 Algonquin
Drive, Huron Park or call Don Ross at 228-6886.
JUNIOR GRIDDERS IN ACTION — The South Huron junior

lost a couple of close contests.
In a doubleheader at South
Huron District High School's
athletic field Thursday
afternoon, the local school split
a doubleheader with Wingham.
The local juniors trounced
Wingham 40.6 while the senior

The South Huron juniors are
back in action this afternoon,
Thursday when they travel to St.
Marys for a single game.
Start early
Against Wingham, the South
Huron. juniors started quickly
and scored three touchdowns in
the first quarter of play to take a
commanding lead.
Dave Cyr scored the first two
touchdowns. His first score was
on a plunge of only two yards
but his second was on a fullback
sweep that took him one
hundred and two yards for the
major score.
Cyr added two points on his
second touchdown when he
went off tackle for the
conversion. Quarterback Perry
Stover completed a three-yard
dive play for the third South
Huron major of the first period.
Wingham scored their only
points of the game late in the
quarter, an unconverted
touchdown.
In the second session Gerard
Charrette took a slant pass from
Stover and went 80 yards for
another touchdown. Late in the
first half Wayne Regier hit
paydirt on a five yard play and
Cyr again got two points on an
off-tackle run for the convert.
The only scoring of the
second half was a one yard
plunge by quarterback Perry
Stover.
Dave Cyr was named the best
South Huron back on the
strength of 161 yards in only
eight carries. Wayne Regier
gained 80 yards and Perry Stover
picked up 64 along the ground.
Ron Clarke was selected as
the best lineman. Intercepting
passes for South Huron were
Gord Pryde, Gerald Weido and
Stover.
More yards
In the senior game against St.
Marys, the Panthers gained more
yards than their opposition but
were unable to get much of a
scoring threat going.
The Panthers picked up a
total of 220 yards as compared
to 124 for St. Marys.
Quarterback Murray Glanville
scored the only South Huron
touchdown on a two yard run in
the fourth quarter after St.
Marys had scored a converted
major in the third period.
Defences stout
The defensive units for both
clubs turned in outstanding
performances as Wingham edged
the South Huron seniors 7-6,
Thursday.
Both teams scored an

first inning and a six run rally in

sew up the title.
Larry Haugh walked, moved

scored on Al MacLean's single
for the first Hawk counter.
Singles by Larry Haugh, Al
MacLean, Lorne Haugh and Ron
Ferguson along with Bill
Farquhar's triple and Greg
Revington's round tripper were
mainly responsible for the big

Singles by Ferguson and Isaac

and scored on Greg Revington's
triple. The Hawk hurler scored
on a sacrifice fly by his brother

The final two Hawk scores

consecutive walks and a sacrifice
fly.
The only Kinsmen to hit
