As well as local weekly news items, this issue contains special advertising and items of interest to all persons intending on visiting the fair, These extra pages are intended to give readers an insight into the many displays and exhibits that will be a part of the 116th presentation of the Exeter Fall Fair. Sponsored by the Exeter Agricultural Society, this year's show will again feature many of the events that are a tradition at fall fairs, plus some interesting added attractions, designed to fulfill the interest of all fairgoeri. The following index will show readers where articles listing the highlights of the Fair can be found on the inside pages of this issue. Interest in harness racing in this area has recently been revived. Visitors to the Fair Saturday afternoon will have their chance to see four heats of top notch racing . 17 This year five Fair patrons will have a chance to stock their home freezers with one of the meat prizes being offered in the lucky draw sponsored by the local Agricultural Society 17 Everybody welcome * The president of the Exeter Agricultural Society, Donald Dearing extends a cordial welcome to attend the fair and enjoy all the fun 18 Field crops were judged recently and will be on display in the arena . , 19 In the 4.1-I section, a swine club will be in competition for the first time in close to twenty years 18 The Fair gets Underway Friday night with one of the most popular events, the baby show, Judging starts at 7130, so come early and get a good front row seat 20 Another highlight of the Friday evening Pair activities is the ever popular Queen of the Pair contest: Last year's Queen Patti Glenn will be on hand to crown the winner 11 STEP RIGHT UP, FOLKS! IT'S FAIR TIME AGAIN it• It's Exeter Fall Fair time again and the directors have come up with some new features designed to satisfy the wants of all ages. For the second consecutive year, the Fair will be held on Friday and Saturday taking advantage of the opportunity of obtaining the services of top notch bands on the weekend Three bands will again be on hand to lead the parade down the Main Street of 'Exeter early Saturday afternoon. The highly regarded Brigden Klltie Band will be on parade along with the St. Marys marching band and the popular pipe band from the Exeter Legion. Things get underway Friday night when Exeter Mayor Jack Delbridge will handle the honors of officially opening the fair. The opening by the mayor will be followed by the always popular baby show and according to secretary Garnet Hicks the amount of entries could near the record mark. There will be three divisions in the baby show and mothers who haven't entered their son or daughter and wish to do so should get in touch with Mr. Hicks as soon as possible. Entries will close at Friday noon or sooner if the classes are filled. Any late entries on Friday may be called in to 235-2833. At about the same time as the babies are being judged entries in the heavy horse show will be judged in front of the grandstand. This is the first time the horse show is being held on the Friday night. Senior horse games will follow the horse show, also on the track and infield. The always popular beauty contest will also be held Friday night in the arena following the baby contest. This event is being held for the fifth time in conjunction with the fair and has been a tremendous success right from the outset. Chairman Carf Cann reports he has a goodly number of girls entered. The winner will receive a Bulova watch donated by Exeter jeweller Earl Campbell. Each contestant will receive a prize regardless of the result of the judging. The second queen to be crowned Friday night is the Fair's baking champion. The judges usually have a difficult chore in selecting a winner after sampling most of the delicious entries. Visitors to the fair Friday night will be entertained by top notch performers from the immediate area. Performing during the baby show and beauty contest will be local accordion specialist Vincent Glaab, who was the winner of the instrumental class at this year's Kirk ton Garden Party. Joining the young accordionist will be Ken and Grant Jones with their popular musical numbers along with the dancing Monk ton Marionettes. The indoor exhibits at the fair will be on display Friday night as well as Saturday. Also on display will be the usual lineup of booths showing the merchandise of local merchants complete with the popular candy booth of the Exeter Home and School Association, The Exeter Kinsmen club has decided not to hold their annual car show this year so the Fair Board is pleased to have numerous Exeter and district automobile dealers show their latest models. • Saturday's parade gets underway at one o'clock sharp at Snell's Garage with the youngsters on their decorated bicycles and trikes joining the march at Cann's Milk Provincial treasurer, the Hon. C. S. MacNaughton, Huron MP Robert McKinley, Stephen Reeve James Hayter and a representative from Usborne Township are expected to join Mayor De/bridge in a brief program in front of the grandstand. A new attraction this year is the addition ,of harness racing to the Saturday afternoon program. Two races of two one-mile heats will be raced off. The Whitesell starting gate will be in operation to get the horses off and running in a proper fashion. The Middlesex pony pulling clubs will also be in action throughout the afternoon. To add a little extra to the 4-H activities, the South Huron 4-H swine club will be exhibiting at the fair for the first time in close to twenty years.
