To make McKillop decision
at next school board meet
decision about the fate of the
schools is reached.
Huron County Board of
Education decided Monday
evening in Clinton to make its
decision regarding the McKillop
schools at the next regular
meeting, Tuesday, September 8.
Any McKillop ratepayers who
wish to present their case to the
Activities of the Exeter Greys
for the balance of the season will
be in the "B" division of the
Huron Ladies softball league.
The local girls softball club
after losing the first two games
of the semi-final series to
Shakespeare by large scores
forfeited the third game of the
series set for Friday night. A
shortage of players for the
balance of the week was the
reason given by manager Jim
Newby for cancellation of
Friday's game,
The Greys lost to
Shakespeare by scores of 24-8
and 27-6. In a sudden-death
game last week to decide the
final league standings the Greys
lost 9-7 to Mitchell.
The Exeter club will meet the
loser of the Brucefield-Mitchell
series in the "B" division.
Brucefield is in the lead at the
moment.
Score every inning
The Shakespeare girls scored
at least one run in every inning
in posting Tuesday's 24-8 win
over the Greys. Their big rally
came in the first when they
scored eight times.
Exeter's first run came in the
first inning when Joan Campbell
walked and scored on Ann
Jorgensen's triple. Two more
runs came across the plate in the
sixth on singles by Sheila Willert,
Lynne Farquhar and Patti
Robinson.
In the eighth, Lynne
Farquhar, Joan Campbell, Jayne
Broderick and Glenda Fisher
crossed the plate for the Greys
while Farquhar scored her third
run of the night in the ninth.
Miss one frame
In the first game 27.6 win,
Shakespeare scored in every
inning but the third while the
Greys were able to count in four
of the nine innings.
Sheila Willert and Lynne
Farquhar scored for Exeter in
the fifth frame while Glenda
Fisher and Marlene Parsons
tallied in the sixth after drawing
bases on balls.

school board at that meeting may
do so, the board members also
decided. At least two groups in
McKillop, those interested in an
addition to the Seaforth Public
School and those opposed to it,
will be notified of the upcoming
meeting. A notice will also be
published in the Seaforth
newspaper announcing the
September date.
The board has met with
McKillop residents on two other
occasions, once to present a
board proposal for closing the
one-room schools in the
township, and once to hear the
opinions of two delegations with
differing viewpoints on the
solution to the present McKillop
school system.
John D. Cochrane, director of
education for Huron County,
pointed out that it is abundantly
clear that the majority of
ratepayers in McKillop are in
favor of closing down the
one-room schools.
The board agreed it was up to
the school board to investigate
the whole situation and decide on
the best possible solution.
At Monday evening's meeting,
the board looked at the possible
alternatives for McKillop
students, but no decision will be
made until the September
meeting.
Board members also agreed
that only necessary maintenance
be carried out in the McKillop
schools until the issue is settled.
Some board members felt that
any contracts that may be
awarded for painting the interior
of McKillop schools, should be
held in abeyance until a final

While the Dashwood club
were unable to dent the
scoreboard they did threaten on
three occasions against the
offerings of winning hurler Don
Bell,
Frank Boyle opened the first
inning with a bunt single and
moved around to third but was
unable to complete the trip
around. In the third Carl Butson
doubled, moved to second on
Martin Bower's single and to
third when Frank Boyle drew a
walk.
Again in the third the leadoff
batter, Don Cooper singled and
went to third but couldn't score.
Barry Baynham led the
Hawks 12-hit assault in Crediton
Monday night as his club was
victorious by a score of 11-4.
Baynham singled on his first
four trips to the plate and was
nipped at first on a bunt attempt
in his fifth try in the seventh
inning.
Paul Mason and Baynham
singled in the first inning when
the Hawks scored four times.
Bill Farquhar, playing coach
Lorne Haugh and Baynham
singled in the second inning
when four more runs came
across for the winners.
Bill Farquhar got on by way
of an error in the third and
scored on Baynham's third single
of the night, Bill Bourne's single
in the fifth sent Baynham home
with the tenth Hawk run and
Larry Haugh singled in the
seventh and scored on Bill
Farquhar's one base blast.
Murray Hodge reached first
on an error in the second inning
and scored the first Crediton run
when Jim Finkbeiner singled.
Singles by Doug Finkbeiner,
Joe Regier and Brian Hodgins
powered a two run Crediton
rally in the third and Doug
Finkbeiner's triple in the fourth
sent Jim Finkbeiner home with
the final tally for the losers.
Greg Revington was the
pitching winner for the Hawks
and Gord Slaght took the loss
for Crediton.
The Hawks scored six times
in the first inning of the first
game of the series and had little
trouble in posting a 16-0 win.
Greg Revington tripled in the
big first inning uprising and Pete
Lawson homered in the second.
Revington went the distance on
the mound for the Hawks and
gave up only one hit a scratch
single to Jim Finkbeiner in the
fourth inning.

first inning when Brian Hosker
doubled and scored on Dave
Elston's single and another
marker in the second when
Gerry Parsons tripled to score
Dale Skinner.
Dashwood regained the lead
in the bottom of the fourth
when they scored four times
with Elston's single being the
only hit. The Kinsmen fought
back in the fourth with two runs
to cut the woodworkers lead to
6.5.
Jack Glover singled Walt
Tiedeman home and scored
himself on a couple of infield
outs. Bob Callingham and Don
Bell provided singles in the sixth
to go along with three walks to
score three Kinsmen runs.
Callingham singled again in
the seventh sending two more
of his mates across the plate.
Don Bell went all the way on
the Kinsmen mound to pick up
the pitching win while Dale
Skinner took the loss for
Dashwood.
Another home run, this time
from the bat of Craig Davidson
provided the momentum for the
Kinsmen to win the opening
game of the series by a score of
6-0.
• Davidson homered with one
out in the bottom of the fourth
with Bob Callingham and
George Pratt aboard. The first
Kinsmen score came in the first
inning when Callingham tripled
and scored on Pratt's sacrifice
fly to right field.
The same combination
started the Kinsmen scoring in
the fifth. Callingham walked,
Pratt singled and both rode
home on Jim Russell's double.

Dashwood
wins title
The Dashwood midgets won
the Western Ontario Athletic
Association midget "D"
championship by downing Zurich
in two straight playoff games.
Getting good pitching
performances from Brian Bestard
and Jim Guenther and fine hitting
support the Dashwood club won
by scores of 9-0 and 11-2.
In the first game of the
best-of-three series Bestard was in
top form striking out eighteen
Zurich batters in the seven inning
contest.
Jim Guenther stroked a hot
bat coming up with two doubles
and a single in four appearances at
the plate. Close behind in a
batting way was Randy Becker
with two singles and a walk in
four trips.
Don Oesch and John
Mommersteeg shared pitching
duties for the losing Zurich club.
In the second game Jim
Guenther starred both at the
plate and on the mound for
Dashwood. The chunky right
bander struck out eleven
opposition batters while walking
five. At the plate he contributed a
double and single in four trips.
Pete Kleinstiver was the top
Dashwood batter with two
doubles and single in four
appearances. Gary Hartman was
two-for-four with a single and
double.
Tim Decker was best at the
plate for Zurich with two singles
in four trips to the bat. Bill
Bedard and John Mommersteeg
were the Zurich pitchers.
